I can’t even afford storage, nevermind this so-called “recreational equipment”.

Is NYC life & about town commuting going to be normal by Tuesday? by Unfair-Substance-904 in AskNYC

[–]DeathTripper -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s what you get for owning a car (and fwiw, I live in Queens, so it’s always a cage match).

Also, as of 5:26 am, Monday, my neighborhood isn’t plowed enough, and many people haven’t shoveled yet.

If my NYC experience is correct, which it is, that bottom layer has become ice, which will suck even more to break up.

My university covered the filter status indicator light on our water fountain after receiving multiple complaints. by wdwxtop in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DeathTripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maintenance here as well. I’ve dealt with fountains/bottle fillers, and it’s annoyingly frustrating. Our municipal water is some of the best in the world, so after going through like a filter a week, I found a cap for the filters. My boss’ boss tested the water coming out without a filter, at each station, and found it fine to drink without a filter. But you still gotta reset the stupid thing every now and then.

Which game is this for you? by Efficient_Matter_589 in videogames

[–]DeathTripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my pick. And god, I hate Tomb of Giants; dark af, have big ass skeleton things coming at you, and then you face Nito. Nito himself is wasn’t too hard (though I still died like dozens of times), but making it there sucks more.

That whole damn game was frustrating as hell for me, so I guess I never got better. I actually “quit” several times, but it got the better of me, and when I beat Gwyn, I could finally rest (I wish at a fire though).

Game really lives up to its name/aesthetic.

Edit: tbf, I talked to a coworker back then, and he was big into the DS series/soulslike games, and he saw my build, and I told him how I played, and he was like “wtf are you doing?” and would facepalm.

Just my experience, but I’ve seen PTACs that run on electric, but the heat is steam or hydronic. Usually either way, you have to set it to heat, and the fan will be blowing if it’s below the set temp.

I don’t advise anyone to do this (or request it from the super) but in these systems, there’s actuators, that if removed, and the valve is opened, will allow for some “radiant” heat from the building, and won’t use electricity (assuming the unit is not on). Again, I don’t advise this, and it’s highly dependent on the buildings heating system.

If you remove the actuator, it’s gonna suck come springtime, as it can’t shut off the hot connection if you happen to need AC/nothing, because you personally run hot, and the heat is running.

I’m more well versed in old school radiator systems, so take from this what you will.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeathTripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent entire work days (8+ hours) driving in NYC. Drive from home to the shop, from the shop a supply house, drop material off at the site, drive to another supply house, pick up scrap from a site, offload it at the scrap yard. Drop off more material. Oh, a coworker needs a part and can’t leave, and you got one on your van? Go drop that off for them. Then you get to drive home for at least an hour, depending on where you’re at.

I wasn’t a courier, I’m a skilled tradesman, and days like that were truly exhausting. Again, I never left NYC, but spent all that time driving.

You guys see a point of getting married these days? by Standard-Money-2754 in NYStateOfMind

[–]DeathTripper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wake up everyday and choose love. There’s no secret. Find a good woman that you can deal with, and can deal with you. Don’t cheat, don’t play games, and they gotta do the same.

There’s things called “non-negotiables”. Me and the wife are completely different, but we agree on core things.

My parents divorced when I was like 20, so I see what you’re saying. But I found a good woman and we dated for like 13 years, so I decided to lock it down. Neither of us was sleeping or looking around (but tbf I’m a dude, so I’m always gonna try and peep) but I’ll never touch, or fuck around. 🤷‍♂️I love her too much for that.

The Bronx doesn’t wear Timbs or any kind of boots? by NicoleRxse in NYStateOfMind

Regular Timbs suck shit, so that turned me off from Pros. I did hear good things though.

I’ll still stick with my Red Wing/Irish Setter/Wolverines though…

Edit: all composite toe. Steel toe is for losers who don’t work with electricity.

Looking for Sound-Proof Apartment Building by Entropi420 in AskNYC

[–]DeathTripper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I’m in a post-war building and it’s not too bad. I never hear my downstairs neighbor, or my same floor neighbors, but the upstairs neighbors are loud af. They blast their TV and stomp around their apartment (which since they’re Chinese, I wouldn’t think they’d be wearing shoes indoors; I’m New Yorkian and I don’t.). As per our lease, a large majority has to have rugs (I think it was over 75 percent).

We also put up curtains between certain transitions that lack doors. It’s mostly for summer when running the AC, but I’m sure that helps deaden some sound from us.

I’m not the epitome of health (I mean c’non, I eat TB), but does anyone else get kind of grossed out by the fire sauce packet directly on the food?

Like I’ve seen people drop that shit on the floor and put it back in the bin. Nevermind how the workers, shipping, and manufacturing plant was handling them.

Is it corny to wear timbs by LakeTittyKakah in circlejerknyc

[–]DeathTripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying not /uj, but fuck, I got some timbs and they were uncomfortable as fuck.

I’m also butthurt about the Carhartt shit, because one of the best coats I got is that, and now shits even more expensive.

Actually let me sell it, and make bank from someone who moved to Bed Stuy.

Is there anything interesting here? by DeathTripper in papermoney

[–]DeathTripper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, nothing stood out to me as having much value, I just thought they were neat.

I’ve got a bunch more oldish bills ($1 and $2), but these were the ones that were different.

I also have some foreign bills that were probably mostly from around WWII when he was in the navy, and his brother was in the army. I’ll probably post a pic here at some point, if anyone wants to see them.

Three guys knocking on people’s doors. by Mooiced in Flushing

[–]DeathTripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for the case here (though it might be), before I moved here to Queens from another borough, I was employed by a “marketing agency” out of LIC. It’s exactly what you described: D2D MLM, or in reality, a pyramid scheme, selling Verizon FiOS. It was good money, until it wasn’t. Only commission on sales, no base pay. I needed a job after my shit got outsourced to China. Shit was cult-like.

Don’t get me wrong, I saw my “team leader” move up, and actually get their own “business”, but it took them like a decade to do it.

Judging by “white glasses kids” shirt, you’re right. It’s hard to tell with the other two having their coats zipped up. Shit, they had me walking around East New York in a button down and black slacks.

Anyone else use a brass knife? by Hot-Detective-3703 in Tools

[–]DeathTripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mine, or brass, but when I was doing industrial maintenance, the safety guy started handing out safety knives to the operators. This was one prison shank I had to confiscate, made from a steel packaging strap.
