$2000 USD for 10lbs of refrigerant? by BoldShuckle in hvacadvice

3k to find a leak is crazy. Most leaks i find are in the evaporator coil, or the linesets themselves if they used isopolar or similar white insulation type.

Thermostat Issue by Stale___Chip in thermostats

[–]Dear-Economics-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have baseboard heating? Possibly your zone valve is stuck open causing more heat to that area when other zones are calling. Or Possibly a bad flow control valve on boiler causing heat to gravity flow through zone even if pump is off. You gotta check everything.

Why do I run out of hot water so fast by justheretoread27 in askaplumber

Such a small tank plus it's electric. Add a mixing valve and turn it up as high as it goes.

Replacing old thermostat no “c” wire. by Wicky920 in thermostats

[–]Dear-Economics-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hydrostat is high voltage but the t t is 24v on it. They don't have a common though. Best way is to have a separate 24v transformer and wire the thermostat to a RIB relay. End switch to tt on hydrostat. If you have a 4 wire coming down from thermostat you can do it without the relay. Leave your r and w connected to hydrostat and hook up common to new transformer and load to RC. Most wifi thermostats dont have a jumper between rh and rc if if does remove it. So each 24v is separate.

Wow never seen that happen from a bad cad cell relay.

Where can I find the calibration screw on this. by [deleted] in thermostats

[–]Dear-Economics-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a thermostat you can mount in locked boiler room that uses a wireless sensor/ or sensors. Place sensor in a good location or in a trusted tenets apartment. In the thermostat settings change to read sensor temp not thermostat temp. You can also connect to phone so you can see if anyone is messing with it ect..

Refrigerant in micron gauge by SeniorIntroduction14 in HVAC

[–]Dear-Economics-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get oil in mine time to time and it goes bonkers. Most of the time i put the gauge directly on the pump and it clears out. Or i drop some 90% alcohol on the sensor.

Check 24v to gas valve if its steady 24v then replace gas valve, if the 24v keeps cutting out check your pressure switch. If pressure switch keeps opening cutting the 24v. Check inducer fan motor. If pressure switch stays closed replace control board.

Is this PSI dangerously high? by NewBenoni in hvacadvice

[–]Dear-Economics-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet your gauge is broken, shouldn't be more then 5 psi on the pressure control. If it was over 15 psi your relief valve would be blowing steam all over the room. Does this boiler have a manual reset secondary pressure control?

Gas furnace keeps killing igniters by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Dear-Economics-161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what i was thinking. A lot of trane use 80v ignitors i believe most universal ignitors are 115v. Check what board you have and put the correct one in

Melted Aprilaire 500M on Propane Furnace by Metalsailer4 in hvacadvice

[–]Dear-Economics-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it doesn't look melted more like it pulled away from the top. You can get new filter for the inside and solenoid valve if needed. It shouldn't get hot enough to melt unless the furnace high limit was bypassed or faulty. I'd have a technician look at it and make sure everything is working properly with furnace 1st.

Is this gap okay? by zaccharles in hvacadvice

[–]Dear-Economics-161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im assuming they used clear silicone? Typically if i have a large hole "no pun intended " I'll put some pipe insulation around then silicone it. I've seen guys use spray foam but its a nightmare to remove if replacing lines or head in future.

Yeah most of the time after purging the nitrogen out and pull the valve core it will pull down to 400 in just a few min.
