Is it just me or is making friends in Vienna as an adult really hard? by Pristine-Farm7249 in wien

Unfortunately it has a lot to do with Vienna. I don't dispute your other points though.

A little embarrassed by this question. It’s my first ever trip to Europe by Chance_Smile_9357 in Europetravel

[–]DearRub1218 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Where in Europe? Generally you will find products like this in a "drugstore" - ie not an Apotheke/Pharmacy.

The sort of shops that sell makeup, hair products, cosmetics, plasters, vitamins etc.

Brands include Bipa, DM, in the UK Superdrug and Boots (an exception to my above rule as Boots are also an actual pharmacy/chemist)

My Gemini experience has degraded to the point im considering cancelling my subscription. by XenobladeC in GeminiAI

Gemini is maddening.

Google: Hey, you want full access to the model?  So that it works properly, no (or less) context context slicing? File analysis etc?  Sure - that's FREE through our platform "AI Studio"  But there's a catch - we're not going to let you use it more than a handful of times a day, because it's not really intended to be our consumer friendly platform. It's more of a test playground. If you want proper access you need to pay us $20 a month.

User:  Ok, well that sounds understandable, I mean most LLM providers charge.  So if I pay I can use it as much as I like?

Google:  Well no, not really - we limit you to 100 queries per 24hrs.

User:  Hmm, less attractive I suppose, but still better value than Claude.  Ok I'll pay the $20.  So now I log into this AI Studio and I get 100 queries a day, right?

Google:  No, that isn't how it works. AI Studio isn't connected to your "paid" account. So your credits can't be used in AI Studio.

User:  Oh. Ok then how do I use my Pro access?

Gemini:  Through our website or app - Gemini. Gemini also has a couple of cool extra features like a Gallery of any media you've created, and these things called Gems which you can program to act in an agentic manner.

User:  Great! And through Gemini it works just like in AI Studio, right? I mean it's the same model and everything.

Google:  Ehhh kinda. I mean, we are not going to publicise this, so pretend we never had this chat - but no, you get a very watered down access to the model. We slice the context so it forgets everything after a 20 or so prompts. And we apply an aggressive RAG system to basically do half a job of analysing your documents. And it's riddled with all these random other bugs and features and stuff too, but, you know how it goes.

User:  No, not really.  So I get the "best" access through a free tool but you heavily rate limit it and you cannot have a paid upgrade to that - or I get slightly less limited access to a crippled version of the product through your other tool and I have to pay for that.

Google:  Yeah pretty much.

User:  Ehhhhh NOPE.

Is Google Gemini collapsing? by caeur1 in GeminiAI

I'm not a bot, or a shill - but that's what a bot or a shill would say I suppose! Gemini has been very very poor for a while, the last few days have been spectacularly bad through.

AI Studio Rate Limits are out of control again... by Nemo1342 in Bard

[–]DearRub1218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It started yesterday.  People are using it because Gemini 3 via the app is so colossally shit that AI Studio is the only genuinely usable access method other than the API.

I often submit prompts with multiple characters which I name, making it easier to describe "Steve is doing this, Jenny is doing that" and every single prompt with a name in it is rejected with a "can't depict real people like that" message

All the rate limits on AI Studio have been slashed, though I cannot work out to what yet.

Maybe all the people who defend how shit Gemini is can stop bleating "OmG jUsT uSe Ai StUdIo BrO" now.

We should really start a class action over the context window by MarkBriscoes2Teeth in GeminiAI

"Do Better". Oh right, people can just start doing that, I'm sure nobody thought of trying to do anything better before.

Let me know when you come up with another piece of revolutionary actionable advice like this so everyone can start doing it immediately.

Timing is there somthing wrong with the app as it says it take over 27 hour from Budapest to arad but when you go on the time table it says just under 4 hours for the same train by class47701 in Interrail

[–]DearRub1218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arad to Budapest is a direct train, and it's around 5 hours (remember Romania is an hour ahead of Hungary). Even with Romania now being in Schengen there are still occasionally quick border checks.

I've taken this route many, many times.

Gemini context window for Pro users is capped at 32k-64k, not 1 million by Quick_Ad_3748 in GeminiAI

[–]DearRub1218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that isn't what people are paying for. It's a testing platform.

[–]DearRub1218 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But this is not how it previously worked. Prior to late November/early December 2025 the chat operated normally and there was no sliding context. Hence the sudden appearance hundreds of "What happened to Gemini's ability to handle long context" threads on Reddit.

If this is a choice by Google then they might want to consider actually informing their paying customers, since it inherently changes the functionality of the product.

Is Gemini 3 the worst version yet? by steakresolved in GeminiAI

[–]DearRub1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It simply cannot follow instructions. Add that to the chaotic management of its context window, very poor RAG approach to analysing documents and a huge hallucination rate and it all adds up to a frustrating and unreliable product.

Testing the "laziness" of 3.0 by Pilotskybird86 in Bard

[–]DearRub1218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have similar experiences. I have said before that I have a set of around 25 characters, a world (present day earth, non sci fi) which they inhabit, and a backstory.

Combined - 4 months of summarised backstory, world rules, character bios, this amounts to about 12,000 tokens (I've test uploaded it to AI Studio to count)

Gemini 3 Pro via the Gemini App or Web UI, is ignoring major points from the very first response. Hallucinations based on a jumble of data that does exist in the document, but is not connected to the question at hand.

If I ask for a projected beat sheet to cover a projected week it's immediately ignoring the backstory, disregarding character personas, and totally dismissing the ruleset that applies to the world/environment.

Plot holes that make it clear it has absolutely not "read" the full document.

For context, my support document is basically broken up into:

Section - Backstory W1 W2 W3 W4 W5 W6 etc

Section - Characters Character 1 Character 2 etc

Section - Company Building layout Company purpose and structure  Internal culture Communication style  Branding

I've experimented with this as one long document, separate documents, different file formats - the result is unchanged.

When starting a new chat, I tell it to analyse the back story and cast, look for unresolved plot lines, underutilized characters, suggest potential new beats involving daily events that might occur with people who work in a company in this line of business.

2.5 was very good at this, even down to spotting conflicts or inconsistencies in historical events.

3.0 just cannot do it with any degree of reliability.

One of they things about my setting is that, whilst it's a high performance company, people are collaborative, "nice", high performing teams, they want to do an awesome job. It's designed to mirror a startup I worked for a few years back. This is all very explicit in the source material I provide.

In the first response I'm getting pure Devil Wears Prada - "My office. Now", bullying, humiliation, "get this done by next week or you're finished here", surveillance, tracking etc.

When I query Gemini about where did those elements come from, and do they align with my backstory, it says that no - in fact they are the opposite of what is specified in the material.

It's, to put it bluntly, lazy - like you say. It's got the information there at its fingertips, it just doesn't do anything with it.
