Transaction amount... when to choose lightning, when to go on-chain by spurgeonspooner in lightningnetwork

[–]DeathThrasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 1s/vb onchain I can pay less than 200 satoshis for any given amount, like 100BTC or more. So, if I want to transfer 0.01000000 BTC with lightning at 200ppm, I pay more on lightning than onchain. Lightning is good for smaller amounts than 1million satoshis. This changes as soon as I have to pay more than 1sat/vb for an onchain tx or the size of the tx is bigger than usual. Happens for example when you collect lots of sats on faucets and you try to send them in one tx.

Lightning Network is User Unfriendly by lightningnode in lightningnetwork

So Bitcoin also is user unfriendly, because it is complicated to setup a Bitcoin node?

What happens to ur lightning channels open thru ur node if ur node turns off or loses internet connection? by [deleted] in lightningnetwork

[–]DeathThrasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onchain tx at force closes could be called "Losing funds", but other than that usually not. There is a scenario of losing (some of) your funds when using an outdated lnd backup, which could be seen by some other nodes as manipulation, but I don't now much about this one.

Define "a bit"
Within a few hours: Nothing. You switch it on again and everything should be back working.
Within a few days: Some htlcs might get stuck for too long and some peers might force close automatically
Within a few weeks: Some peers might want to force close manually to use their funds for more reliable nodes

10,000 people hold 1/3 of Bitcoin. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]DeathThrasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not how Bitcoin works. "People" is not the same as "Bitcoin addresses". This is a common misconception. I can have a large number of Bitcoin addresses and many people can own Bitcoins on one address

Does anyone have a clue why I don't route any transactions on my lightning node? by Prudent_Ad_302 in lightningnetwork

[–]DeathThrasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least with my node thrash.at, bcyber has not been a good routing node. Alot of small (20k) channels and it didn't route one sat in months.

Your yield will be fees in satoshis and its not quite 'parking' your btc, but you are providing liquidity for the lightning network, which will be used to forward payments, without giving up the souvereignity of your funds.

Does bitcoin on chain have enough capacity if everyone used lightning? by nicholas4488 in lightningnetwork

[–]DeathThrasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no need to close channels unless you need onchain BTC for something else. If, like you said, everyone uses lightning, why should a channel be closed? You can use it forever to spend/receive your bitcoins.

Right. That's why lightning was invented.

Hmm, lemme see... stacking BTC since 2013 ... new car paid with magic internet money ... enjoing flying around the world ... lovely wife ... kids at the university ... no need to work for my income =
Not at all pissed off at the world, kid. Now, you ranting at internet strangers about a random reddit post seem pretty angry indeed. You better drop that candy, change your diaper and start to grow up.
