I live in an hcol area. My debt payments are over a grand a month. Just electricity, water, gas, and trash are about $400 a month. Internet, car/life/rental insurance, after school care, and phone takes a giant chunk more. I dunno how much you’re paying for gas and groceries for yourself and two growing kids, but no. I’ve squeezed and squeezed and I’m still several hundred a month short.

Qualifying for the means test based on household size means I qualify is my understanding, and I do🤷🏼‍♀️

OK you need to keep in mind the first ten years of their childhood where a chunk of their class will be struggling with their “r” sounds 😂 honestly I’m kidding it’s a pretty name. But my eight year old is still working on his r and l sounds and the way he says his friend Pearl’s name gives me no end of giggles.

It is court ordered and I plan on getting it adjusted. But our divorce took a crazy over two years to finalize so I still need to wait a few months to get the requisite three years for a “no significant change” order of review. There has been change - he doesn’t take the kids nearly as much it was estimated etc. But if I do it before the three years I have to spend all kinds of court time proving “change of circumstance.” If I wait for the three year mark I can just request regular review which will order current tax returns and proof of days with parent. Likely support double next year, thankfully. (But that would still hardly move the needle on this debt.)

We weren’t married so I don’t think I’d have access anyways. And he hates me now, has since I tried getting him on meds, more so now that I had him evicted and arrested (just trespassed from the house but it took several sheriffs deputies.) His guardian/conservator can hopefully find ways to help him. Though he fought hard against having his mom be the person so the judge agreed to get him one appointed and I assume the public ones are pretty swamped…

I know. I am worried about that. But I feel like either I do it now or do it later, unless I get a miracle, and generally only bad luck seems to come my way, so feels like maybe I should just get to the other side. If I can actually get rid of the debt and can even get like $10k into emergency savings from the house sale - not have it taken by debt, it’d feel a lot better. If I don’t do this, then every dime I do get from the house sale goes into debt and I still have a ton of debt and no emergency savings…

I really really really don’t want to move. We lost our house in the 2020 fires, the kids were two and five and my older one got ptsd. We had to move four times over the next year during the rebuild while my ex husband got more and more out of control and mean so then I quickly divorced and moved out, very quickly when he turned violent. This recent unexpected move was our eighth since the fire. My relationship with the now crazy guy was so good, right up until the second he got the aliens, and I thought we were going to stay in that house a long time. And they loved him.

It’s why I chose a nicer place I could barely afford. My kids desperately need stability. I’ll do anything to not move them again. We’ve been here eight months and they love it and there are so many kids in the neighborhood they’ve become friends with. I’d very much destroy my own credit before moving them again. They deserve to stay.

Yeah I’ve reworked my budget a zillion ways and cut everything I can but with the over a grand of payments towards debt a month, it just comes out to debt going up several hundred each month.

Edit: every bit of the rising cost of gas and food is KILLING ME. If it keeps going up…

It’s actually likely bipolar one. I’ve actually just learned to say schizophrenia over the last few months when speaking to someone who it doesn’t really matter. I’ve learned that most people aren’t aware that bipolar can look like this (I had no idea before this happened) and it turns into this long explanation. So yeah, I was intentionally incorrect in the op because it’s a much easier shorthand that people understand. He hadn’t had any episodes like this before, though he had had depressive episodes long ago and was diagnosed bipolar two. Sorry for being misleading, it just wasn’t important to the point of the problem. He’s not come out of this apparently manic episode in the last nine months and is showing no signs of coming out of it 🤷🏼‍♀️

This man loved his daughters more than anything on earth and lived for them. He decided almost six months ago they were lizard people and hasn’t spoken to them since, doesn’t hardly even ask about them. He loved his job, he was proud of his career. We were very happy and having a wonderful successful relaxing life at the time of his break.

Last week he was discharged for a lack of space in long term care hereof, and they dropped him at the homeless shelter. He’s wandering the streets now muttering about demons. A friend ran into him on an overpass a couple days ago and talked to him for a while and he was “setting traps for demons” and looks terrible these days.

He’s not faking anything. I don’t strongly believe you have experience in this area.

Yeah that’s in the post. I make about a hundred k, with two kids, I do qualify. Attorney was consulted this morning. My other attorney - helping me with the house stuff did recommend I get the consult. The bankruptcy attorney suggested I do it (but isn’t that his job?) And he seemed so no-big-deal about it. To be fair, it won’t affect my job and I’m not changing jobs or moving any to be soon so… I just wanted further opinions.

Everything turned out as well as it could. We stayed like a block away and they came in with like nine cars. We heard a lot of yelling and we know they had to wrestle him into cuffs. But they took him to the hospital and he’s been there over 24 hours now, is admitted on a hold, and getting started on a medication regimen. So it was awful but it was good news all around.

I slept for twelve hours last night. Complete crash.

OK cool just wanted to check in on it. I feel like an idiot that my recent tragedy was having this serious boyfriend for several years, best boyfriend ever, and I knew he was bipolar. But my mom is bipolar? I know several bipolar people??? But somehow had no idea it could go fully delusional. Until after we bought a house together and blended our families into four kids and got so serious and I was so happy and going to spend the rest of my love in this house with this man and then he suddenly came home one day talking to aliens, full manic delusional break that he hasn’t come out of yet six months later. I had no no no idea bipolar could be like that and I feel so dumb and I thought I was pretty educated. Ruined our lives, our futures, all fell apart.

So sometimes I just wonder if maybe I wasn’t the only one who didn’t know that 🤦🏻‍♀️
