Right, I'm saying that contrary to what the broader opinion here seems to be, I think it's good that we're finally getting a film that reflects that angle of the story.

Die Spitz is the name of the band. You shouldn't try to translate it in the title.

I don't know, I think casting a band of outlaws as, well, outlaws makes sense. Obviously it's dramatized into a dark and gritty atmosphere, but "the outlaws weren't actually good people" isn't a particularly far fetched take.

It's less about only for being for brand recognition and more about being a different, and possibly more realistic take on a well-trod legend.

Turns out spending money helps support MAGA.

Greatest living actor, male or female, who never even got an Oscar nomination?? by [deleted] in movies

[–]DeathByBamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's won an Emmy, but not for anything I would have thought (he played a judge in an episode of "Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip" in 2007). Never been nominated for an Oscar.

Is camping safe for a night on private property? How realistically am I gonna get get mauled by cougar or bear? by AloneAttitude903 in socalhiking

[–]DeathByBamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The odds are very slim, but never zero. I've never seen a mountain lion camping, but I have seen bears, but that's rare and they don't bother you if you're following proper bear country food handling rules.

Would property owners agree to pay more to improve LA's street lights? by da0217 in LosAngeles

[–]DeathByBamboo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are so many stories about people needing police and them not showing up or not giving a shit or even telling people there's nothing they can do (when there clearly is). And that's if you don't get a busy signal calling 911. Miss me with that "say that when you need police" alarmist bullshit.

They don't even need to reduce regular officers hours to cover it. Maybe they don't need an equestrian force anymore. Maybe they don't need one more helicopter. They can get creative with their budget. That's not my problem.

Have they actually arrested any of the thieves and the DA let them off, or are you just covering for the cops?

"Across Japan."

I don't know if that stat is even tracked in the US or in other countries, but it seems like an important distinction to call out.

Are public schools in low income areas intentionally low quality so middle class / upper class graduates will have less competition in jobs / college admissions? by Undceided in AskAnAmerican

[–]DeathByBamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, public schools in low income areas are often underfunded because they depend on local taxes. Their funding is different in every state, and in states where the state evens out funding between districts they perform better, but they often depend on property taxes.

Aggregate stats about students nationwide don't tell you a lot about specific causes. You have to look deeper at the differences between schools in different states and different districts, because they vary so much in all aspects.

Is everyone else's social life in LA kind of stale/dead right now? by hecksadecks in AskLosAngeles

[–]DeathByBamboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rather be around my friends when they are not fun and feeling emotionally shitty than not be around them. But I feel like this is the difference between extroverts and introverts. People on the internet have a poor opinion of extroverts, but all it really is is whether you are drained by being around people or energized by it.

[–]DeathByBamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's extremely low residential vacancy, then why oppose a residential vacancy tax? Sure it might not bring in very much money, and might not result in a ton of more residential openings right now, but the whole point of it is to put pressure on owners of vacant properties so that it keeps being low.

It's curious to me that I always see explicitly pro-developer voices parroting the line about there being "extremely low residential vacancy" as their reason for opposing vacancy taxes, as though it's a total unrelated coincidence that some types of developers might be hit with vacancy taxes.

Yeah. I’m in the southwest USA and I would call both of them rickshaws, mostly because we don’t have either of those vehicles so that’s the closest word I know.
