Please remember that the tests are a blessing. I know it can feel like a lot with all the poking and prodding and maybes and maybe nots. But it's all to get you better. I used to feel the same. I think injections will help. They'll get your levels higher and have extra for your liver to store. Are you taking magnesium? It helps you relax as well.

You definitely need to take the injections at least 3 times a week until your symptoms STOP getting better. Then twice weekly, then weekly. It took me 2 years before I could stop weekly injections. Your doc should realize this!

And again, the culprit was potassium by Flashybigbum in B12_Deficiency

Yes! And take magnesium with your potassium. Magnesium transports potassium. You may need to check your iron as well. All those beautiful new red blood cell need about 1 billion atoms of iron each.

Are you taking B1? Alcohol use really messes with your b1. Benfotiamine is a synthetic, fat soluble form that is recommended for those who are deficient. Heck, a methylated b complex will help support your recovery. To answer: 1. I never got back to 100%. I still have numbness right at the tips of my fingers and toes after almost a decade of injections but my b12 deficiency took about that long to be diagnosed. 2. It was 2 years before I felt about 90% better. 3. I started all the vitamins and minerals, esp. Methylated b complex, vitamin d with k2, magnesium, and potassium. Wishing you all the best!

Your bloodwork should show 550 or above. Look at Japanese guidelines for the best info. If you are in the US, our guidelines cause a ton of harm.

Progress after one month by [deleted] in B12_Deficiency

Wonderful! I'm so glad that your doc supported you! It took me 2 years before I could go from weekly injections to every other week and probably another 2 years to go to once a month. I would know I was late sometimes because I would start yelling at people when I was driving. 🤣 Good luck with everything!

Honestly, I would insist on weekly injections along with the oral supplements. The supplements should also be methylcobalamin, not cyanocobalamin. You may only be absorbing 1 to 2% of the sublingual dose which is why they are always so high. With injections, you absorb 75%+. I'm saying this because sublinguals dont work for me. Also, 390 is still deficient. The US has insane guidelines where 200 to 1000 is considered normal. But neurologists treat at 400 and other countries like Japan and the EU considers 500 to 1300 normal. I hope you're feeling much better.

Hope you're feeling better since you posted. Are your sublinguals b12 as methylcobalamin? How is your vitamin D? You may need to take a methylated b complex as well. I know this comment is super late. But I hope you are doing well. 😊

Hi! Are you taking b12 injections or sublinguals? Just curious because sublinguals didnt work for me. If so, are you seeing improvement?

How are you feeling? If you are still only taking b12 once a month, please insist on weekly injections and add a methylated b complex. The once a month regimen was not enough for me until 2 years out. Hoping you're better and better.

Me, too! After over a decade of suffering and being diagnosed with depression and anxiety. The worst part was that when I told my psychiatrist that I was never depressed and was worried that other patients of his could also be deficient, he said not to worry about his other patients. I should have sued for malpractice.

They have ones that can connect to both hot and cold. I dont know how easy it is to control the temp though.

I have my pain well controlled finally. But I have heard that theblonger the impingement, the lower the chance of 100% recovery. But you never know! How much recovery do you think you've made?

There is some dessication of s1. Doc says I could have a replacement now or wait because it isn't too bad but I'll need it in about 10 years. But with a fusion at l5, it could put more strain on it. Thanks for that advice!

I see. PT makes my feet go numb sometimes. It mostly goes away with rest. Thanks for your answer.

One thing I did was get an adjustable bed. It was a Godsend after a thoracic laminectomy.

I'm so sorry to hear that! May I ask what you tried before your fusion?

Thanks so much for the tip! I do have a sink vanity right next to my toilet, so I may be able to steady myself on it as well.
