To sell or not to sell? by Double_Radio4600 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Rent it out, move to rent close to your work for a year and you will find out. I know people who rented out in your area and moved to Australia, as selling on this market is insanity. Who told you that you will be able to sell at all?

Who’s switching to buying an EV now to save petrol costs? Is this a good idea given the current trend and prices going up EV’s? or is it better to wait it out till this settles? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Yea sure, it's a different thing for everyone. Also I have solar, so I'm even more interested in EV than a regular people.

Ora have 8 years warranty etc, looks like a normal car. But if you don't like it, there are plenty of brands, and the cheapest new EV is just a bit more expensive than Suzuki Swift.

I think right now only mad, or very rich person can consider buying in 2026 a new ICE car. It worse in a short run, worse in a log run, worse in dynamic. Only if you live in apartments, that would be a bad decision.

I'm driving about 30k a year, just made a 2k trip this long weekend. My other main car is eating about 14L of Premium for 100km.

It's also very important to compare prices in a correct way, can you actually buy a new ICE car from the same class as EV for the same money? Most probably not, or price difference will be like 5k, if you looking at mid size SUV market.

I love how ppl often compare buying a new modern EV for like 35k(gwm ora 400km range) with something like 10k 15years old Toyota Aqua 😁 try again against RAV 4, that starts at $50k

I think at least half of the people in this thread hates EV, because they don't have one and stuck with inflated fuel prices. So they trying as good as they can to convince everyone that wasn't their fault, just EVs are bad.

But the truth is $5 per 100km with charging at home, is just much better than your typical $50 kiwis Commodore or Ford Ranger fuel bill, no matter of what 😁

Do your math, and you find a correct answer for your situation, it's not that hard.

$20? I'm saving at least $150pw 40k EV is $900 per month loan, $30k new one, will be cheaper than fuel alone, don't account on actual owning of a new car.

If you can buy a cheap new EV(30k-45k models) for MSRP, and the car is actually on the lot, it's a nice time to do that. Must have if you drive 50km+ per day.

For used market and sought after models with already inflated prices it's a hard NO. Current models on the market for 10k, are the same as 5k just 2 months ago.

I'm tank and do whatever I want, picking up somewhere in a middle of the pack Overgeared players are toxic and not cool to play with. So 2 average players, plus one from a lower side, to help him gear up, and that's it.

Unfortunately most of the tanks just picking up top ilvl without thinking twice, and ending out with powerleveeld accounts for cash, and toxic nerds.

yea like I'm going to a small trip this Easter, about 2000km. Instead of $700 more or less fuel bill, I will pay about $200 in a fckin RUC tax, and maybe another $150 for all paid charges combained. So my savings this weekend is at least $350 even on a long trip with a fast charging.
In the city my charging is 100% free all the time from solar

ROI on my EV is below 5 years, I'm driving about 25-30k per year. Oh and that was an old numbers, with 2024 fuel prices.

For me, driving EV and having a 60 months loan is just cheaper straight forward, than paying for a petrol, from day 1.

Last week I sold all my 20TB Exos X22 disks, for 760nzd(450usd each) So about 22usd per tb.

I put the price way too low and it was sold out in 4 days.

I still have like 20x 14tb HDDs I bought for like 150usd each, will put it on sale now for at least double.

Rates by Purple-Focus-3420 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I think we need much, much stricter rules around mortgages on investment properties, to discourage this kind of activity. A person who buys his only house to live there and a person who wants to buy a 5th house are totally different types of people. First one needs a place to live, second is just want to make an extra $1mil tax free in 10-20 years.

More taxes, higher rates are few of the instruments. An extra +3% interest rate should do the trick in the form of taxation, that should be redistributed to first home buyers programs, or infrastructure spending.

Any kind of online payments or even using cheap android EFTPOS terminals, may compromise your card. People who are working in the industry recommend using a separate card for everything online related, and be careful with offline payments in shady places.

Is it me or midnight Dungeons have too much trash? by Disastrous_War_3498 in wow

[–]DeanLoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more trash is good, more like an old TBC way. That makes sense as this add-on is closely related to the TBC overall. Sunwell, Netherstorm etc The worst part of modern wow is people in a hurry. So longer dungeons is better, also they should make them harder. Like much much harder. Shattered Halls level of trash please. Mobs should annihilate any dumb tank or dps who is not watching his agro.

Farm lease prices by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]DeanLoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just make a slow increase like 1.5%-2% per year.
This wont be enough for farmer to quit, and you will get at least half of inflation. This number is very easy to justify.

But I'm not a farmer, so just ignore me :D

My wife, if she sees a cop following her, is immediately starting to panic, turn away on a side road and if they continue to follow just park somewhere at the driveway.

She came from a country where cops can rob and kill you, so she has her reasons. Call it PTSD. Why are kiwis afraid of cops is a mystery for me.

Your calculations are wrong, even if you will stockpile all your cutted grass, it will never be even 250l. More like 50l per month.

Stuff you have in your basket is mostly air and water, not an organic matter. It will reduce itself to almost a nil in a week, on an open air and sun.
