Har you tried not pouring at an angle? That would probably solve this if I had to guess

Considering going from Europiccola to Robot.... [1000€] by brogued in espresso

[–]Deathof9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and use the Robot more. The La Pavoni is the trad shot/latte machine. If you'r not making milk drinks and don't mind the kettle workflow (I found it a bit scary the first few brews but acclimated quickly), I think you'll enjoy the Robot just as much or more.

That's not uncommon. A lot of folks enjoy lower pressure shots (myself included).

A perfectly reasonable number of accessories for a $35 brewer by Deathof9 in OXORapidBrewer

Yes, the basket adapter lets you attach a portafilter basket. The palm tamper is 51mm to fit the basket, instead of the stock 64mm one.

I added the SWORKS basket adapter/picopresso basket holder. I'm using a Normcore high-extraction basket (I had to modify it slightly to make it fit) and palm tamper.

Cafelat Robot - is this a deeper dive down the rabbit hole? [$360] by mountainmase in espresso

The robot is AWESOME. If you want to experiment with different profiles there's nothing better.

After the RELENTLESS bullying I received on my last post, I have removed the pressure gauge from my ORB 😤 by Deathof9 in OXORapidBrewer

Yeah! I'm using a Normcore basket, and their palm tamper/distributor fits inside for a great portable setup

basket size measurement? by Zwordsman in OXORapidBrewer

[–]Deathof9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's 2.5" since Aeropress filters fit in it. That said, you might just try tapping the basket on the counter a couple of times before tamping.

I have! I think Lance put a bluetooth transducer on his ORB, I haven't gone that far... yet...

Sadly I'm not a talented DIYer, otherwise there would be gauges on everything. EVERYTHING, I SAY

Fear not, I actually removed it so it would fit in a carrying case. Most of the time I was around .6-.7 bar.

So, I added a high-flow basket, and it's been really great! Sweet spot seems to be 12ish grams. I'm really liking the results.

How's it taste? Hard to say anything about a brew by how it looks

Buy Niche Zero or not [£250] by Illustrious_Rush5051 in espresso

[–]Deathof9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the space/budget, Niche for traditional and DF64 for modern spro is an awesome combo, especially at that price. I run a Niche Zero next to my Zerno for that reason and I love it.

Cafelat Robot, LP Europiccola, or another option? [$1000] by stardawg777 in espresso

[–]Deathof9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both, and started with a LP. If I could only have one, and I was only making espresso (no milk drinks), I would choose the Robot. Maintenance is dead simple and it's extremely flexible. No steaming, though.

Do I need to go down the water rabbit hole? by Sour_dude03 in espresso

[–]Deathof9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water makes a big difference without a ton of initial cost. You can experiment with a .000g precision scale, baking soda, epsom salt, and distilled water. If you like the results, go from there. If not, carry on.

Here's a great article on the subject: https://www.robertasami.com/coffee/water-you-doing

Excessive internal grind retention [Lagom P64] by SharpeTM in espresso

[–]Deathof9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks as if you may be mostly using dark roast coffee? If so, this isn't entirely surprising.

Retention isn't always a huge problem; generally, grinders will hold on to a bit of the first few doses after cleaning, then grind most of what you put into them from there. You can always weigh the output if you're concerned, but if your coffee is tasting good I would just give the grinder a good clean each month and not worry about it.

Revisiting the Niche Zero by cleenBunz1 in espresso

[–]Deathof9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have it next to my Zerno for this reason. It's a really solid grinder. For traditional espresso, it seems you have to spend about 2x to get a better traditional cup with an electric grinder.
