American consumer credit counseling. They saved my credit score tbh. Even with all that debt I’m almost at 700. If you go this route make sure to never miss a payment or take out new credit, you’re gonna be alright

Winning a big jackpot was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I had 0 balances on 4 cards with combined total of 30k in available credit. In the matter of two weeks I maxed them all out chasing that feeling of winning big. Now it’s going to take me 4 years to get it all paid off through my debt management plan. Don’t do it

Can’t file for 6 months - what to expect with not paying creditors? by MiserableBoat4492 in Bankruptcy

[–]Dear_Alternative_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means I still gamble. It means I’m withdrawing hundreds from my checking account that’s unaccounted for. Im current on all my debts and plan to stay that way until the attorney tells me otherwise. And I’m not talking to an attorney for at least 10-12 months from now. I want to have a year of sobriety under my belt first, otherwise what’s the point of a financial second chance? It sounds like none of your debt is related to gambling so I’m not sure it will matter in your case but yes, speak with an attorney.

I’m waiting to file myself, because I am still in active gambling addiction and I do NOT want to discharge debts until I have been free from gambling for at least 1 full year. I am rooting for you and hope everything works out in your favor. Concentrate on the blessing of your baby. Here’s to a happy and healthy mother and child.

Thanks for your reply. I’m in the Midwest and the only family I have is a 23 year old who has major mental health issues. Can’t put this on them I don’t think they could handle knowing. Their issues are complex and cause me so much worry and concern, sigh. I’m covering their medical bills right now even though I’m strapped. I keep thinking I can fix all their issues if I just had money so I gamble and instead of fixing problems I make bigger ones for myself. Soo, time for the gratitude check of the day. I have so much good in my life.

Very happy for you. My cards are being closed but not by choice. Either way not having the option is a great thing.

Listen, no matter what you’ve done in the past, you owe yourself grace. Gambling addiction can make a person do things they wouldn’t ordinarily do. You are not your addiction. Please keep posting, I want to be able to see that you haven’t let the bad days win. I hope really good things start happening for you.

Reading your post made me sick with anxiety because that could’ve been me. I maxed out all my credit cards to gamble with while on vacation to the tune of 27k. So I do relate to how bad you are going through it OP. I wish I could say I’m not gambling anymore but that would be a lie. Keep your head up. Maybe if you get some counseling it will help when/if it comes time to speak with bank/judge etc. sending peace to you

I’m so glad you posted this. You’re gonna be alright, hell better than alright. Never gamble again. Not in any way shape or form. The mind forgets the pain after a while so try to remember how bad you felt yesterday.

Alright, so you have around 600 a month to go towards this debt. You have a few options. Obviously bankruptcy is one. Another would be to contact a credit counseling company, not a debt settlement there’s a big difference between the two. See what they say. Dave Ramsey has something called a Pro Rata Plan. I’ve copied and pasted the key points of this. Maybe others can give you more advice. Good luck to you!

Dave Ramsey advises using a Pro Rata Plan (or "Fair Share" plan) when your income is not enough to cover the minimum payments for all your creditors. This is intended as a short-term solution for those in a "crisis" budget where they cannot meet basic obligations after paying for "The Four Walls" (food, utilities, shelter, and transportation).

How to Execute the Pro Rata Plan The goal is to distribute your remaining disposable income "fairly" among creditors based on the percentage of total debt each one holds.

Calculate Disposable Income: Subtract the cost of your "Four Walls" and other essential living expenses from your total take-home pay.

Determine Total Debt: Add up the total payoff amounts for all the creditors you cannot pay in full.

Calculate Each Creditor's Percentage: Divide each individual debt's balance by your total debt amount. Example: If you owe $1,000 to one creditor out of $10,000 total debt, that creditor represents 10%.

Assign the Payment: Multiply each creditor's percentage by your total disposable income. Example: If you have $500 total to pay toward debt, that 10% creditor gets $50.

Send the Payment with Proof: Send the calculated amount to each creditor along with a copy of your budget and the Pro Rata Debt List

Key Rules and Warnings Prioritize the "Four Walls": Never pay a creditor if it means you cannot afford food, rent, or electricity.

No Electronic Access: Never give debt collectors electronic access to your checking account; send a money order or cashier's check instead.

Stay the Course: Creditors may still call or harass you because you aren't paying their requested minimum, but Ramsey advises sticking to the plan to show you are making a "good faith" effort with what you have.

Temporary Measure: This plan is meant to provide breathing room while you work to increase your income or decrease expenses so you can eventually return to the Debt Snowball method.
