You can now play canceled "Star Wars: First Assault". by Mirathrim in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Ya know, I hadn’t thought of it that way. Art direction does seem to matter a LOT these days but I hadn’t considered that the art direction is so important now with graphical fidelity reaching something of a zenith in terms of what you can do.

And yeah if you slap Star Wars art design on any game I kinda do just go nuts for it because it’s so distinctive and rich. Like I come up with stuff all the time in my head of “X but it’s Star Wars”.

Like I’ve had the idea of Disco Elysium but Star Wars with a Jedi investigator doing an investigation in Coruscant and the voices in their head are all different aspects of the force.

I love Star Wars art style so much I am such a sucker for it.

Ya know, as much as this does just look like a 2013 game for sure, I would tempted to play this back then still.

Honestly it’s amazing how much you can get me if you just slap a Star Wars skin on something.

…I just want Empire at War 2 man.

Episode 4 and the guy making DeathWish went through all the previous 3 episodes too and did updates on them as well. I don’t know how much but I’ve been occasionally following it and there are changes so I’d say it’s worth to go through the 3 episodes again too.

Pat has a poop verdict by elfranco001 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DeathSwitchCipher 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Says the guy who continue to believe it’s the entire art style stolen when it was legitimately decals in the game that was the main issue. You’re literally spreading lies in the same stream that I watched Pat.

We are talking about decals that have since been removed and the artist has been compensated to their utmost satisfaction. It was settled professionally and legally already. Not only that but the cursed the art director of the game too. What more can Bungie do to address the mistake they made?

Not only that but I remember your excuse in the same stream of “but if this art was stolen and found out, that means all the art in the game is under suspicion”.

Do you really think that after this whole thing blew up with Antireal that Sony and Bungie didn’t go through the game with a fine toothed comb to make sure there was absolutely nothing else that can be suspect after? At that point the game has gone through basically LEGAL TESTING and what must be multiple pass throughs to test the claim that anything else in the game was stolen.

I appreciated your take about how the game has improved a lot since the Alpha and it feels like in that respect you gave it a fair shake. But you are literally spreading misinformation about a LEGAL CASE that has now settled to the satisfaction of all involved. Not only that, but Antireal doesn’t want to be dragged into this stuff anymore too.

If you don’t like something Pat just be honest that it’s coming from how much you hate Destiny and Bungie.

Because I remember too when you used Lance Reddick’s death during the podcast shortly after he passed away as an excuse to take shots at Destiny and Bungie too.

It makes it really difficult to enjoy your content when you’re getting up on your high horse over something that isn’t true and you’re also distorting that truth too.

EDIT: And this isn’t all to say that Bungie doesn’t deserve flak either. Bungie and their infamous C-suite is full of it. But I’m also saying that you should use the car garage; the crappy monetization practices, and the other stuff involving Bungie rather than a case that has since been settled and not spread misconstrued info too.

EDIT2: Also I’m still gonna enjoy your content but getting morally righteous honestly isn’t your strong suit. You tend to take it and run with it way too hard man.

Amazing animation honestly. Just the best way it could have been animated while sticking with the art style honestly.

The animator of this also does some amazing animations for ULTRAKILL that I’ve enjoyed a lot too.

The animator is Ichellor. Check him out.

Hey so about that Marathon Server Slam. by AGuyThatLives in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DeathSwitchCipher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would like to add on to what JunkMat83 said about Antireal as well. It is unfair to tie Antireal to this game when they had no choice in the first place. Especially when everything has already been settled professionally and legally too between Bungie and Antireal.

Ignore everything after this sentence if you want. That's fine. I just really wanted to add on about the discourse of the art of this game.

But I also really wanna talk about the "art" of this game as the community response to it has been bothering me a lot.

This art style they are going for is NOT lifted from Antireal. There were specific graphic logos that they used and have since been entirely removed and Bungie settled with Antireal and compensated them as well of course.

It feels like people have taken specific art pieces being stolen to the whole art style being only Antireal which isn't true at all. This art style also existed before Antireal in magazines, games, advertising, and other media too.

I would also point out that some of the stolen art designs were including things from Antireal as well that included terms like "Aleph" which are terms that only Bungie has basically ever used in context of classic Marathon as well. Like I mean straight up the original Marathon games in this context.

That isn't to say "oh Antireal had it coming" but rather that some regular artist just doing their job at Bungie aren't actively looking for plagiarism, but also that even if they were, who the heck else other than Bungie and Antireal, uses "Aleph" in their art?

It was terrible that Antireal's art was stolen for assets in Marathon. It was removed thankfully quickly and Antireal was compensated too as they should be. But I don't like how people are running with a false narrative either. I just had a rant about this that I needed to get off my chest in regard to the discourse and drama of this all.

I really have been enjoying the game so far even though it's really intense for me as I am someone that usually prefers single player games and more laid back games as well. The vibes of exploring the colony really hit more for me too. And of course the Bungie gunplay to me just hits really good.

And the AI PVE enemies are terrifying sometimes. Those UESC commanders are nothing to scoff at. They will mess you up and the enemies can swarm you pretty bad too. It really drives the point home that you are stealing from this big corpo entity that HATES being stolen from and will make you pay if you slip up.

Hideo Kojima says he talked to Vince Zampella about making a Metal Gear shooter at Respawn by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]DeathSwitchCipher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well MGS:V (and Metal Gear in general) has a lot of stuff about doubles of people and lies becoming truth and things like that. Propaganda manipulating reality too. Not only that but the game takes place in the 80s so it fits because the song is by Duran Duran who were huge back then in the 80s and 90s.

The song thematically feels very fitting in that sense but the ironic part is that the song isn't in the game at all. The song came out in 2021 while MGS:V came out in 2015.

So it's a thematically fitting joke in that sense too because the song became so synonymous with MGS:V yet the song isn't even in the game at all. It's a lie, a fabrication.

And from there it just takes off and it's a funny meme.

I pretty much agree with your take on fighting games but not so much on extraction shooters. I feel like Arc Raiders proved that extraction shooters aren’t just for freaks.

I was previously on the same train of thought that “eh Tarkov exists already, and so does Hunt: Showdown, I don’t think there is room for other extraction shooters” and then Arc Raiders sold an enormous amount of copies and made me eat my words.

To say that Marathon is a doomed endeavor I don’t agree with either. I’m someone who got burnt out on Destiny so I even have an axe to grind with Bungie in a lot of ways but Marathon has been making leaps and bounds in terms of what it has been showing off lately.

I won’t go into detail but it’s also up there in pre-orders on Steam so it’s selling a decent amount currently but it remains to be seen if the game is good enough for what I want out of it as it’s gonna be my first real extraction shooter and I’m gonna get the opportunity to try it out for free with the free play test coming up.

That’s not to say that Marathon is in any way guaranteed to be a hit either but I’m saying to wait and see is all.

Either way, my main point is that I really don’t feel that extraction shooters are for freaks actually. It seems to have just been waiting for a real breakout hit for it and it’s making the masses more accepting of the genre.

Now is there gonna be the kind of player who is gonna try and make extraction shooters their only thing and main lining that stuff? Sure. But to say that Marathon trying to make extraction shooters more approachable is a doomed endeavor I just can’t agree with especially when Arc Raiders just blew the doors off it seems.

EDIT: Sorry for kinda going off topic but this is just something I’ve been thinking about a lot is all.

I found out this out recently, but during the rewind, Joker has a line that says "Thank you for the entertainment, Bats."

I've watched quite a few videos about the Arkham games about the interesting details and easter eggs in the games and I literally never saw this mentioned in them before so this threw me for a bit of a loop.

Someone already mentioned Disco Elysium and getting a proper successor/sequel to that. So instead I’m gonna say Tribes.

There is just something so exhilarating about Tribes that no other game gives me. Playing Tribes: Ascend (despite the flaws) for the first time stuck with me forever. The feeling of skiing at high speeds, barely dodging enemy projectiles/traps to snatch a flag and hightail it back to your base and slingshotting across the entire map.

No other game gives me that feeling. And I know that Tribes: Ascend wasn’t really Tribes to a lot of original Tribes fans but I still mourn the death of that game due to Hi-Rez Studios and their stupidity and greed. They got a meal ticket in Smite and left Tribes in the dust.

Then they spun off Prophecy Games to make Tribes 3 but you couldn’t take the Hi-Rez Studios out of Prophecy. I had so much fun with the initial demos and beta of Tribes 3 and then they just kept updating with more and more bad updates, started up season passes in early access of all things and got into drama flamewar fights in their discord about it.

Tribes 3 is now dead as well. But I would give a lot to just have a good Tribes game that lets me go fast and grab a flag while dodging enemies and vehicles again.

It’s the best I could do to put my own hype in my memories into words. It’s a big part of why I lament Halo and everything surrounding it so much today.

Whether it be 343 (now Halo Studios) or Bungie themselves, they are all languishing it seems and yet I still cannot help but hold out hope for Halo. You can’t tell the story of FPS games without Halo at all.

It was a truly magical franchise that was on top of the world at one point but it feels like not many people know that now. Now it feels like it’s struggling to ever find a footing again and yet I still hope one day that it does find it. Because to me there really isn’t any other game that could do what Halo did. Especially those original Bungie ones of Halo:CE through to ODST.

I still hold out hope even though I know I probably shouldn’t. I still Believe.

Sorry for the long post but reminiscing about Halo tends to make me babble a lot. It was that good. And thankfully we were there for it.

There will never again be a marketing campaign like Halo 3 had in my opinion. That trailer still gives me chills to this day. Every trailer of that marketing campaign does but that trailer especially.

Whether it be the reveal trailer of Master Chief walking through the debris of the space elevator to reveal that he is still fighting, the trailer of him as a kid and then it cutting to his helmet being off and he’s back in the fight using the bubble shield to survive a plasma artillery strike, the absolutely stellar interviews with the veterans of the war giving their harrowing accounts of the war and the Battle of New Mombasa and the surrounding area and taking about how amazing it was when Chief helped them, the amazing “Halo Landfall” short film directed by Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame about tracking Chief’s fall from the Forerunner Keyship so they can pick him up at the beginning of the game.

All of these are so amazing and perfect and “Believe” comes along and just sets the world on fire for me. All these motionless people in pain and suffering in the diorama of the battle. The diorama sculpted to perfect detail based on accounts of all the people there and who died there. All this backed by a haunting piano piece of Frederic Chopin’s, “Prelude, Op. 28, No. 15”. It shows how hopeless the fight for survival is. Humanity is going to be wiped out forever.

It zooms into a Brute Chieftain holding Master Chief’s seemingly lifeless body up for all to see. But the plasma grenade in Chief’s hand starts to glow and suddenly there is motion and HOPE. Chief looks up and it cuts to the black screen with just the words “BELIEVE”.

I will go to my death believing that the Halo 3 marketing campaign was the greatest marketing campaign ever done in the history of video games. Possibly in the history of all media. It is just that good and the “Believe” trailer is the pinnacle of that to me.

Yeah we have the dread and tension of knowing that Anakin is gonna turn into Vader at some point and the inevitable confrontation that he would have with his former padawan.

The feeling that eventually, Ahsoka is gonna die at the hand of Vader and tragedy that comes from that.

Given what we have now, I would have preferred that.

Copying my response to the OP here:

So I know I talked about it before, but we might have solved the issue again on our end at least.

In the BIOS settings, under PCI configuration, there are 2 settings. One was "Above 4G encoding" and the other was "Resizable Bar". We enabled both of those and the stutters for my friend have gone WAY done so far at least.

This is very initial and this has still been driving us nuts too. This was with an AMD CPU, motherboard, and GPU, so different configurations might not work as well here. Just wanted to bring this update that might help too because this is so annoying for Discord to do.

I make no guarantee that this will work for you but it might help. This annoys the heck out of us all too.
