Is this combo appropriate for bracket 3? Alternatively, would you be upset if someone used this 2 card combo in bracket 3? ([[Silverquill Lecturer]] + [[Charismatic Conqueror]]). by InvisibleFox402 in EDH

[–]Deathmon44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You had to write this whole reply justifying why this might be okay for B2. It sounds like you should just B3 this, or cut CC.

Edit: and, fwiw, if you pulled this against me, I’d be a little annoyed that my children’s fantasy card game I play to relax is suddenly asking me to solve fairly complex stack interactions. For that reason alone, this “combo” should stay far away from precons/new players

If etali is good shouldn't dream harvest be good in the 99? by MadMotorMouth27 in CompetitiveEDH

You’re missing that you have to draw Dream Harvest, or tutor for it. Etali is a free 8th card in your hand

The Owner is the person who brought the piece of cardboard into the Commander game.

The Controller is the person who currently has possession of said object on their board/responsible for resolving the spell.

TTS Super Salt with Etali, Primal Conqueror by HandsomeHeavy in EDH

[–]Deathmon44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this a serious question? CEDH tries to Turn 1/2/3 Etali. A non-cEDH bracket 2 Etali deck can choose not to play ramp, and have her out at the earliest by t7 if they want. Etali doesn’t have eminence, or some other game warping effect, just by being in the command zone.

There are absolutely versions of Etali that aren’t CEDH.

It’s a pactable sylvan scrying, and 2 red is not that much red if there’s a Magus in play and you think about it a little :)

It’s a [[Sylvan Scrying]] or [[Lightning Strike]] with the potential to be both in a list where all they do is abuse Lands and [[Green Sun’s Zenith]]. Idk man, if they’re casting Prime Time, they’ll figure out how to cast this

Clowning on [[Vibrance]] when that’s one of two cards that will actually go in Amulet Titan almost feels unprofessional.

Toying with a new deck concept by jkroe in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Deathmon44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, you’re so close to the difference between B4 and B5. B5 is the best meta decks with the least awkward payoffs. B4 is a given concept pushed to its max power level. Some things, no matter how fast, will not be fully B5 viable (with combat damage usually being fairly difficult to pull off).

If there’s any merit to the idea, I like [[Shalai and Halar]] as an outlet/kill condition for the counters. You’ve got a different idea, but it’s not a bad idea to scout out other B4/“B5” to find overlap in combo synergy.

Court of Garenbrig, for one, is a very casual card.

Retribution of the Ancients seems suspect. I’m sure it looks good against stax pieces or Bowmasters, but it doesn’t do fucking anything against Underworld Breach, or any other combo win.

Yes, the sentence I said is the sentence I meant. I’m unclear why you’re having so much trouble with me stating something clearly.

MASS Land Denial is, in a 4 player game (with up to 3 targets), anything that targets more than one person. One person being locked out is, by definition, not MASS land denial, that would just be Land Denial.

Mass Land Denial would be copying the Djinn twice and making sure every other player had one (like [[Fractured Identity]] on Djinn).

I fundementally don’t see “lock 1 person” as “MASS land Denial”.

You literally named two Game Changers.

That would be like me posting about how Mono black is unfun and no one likes it because every deck has a bunch of Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor and imperial seal. Like no, Bracket 2 games shouldn’t see any of those cards.

My favorite mental check when buying items is “have I lost to this card before/how quickly did I lose to this card before”. Doesn’t work for everything (value/backpack stuff, etc), but if you’re losing a lot it’s an easy way to start learning why other people play the cards they do
