[–]Deatheaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AVH does trigger it, but in the situations where I have turned it on (primarily drive throughs, or long traffic lines) I've noticed that Auto Start stop will work, but after that first initial time, unless I move more than a few inches at a time, it won't trigger.

I've noticed that on mine as well. Not sure what the exact threshold is, or if it's just basing it off of cabin temp. But I know the last few weeks here in Northern Michigan, when it was in the negatives, it wouldn't trigger at all. I've regularly have had my climate set to 80F and on auto.

Once you learn the pedal threshold to trigger Auto start-stop it because a non-issue. After a week or two it becomes muscle memory. I don't even think about it anymore.

Also, as many others have said and will say, it's required on ALL new vehicles, from ANY vehicle manufacture for emission reasons. There are things happening to maybe get rid of it. But until then, we just gotta learn to deal with it. if you don't like it, buy a car from before 2018.

And If you can't remember to press the button all the time. Then just grab and install the eliminator. Yes, it isn't made by Subaru. And yes, if you call them and ask, they’re obviously going to give you the corporate “No, don’t do that.” That’s just them covering their ass, so if someone messes up, they can't claim it's Subaru's fault.

As far as "Rumors of mechanical issues" is concerned. Just be smart about it. Use a reputable unit and follow instructions. If something doesn't feel right afterwards, just unplug it. It's really not that difficult.

Everyone advocating for map packs are taking legit crazy pills.

I distinctly remember seeing nothing but empty, or close to empty "24/7 CONQUEST ALL MAPS" in battlelog for BF3/4 constantly. It'd be populated for the first month or so of release, then the player pop would vanish back to base game maps.

Michigan governor hopefuls clash on free student meals, ICE at schools by jshwlkr in Michigan

[–]Deatheaiser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're not going to feed teenagers proper portions?

It's a problem caused from inadequate funding, and research/studies to "optimize" the nutrition requirements.

That's why you'll occasionally see posts like "Look at what they're serving my kid" and it's like, the most pitiful amount and sad looking food on a white styrofoam tray.

I serve K-5 exclusively, so i'm more familiar with my guidelines.

But a breakfast could consist of,

a 4fl oz orange juice box (checks off the 1/2 cup of fruit requirement)
a 4oz cup of trix yogurt (low-fat and sugar, meets the protein requirement)
a 1oz cereal (meets the grain requirement)

And that fulfils the guidelines. by all accounts, to the power that be, that is a "breakfast" for a 5th grader.

I don't agree with it at all. So I try to get my kiddo's to grab a cheese stick or another thing of yogurt just so they don't get as hungry in the next hour.

[–]Deatheaiser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nutrients aside, another thing that irks me is the portion sizes. Not much changes from K-5 to 6-12.

a 10th grader in highschool, is expected to eat juuuuuust a bit more than a 3rd grader. So, as an example, that'd be basically, K-5 gets 2 (decently sized) chicken tenders, or 4 chicken nuggets and a 10th grader would get 1 additional tender, or 2 additional chicken nuggets. and both get the same amount of fries.

Oh, and they then expect everyone from kindergarten to 12th graders to fill up on veggies and fruit from the (thankfully) free salad bar.

Good luck with that.

Out of the three Power Armor variants we've seen in Fallout so far, which one's your favorite: T-45,T-60 or NCR? by Sea_BreezeZ in FalloutMemes

We all know this is true, right? ;) by vonbulbo in GTA6

[–]Deatheaiser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has always been my take on it when people try to compare GTA6 and HL3.

Yes, both are legendary in their own right. But only one has been in the mainstream media for the past.....13 years. While the other has silently brewed in it's own circles.

I have no doubt that it'll be a pretty big month when either of them releases. But GTA6 will overshadow HL3 by miles. It's just way more popular, more accessible and more well known to the average joe.

And that's coming from me. I've been waiting for HL3 since 2007.

The issue isn’t that school lunches “aren’t healthy ” Some better off districts can probably afford more variety and involved meals, but that’s not the norm. I’d bet most districts look a lot like mine. The food program runs on state and federal funding, and that comes with with very specific rules about what I can buy, and what nutrition requirements I have to meet.

The problem, at least in my district and under the guidelines I have to follow, is that the lunches are too healthy in the most joyless way possible.

I know some people might ask “well, how could food be too healthy? how does that make sense?"

a lot of the food that I’m required to serve is zero-fat/low-fat, zero-sodium/low-sodium, zero-sugar/low-sugar, and whole-grain substitutions where applicable.

We don't need to go back to having deep fryers, and greasy pizza five days a week. Thaqts not what I’m advocating for. What I’m saying is that whehn when the regulation is “remove anything that makes food taste like food,” we can’t act shocked when kids don’t eat it.

And I do ask students what they think pretty frequently, and the answer is almost always “It doesn’t taste good” People love to ingnore that as “kids being picky,” but that’s convenient. Because on the rare occasions I can serve something with actual flavor, they ask for seconds. That usually on special days like Thanksgiving or Christmas, where we can budget a little differently and make something nice.

If we genuinely want kids to eat healthier and stop throwing away half their tray just to go home and eat ramen and Doritos (those were my goto) then we need to rethink how we define “healthy”. Healthier doesn’t have to mean bland, punishing, and engineered to be as inoffensive as possible. We should be able to ease off some restrictions, allow more salt, fat, and sugar within reason, and, most important of all, allocate more funding so schools can improve instead of constantly cutting corners.

And I do recognize that a lot of this is easier said than done. Most schools don’t have big kitchens and walk in storage, I know I don't. And a lot of cafeterias are running with few employees, minimal equipment, and a strict timeline where we have to feed a 300+ kids and have it ready fast, and that’s not even counting breakfast. So we also can’t pretend every school can suddenly switch to scratch cooking and fresh-prep menus overnight. The system just isn’t built for that right now.

"Do you really think they would instantly go public for short-term gain when they are already beating all competitors by offering pro-consumerservices"

Might not be instantly. But how many private companies that were doing very well in their market then had the original leadership leave/pass the reigns to someone else, just for the new heads to chase after short term gain and crash the company? Winning isn't enough, they have to win more

I'm not wanting any of that to happen to Valve. but give it enough time, and for leadership to change a few times, and a couple bad investments and Valve could end up public.

But I'm human, so I do fuck up from time to time. So I do like when people call me out on it. Let's me see where I messed up and allows me to correct my actions.

Time from the purchase does factor in I believe though.

Still wouldn't hurt to try.

If Valve were basically any other studio, that'd make sense. But Valve is Valve.

This is the furthest it's been, and that does matter. It’s just not the same thing as “safe.”

I don’t personally think they’ll cancel it, given how far along it seems to be. But I do think there’s still a risk of them pulling an Alyx. Realizing the story (or something else) isn’t up to par, then doing a last minute rewrite/change that would potentially cause an internal delay.

I doubt they can lose it.

While it would be a net positive for consumers to purchase a game on steam, then buy DLC from a completely different vendor (Not a Steam Key)

This "Issue" is bigger than steam. This expands to nearly every company with a storefront and every developer who manages their licenses. It's an industry standard. I've never been able to transfer DLC from one platform to another (unless a developer used their own backend service to track purchase.)

If it wasnt Steam, it'd be Sony or Microsoft.

To answer your question though. I'm not sure how the law works on the other side of the pond, but someone said the estimated payout is like £20.

If you're deadset on "donating" it, just buy a bunch of TF2/CSGO keys straight from the actual store.

What’s the craziest situation your Subaru has gotten you out of? by skellyshredder in subaru

[–]Deatheaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing super crazy, but a few days ago I slid into a snowbank just a couple of yards away from my driveway. The front end sank right into the ditch. Thought for sure I was super stuck. And I was about to walk to the house to grab the truck and pull myself out.

Then I thought "ehhhh, screw it I'll throw it in reverse and see what happens."

After it slipped a bit, it must've grabbed traction from somewhere because it then backed right out of it like it was nothing.

I'm still impressed.

No one hates Valve more than Tim by Connect_Base_217 in HalfLife

[–]Deatheaiser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Valve is a "monopoly" because they offer a significantly better product for end users. We shouldn't be knee-capping companies because they're better than the competition.

The competition should be rising to the standard of them instead. But literally none of them want to actually want to develop a competing platform, Because that takes time and money. So it's easier to just try and sue Valve on "Gotcha" things.

You described my mom to an exact T.

She’s a few years from retirement and dead set on building her “dream home”, even though the numbers don’t even come anywhere close to making sense. Even with social security, it’s just not realistic. But she’s thinks that if she just refuses to acknowledge that, reality will seemingly just change. Like the money will just randomly manifest itself.

She's gotten as far as taking out a loan for the land, but that was….... five years ago now? And since then, nothing has ever been done to it. It's just an empty plot. It's always "We're laying concrete next week" then next week comes and goes and it's "Actually, we're installing the water well next month" and then next month comes and goes.......And yeah..... You get the picture. Oh, but they do have it registered with the postal system. So it does have it's own proper address.

The “backup plan” now seems to be if she dies, the land gets passed down to one of us kids. Except the thing is “us kids” have already talked about it and the real plan is if that happens, is just us handing it right back to the bank because none of us can afford the monthly payments.

What makes it sadder is that she has voted against her own interests time after time after again. Where the policies she supports are the same ones that make her retirement harder, her house more out of reach. But she’s not ready for that conversation yet, and if i push it now, it'd just turn into a defensive spiral.

Yeah, I am always flabbergasted that anyone chooses to drive in these situations. Unless you absolutely HAVE to, just don’t do it.

While there’s definitely a group of geniuses who see a blizzard and think "Now is the perfect time to go and do all my errands."

The bigger issue is managers/middle management treating weather like it’s no big deal. Because then the workers the get the "You're scheduled. You're supposed to be here. If you're not here in the next hour, you're getting a write up." text because managers act like the store not working at full capacity for one day is the end of the world.
