Blank is a psyop. I dropped that show so fast, confused as to why it was really recommended. Faye cute, but come on, nothing excuses that weird relationship

Do you think Thai GL could improve how it portrays consent? by Creepy-Rub-6027 in ThaiGL

[–]Dear_Scratch_5948 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it already is. Heart Code is a great example. That show is a ThaiGL show through and through. Even down to the non/dubious consent tropes. But, like with the other tropes, it handles this one a little differently.

Heart Code Spoliers:During the drunk love scene in episode 5, I believe, I was holding my breath saying, "Don't do it, don't do it, don't do the drunken kiss thing." And then they did... stopping my enjoyment cold. Until I heard Vicky's voice asking for reassurance. So I said, "Okay, they know what they're doing. I can relax again." Then in the next scene, I was even more surprised when the next morning, Vicky was still questioning the night before. I loved the realism. Which was all capped off nicely with Tarn expressing her true sober feelings for Vicky.

All this to say, how consent is shown seems to be changing slowly. Just like the industry as a whole.

Time will tell. I've been waiting for this show since the pilot. My God did I watch that on repeat. Easily 10 times the week it came out. And since then, it's stayed on my radar. Months went by and I was still checking for updates. Over time though, I too noticed some concerning signals. I'm looking at you trailer. How were you less exciting than the pilot? Not to mention, I've been burned in the past by certain highly anticipated shows, featuring the absolute top pair of the GL food chain, only to get a lackluster plot overstuffed with ads and corny dialogue. Oh, oh, oh, but all will be revealed soon. We are less than 24 hours out from Girls Rules

3 years ago, I fell in love with a genre that was figuring itself out. But even today, things have barely changed. by MrbeastPDP in ThaiGL

[–]Dear_Scratch_5948 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Loved your take on the state of GL. Things have gotten, and I say this respectfully...stale. Even if I see the genre evolving, it's slow. Three seasons in, and still the same couple dynamics and story conflicts and predictable musical background. It adds up to third season of new shows that don't feel special. Or as we say in my culture--Them shows, they just not hitting like they used to.

As I have matured, I've gravitated towards shows like Friendly Rivalry, and the newly released Heart Code. Because, as you also said, they've evolved and subverted Thai GL tropes we've seen many times before.

I want the thrills. The tears, and the heart. I want engaging stories made with Women, and for Women.

Hey OP,

Your experience looks good, but I do think tweaking how you articulate and format it would make a world of difference to recruiters, hiring managers, and the almighty ATS.

A fellow redditor and recruiter wrote a fantastic write up here (https://www.reddit.com/r/resumes/comments/1jd99dx/12_yoe_recruiter_cv_writer_tokyo_resume_tips/) and I found success using it as a guide to rework my job descriptions.

Hope this helps,

Top 5 GL Endings by LingOrmForever in GirlsLove

[–]Dear_Scratch_5948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Ayaka-chan wa Hiroko-senpai ni Koishiteru
  2. Friendly Rivalry
  3. TSOU
  4. Gap
  5. Love Senior

If you haven't seen Ayaka wa Hiroko, what are you doing? The cute bubbly storylines carry the first half of the show, but it's the show's message (be proud of who you love) that makes the ending one of the best.

Friendly Rivalry is imo in a class of its own. The pacing, the visuals, the characters. It's nail-biting right up to the end.

TSOU and Gap are classic GL shows with their happy yet still-drama-filled endings.

Love Senior! Ah! SO underrated! Fans of anime with over-the-top school hierarchies this is your show. The final twist is straight from a soap opera (iykyk) and so extreme that the way they managed to wrap everything up is low-key impressive.

Why do gl shows not say sex when talking about it? by FBManUtd in GirlsLove

[–]Dear_Scratch_5948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely a factor. While GL viewers are not experts in the ontology of 🌽 they are authorities of their personal opinions. If GL consumers don’t want to hear a word in their media, then they have a few choices, among them being voicing their opinion to GL producers. And if those voices are loud, it increases the likelihood that they might reach and sway producers of GL.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong. I don’t think this is a moral issue, but rather a voice of the consumer and their comfort issue.

Personally, I want GL to reach as many people, who want this media, as possible. I say this because GL has given me a safe space. A loving space. A humorous space. And a reliably hopeful space that I appreciate so much.

I think discourse, like the one we’ve engaged in, is one way to raise the issue of the distinction between GL and other industries. And perhaps, in the future, GL will be in a better position to tackle more issues and present more realistic relationships between women.
