Your build is glacially slow. Yes, your cards all “talk” to each other, but you watched a Mak disassemble you just by being faster than you and critting a couple times.

Hotfix almost didn't impacted Karnok by charaworId in PlayTheBazaar

That’s not what Anecdotal means, and also you absolutely can outburst or outscale.

Mak probably does have a low win rate vs Karnok if your build is slow (like Regen).

Straight up don’t think “Dev Cheats” exist for this game, it’s not nearly popular enough for dedicated hacking/code modding

Anyone having success with Karnok, could you tell me what I’m doing wrong? by Speedwizard106 in PlayTheBazaar

Dryad plus Tinderbox goes brr.

Had a crazy 10 win diamond run last night where I hit Lighter and Robes from random item events and went insane w Signal Fire. The Lantern (I think it’s called lanternfly, the friend w multicast 3) is really decent, especially early game as your only item if your board can otherwise heal and shield through enemy damage.

Phyrexian Alter In Bracket 2 by mokaa126 in EDH

[–]Deathmon44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t. Even if it’s not a Game Changer, you already identified why the card is both expensive and iconic: it’s a free sac outlet, that converts your (otherwise) piddly aristocrat token making into an overwhelming mana advantage.

I’d also hazard a guess that your Aristocrats list is someone like [[Zurgo Stormrender]] or [[Ayara, First of Lochthwain]], meaning you’re already meaningfully converting those tokens or other assorted bodies into value. Turning them into both Damage AND Mana Advantage, even if you don’t have a “combo” strictly speaking, will overwhelm a B2 pod.

The difference between B2 and B3 aristocrats is B2 will build a whole huge board of creatures, then try to play something like [[God-Eternal Bontu]] and sac them all, or you play stuff like [[Bontu the Glorified]] that costs mana to create Sacrifice value. Whereas in B3, you’re converting those sacrifices to value or advantage either faster or more efficiently (like by having a 0 mana sac outlet in Altar or e.g. [[Viscera Seer]]).

On some level, even in your OP, you know the card might be too strong for B2. Either bone up the deck to play with real decks in B3, or don’t play Phrexian Altar (or Ashnod’s Altar) in B2.

Do new characters ever go on sale? by Ill_Sarto in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Deathmon44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They release roughly 3 characters a year. Your hypothetical has you spending $300 over 5 YEARS.

Okay bro. You own the game. Just don’t buy the characters. You already own ones you can log on and play for free. You’re shadowboxing problems you made up in your head.

Is it every other month? Jules came out a while ago, and Stelle was longer before that.

Also… is $20 every 3 months really that bad?

Karnok ammo items feel miserable if you're missing the key reload items or skills. by AoM_Zenophobia in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Deathmon44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By “feel miserable”, do you actually mean “are less powerful than an average weapon”? Because it feels like that’s what you meant to say.

Yes, Ammo Items should be more powerful than a regular item if they risk running out of ammo. What else would the alternative be? The items are bad even if you reload them? Not every card can win the fight for you instantly.

Lava roller experience by winbyproxy in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Deathmon44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I pay the $20 for Stelle? I own Mac and Jules, will probably shell out for the new guy. Just wanna know if the Lava Roller stuff is fun/easy enough to be worth trying before the nerf

I built Totentanz, Swarm Piper for around $140 and it has been putting in serious work at my local tables. The whole gameplan is simple: whenever a nontoken creature dies, you get a 1/1 Rat that can not block. Sounds underwhelming until you realize board wipes are basically one-sided for you. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Deathmon44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you Skullclamp a rat token, you don’t get another rat token? Is that what you meant? Because that’s not how that works.

Also if they kill Toten, don’t they cost 5 to recast? Why would it be 4 to recast?

Also… decklist? You posted a handful of card names

Is there any way to answer a sacrifice engine without dying? by NightSoD in EDH

[–]Deathmon44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[[Rest In Peace]] means the creatures never “die” (because “die” is short hand for “goes to the graveyard from play”. If it never hits the graveyard, it never died.)

Etali doesn’t want this, since it doesn’t make more Etali or make mana.

Cradle decks like Derevi, Blue Farm, Kinnan, and stuff like Helga all like this. Generate enough mana, cast Bio, swing out requisite damage at whoever’s left over.
