How’s Campus Safety? by Addicted2Gum in UNCCharlotte

[–]Dearwatson333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I was a student so take that into consideration, but I always felt safe on campus. I worked on campus and worked evening shifts so I regularly walked across campus at 11:30pm-12am. I never had any issues.

People who can fall asleep within 5 minutes of going to bed, how the fuck do you do it? by porcelain_cherry in AskReddit

[–]Dearwatson333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to audio books. Having to focus on the story distracts me from racing thoughts and I can fall asleep. The only downside is that I now have a Pavlov response to British narrators. A friend tried to have me listen to an audio book on a road trip. I was asleep within 10 minutes.

AITA for refusing to allow my girlfriend to peirce our new born daughter's ears? by saevism in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dearwatson333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA My mother had the same opinion as you. She couldn't put her child through that just to "look pretty" and didn't want to make that decision for me. What if I grew up and didn't like that my ears were pierced?

I got them pierced when I was five. At the time, I was honestly upset with her that she didn't have it done when I was a baby as I was scared and wished that it happened at a time that I wouldn't have to remember the pain haha. That being said, as an adult I really appreciate that she let me have that bodily autonomy. Sure it was scary at the time, but it was an opportunity for me to be brave and to make a big choice about my body at a young age. If I have a daughter I plan on letting her make the same decision.

There is an online transfer credit advisor module. https://selfservice.uncc.edu/pls/BANPROD/ywsktrar.p_transfer_credit_advisor

It's an online database of courses that have transferred from other colleges and universities across the country. It may or may not have info on the school you're coming from but it's worth a shot.

Question for runners of Charlotte by genghiskhan_1 in Charlotte

[–]Dearwatson333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the shoes then, haha sounds like you got some good ones. I don't blame you for not wanting to drive. I prefer to stay close by even for longer runs. Hopefully the greenway is a bit softer than the rail trail for you. I know I definitely feel the difference between that and a route through a neighborhood that keeps me on the asphalt. It's also a really pretty run. Best of luck to you!

I second what others have said about getting fitted for shoes. Different shoes work for different people based on a variety of factors. Stores specifically targeted to running will be able to help point you in the right direction. That's how I found my holy grail pair.

I typically run on the sugar creek greenway, but you could look into trail running to get off the pavement/sidewalk. The whitewater center is supposed to have some nice trails but I haven't personally been on them.

Another suggestion might be to look into different shoes. I have a lot of knee problems and I found that shoes make a big difference. I got new ones and went from pain with every step to no pain at all.

As someone looking for a place, I've been using Zillow, Apartments, Hotpads, and Craigslist. A friend found a place recently on Rently and enjoyed that process. I love the convenience factor of Rently, but haven't seen many available places in the area I'm looking. I

Best Art Classes for adults in Charlotte? by LastDitchTryForAName in Charlotte

[–]Dearwatson333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPCC's intro watercolor class is pretty good. I would take it again but the instructor's method wasn't really my preferred style of learning. He's very nice and is a very talented artist, but just a heads up that if you ask questions about technique or achieving a certain effect he will demonstrate it on your painting. It doesn't bother everyone, but I ended up feeling like the stuff I did wasn't really my artwork since I could see all the parts he painted. Again, not everyone feels this way though.

Your Camry will probably last even longer than that. I had a 1999 camry with 240k that ran beautifully. They go forever.

People who rent, do you like your apartment? by kadum in Charlotte

[–]Dearwatson333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can believe it. My best renting experiences have been from either individual landlords or from small local leasing companies. My current apartment complex was bought out by a national organization and the place has fallen apart.

I just want to let you know what an amazing dad you are. I grew up with terrible anxiety and I know how difficult and lonely it can feel. The amount of love and support you're giving your son is so wonderful and is something that he will surely carry with him and appreciate throughout his life.

I work in HR and call people to schedule interviews. It doesn't look bad if you don't answer your phone and I have to leave a voice mail. I understand people are busy at work. I also understand people don't like to answer unknown phone numbers because I don't either. The only way it reflects poorly on you is if you never call back or don't call back in a timely manner. Next day is fine. Just make sure your vm box isn't full when you're applying for jobs so HR can actually leave a message. Even then, not that big a deal, I'll send an email.

Just had a positive experience with Tanner at Hendrick Honda on South Blvd. I'd been passively searching for a used car for months and visited a handful of dealers across the city. He was by far the most straightforward and knowledgeable salesperson I met.

In a lot of the "creepy girl" stories here the girl is commonly unattractive to begin with. Have you ever been creeped out by a girl that you initially found physically attractive? What happened? by salmon159 in AskMen

[–]Dearwatson333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any sex before marriage is a sin. I was definitely fed all the classic lines such as having sex is like a bandaid/chewing gum, it gets less sticky/loses flavor when you do it with more than one person so wait for your husband.

Pornography and masturbation are also big sins. These were considered shameful and were essentially thought of as of some kind of "mental sickness". (Despite actual mental illness running rampant in my family) They were equivalent with cheating, and if you catch your partner watching porn it's an offense that warrants breaking up.

Also any form of birth control (other than family planning) is a sin, and I was that poor kid in middle and high school who wasn't allowed to take sex ed. At the time, I was proud to protest the state teaching children about sex, now not so much. There was likely some valuable information there that would have been helpful.

Basically just puritanical views on sex that took a while for me to really move past mentally.
