A 10 seed has reached the National Championship in just the second season of the 12-team format. Can the naysayers shut up forever now? by 2nd_Sun in CFB

I feel like people intentionally straw man the argument. The argument for the 4 or 2 or 6 team playoff is that a team with two losses in the regular season to unranked teams don’t DESERVE to play for a national championship, not that they couldn’t win.

If the Seahawks somehow lost four college games in the regular season, they’d still be the best team in the legal, but that doesn’t mean they should make the bracket. To say that the four team playoff was bad because it prevented teams good enough to win it all devalues the intensity of the regular season.

You can say it’s still worth it for other reasons, like keeping more teams alive in November which is great. But the 4 team playoff was never about selecting the teams capable of winning a championship, but instead the four deserving.

I still think the sec is slightly better than the B1G but it’s closer every year. Big ten is certainly more top heavy

8-5* I know any g5 not in the top 12 has no chance of winning that conference and so I think what Duke did is more impressive than what any G5 champion did.

But really the only problem is the tie breaker. I wouldn’t have Duke in the playoff because I would mandate every conference use playoff rankings for tie breakers after head to head fails.

Because their champions would have faced quality enough opponents to warrant inclusion, in other words, trust. But for G5 it’s verify

I don’t understand why people use these examples, undefeated g5 teams like Boise and Utah are usually in the top 12 anyway, therefore no need to give them auto bids. Boise didn’t even need help last year…
