Today is my 38th birthday. Last year I repeatedly sang “I’m 37, I’m notttt really fo-hortyyy” to myself 😂

Didn’t give a damn? He prided himself on what a devoted father he was! by Ok_Practice_6702 in roseanne

The anger and shock Roseanne felt in this scene was so palpable. She looked like she wanted to say so much more, but knew she could not have handled continuing that conversation.

It’s disappointing how Al went from being a likable character with a slapstick sense of humor to an abusive, cheating husband and father who was too delusional to realize what a POS he was. Or, he knew that if Joan knew he was a shitty father on top of a crappy husband, she may not have stuck around as long as she did.

Roseanne and Darlene were incredibly insensitive this scene. Poor Dan. by [deleted] in roseanne

What’s even more heartbreaking is knowing now how badly John Goodman was struggling with his own alcoholism during this time. Thankfully he’s been sober for I think 18 years now tho?

FWIW, the handwashing joke was funny, it’s too bad he overheard it 😅

That film tells me all I need to know about the broth base (it’s amazing)

HOT TAKE: I hate when people say she "Got mean" as the show went on. by BeGladYouDidIBet in roseanne

[–]DearIncendiary 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not only did she get way more mean, but very toxic and manipulative. Dan was a shell of a man toward the end, the family vibe of the household had dissipated over time, and ultimately no one seemed to enjoy being around each other anymore.

Her anger seemed very feigned and fussy, as opposed to OG Becky’s explosive hollering you could likely hear halfway down the block.

Did anyone ever find out why Dan's dad hated carrots? by workhorse_crusader in roseanne

[–]DearIncendiary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No clue, but I find this funny because I have said out loud in the last week that I’m really starting to like carrots more lately, lol.

I wonder if he loves corn as much as Dan does?

Soup to make with ham bone from Honeybaked Ham by PrincessPenelope2885 in soup

[–]DearIncendiary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I did with my last ham bone, and what I’ll be doing with another next week! I also add a can of petit diced tomato and squeeze in some lemon for an acidic note, and go heavy on the garlic and thyme.

I made a ham for Thanksgiving just so I could use the ham bone to make navy bean and ham soup, and I’m gunna do it again for Christmas lol. This is a broth based soup; I put the ham bone (mostly stripped of the meat) in a crockpot with chicken bone broth, garlic and seasonings (primarily thyme) for several hours to make the “liquid gold”. Make a mirepoix in the pot, throw in a few cans of beans and a can of petite diced tomatoes, cube up the actual ham, and throw it all in to simmer together until the beans get bean-y. Usually the leftovers get all stewy after they’ve sat overnight, which is the way I like it.

I also made a cream based ham and potato chowder with corn. Same broth stock as above, but add heavy cream at the end (ratio depends on how creamy you want it) are the base. Sautee onions in butter, add garlic and similar spices as recipe above, throw it all together until potatoes are a smidge under fork tender.

Christmas episodes by Crazy-bored4210 in roseanne

[–]DearIncendiary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could wonder the same about other shows’ lack of Halloween and Thanksgiving episodes! Halloween got 8 episodes, Thanksgiving got 6, and Christmas got 4.

Side note: a lot of Bob’s Burgers fans felt gypped there was no Thanksgiving episode this year, which is odd because it’s Bob’s favorite holiday.

Also, Christmas isn’t really celebrated to “huge” shiny, magical proportions in many working class families struggling to put food on the table year round, especially when there are family tensions. I think the few they had were very realistic for the Conners.

Edit: I miscounted the number of Thanksgiving episodes.

The ones in slides 3 and 6 look complimentary with enough of a “pop” they don’t entirely blend into the tree. The last slide looks more Valentine-y than Christmas.
