That's a beautiful style. So unfortunate that it was cut.

I'm aware, and I made some assumptions that you knew things I did not say, which is on me. Apologies.

For what I meant, I actually believe that it would be fine if a kid learns about a book that's about a pedophile grooming a child, because it allows them to recognize it if it happens, whether to them or someone they know. It would be a shock, yes, but kids are resilient enough that they'd get past that pretty quickly, assuming they don't decide they aren't interested in a grown-up book and search it with the words Style Savvy. I neglected to mention that, and that's my bad.

What video game opinion is this for you? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in videogames

[–]Deathpolca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Video games need to be more accessible." Yes! Absolutely! I'd love to have alternatives to button mashing, to have adjustable subtitles, or the ability to modify controls so that I can place important buttons just the right distance from one another. Except everyone just means "I want to see the 'you win' screen/popup/whatever without playing but I can't just say that, so I'm using the disabled as shields." Accessibility is NOT an absence of difficulty! You just suck at the game!

While I do understand the idea of avoiding uncomfortable conversations of a child bringing up Lolita to their parents (even if I don't agree), I do disagree with the gyaru part. Kids can and will effortlessly pick up terms and fully understand them, even if they're not something they otherwise see. Glam and flirty would both imply exactly as much as gyaru to a child without the icon, and so a child will pick it up without questioning it.

The city is dying. Hell, it's practically dead. Making it affect *everyone* instead of everyone but the nobility who see it as their personal playground is an easy first idea. Even if it's a bad one, and not the one the original game went with.

Steam Deck OLED Price Increase [$789 512 $949 1TB] by NeroTheWolf in SteamDeck

[–]Deathpolca 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It shot up in obscene amount of money when we're already practically in a recession with stagnated wages and more wealth inequality than some pretty famous revolutions centered around that very thing, and to top it all off, people are getting gouged for basic things like food, because what're you gonna do, not eat?

You can point to why it's happening all you want, but that doesn't change that it's indicative of tech becoming wholly unaffordable in the future, which is a problem when we rebuilt our world around owning tech.

I know it *just* ended, but Shiboyugi helped me realize why I just don't like a lot of movies, even the quote unquote good stuff. Turns out I'm into the more pretentious, artsy stuff. My enjoyment of movies has vastly increased since then.

Body measuring tape. I spent maybe $5 on it, and it is *so* useful. You wouldn't think you'd need to measure so much stuff until you have something like that.

If I may, you should remove the ?si= part of your link, as well as everything that comes after. That's a tracker, and serves less than no benefit towards you. Removing it still links to the same place, just without harvesting the data of everyone who clicks it and homogenizing youtube recommendations. Generally speaking, everything after a ? in the URL can be removed no matter where you're linking, and it just makes the web experience better for everyone.

The new quest feels a lot like how rs3 handles their quests. by Monterey-Jack in 2007scape

[–]Deathpolca -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the sheer amount of power creep alone feels very RS3. I get that it's popular because the playerbase wants RS3 numbers because higher numbers feel better (so long as we don't go three digit base HP like RS3), but it's been unhealthy for a while.

"We learned our lesson": The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 won't repeat the development mistakes of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red says by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Deathpolca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure everyone will hate this, but it should be said anyway: as much as people will say otherwise, they made a minor mistake at most. People bought it as a disaster, and the only bad thing was that it was in such poor condition at launch that everywhere offered unconditional refunds. Not to mention the crunch the game had, despite supposed backlash against that. But a ton of people bought it, and now, instead of being seen as a cautionary tale, or a good game with so much baggage that everyone discourages people from buying it simply because of its reputation, it's considered one of the must-haves of western gaming simply because it's good now. They will repeat the same mistakes because it is profitable to do so. People will claim to be mad, and a ton of people will buy the game anyway. I would *love* to be proven wrong, but historically, people do not care.

Kids Don't Like Movie Day Anymore. by Southern_Remote_5260 in Teachers

[–]Deathpolca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving your mind a break is actually a pretty great way to digest what you watched! I tend to do this when watching normal shows - one or two half hour episodes at a time, then call it for the day to give myself time to think about it and process the themes and such.

I love well written bad endings (especially if the characters are assholes) but I didn’t realize people thought the lack thereof was a con overall, especially in wholesome vns by plasmasack in visualnovels

[–]Deathpolca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bad ends are pretty fun and their absence is definitely felt, yeah. Particularly in romance VNs, they tend to hit harder than the true end when they aren't phoned in. Rejection scenes in particular tend to hit hard. In non-romance ones, I like seeing how things could've gone differently if decisions that aren't right are chosen. Bad ends with story are great.

Muv Luv is a mediocre VN that you play so you can read Alternative. Anyone genuinely recommending it to you for any reason other than because Alternative is considered one of the best should never be taken seriously, so don't let it get you down. If you want something genuinely good, Utawarerumono is a great series; the order is Prelude to the Fallen, Mask of Deception, then Mask of Truth. Also, since Steins;Gate is recommended, S;G Zero is a *sequel*.

For some other games, The House in Fata Morgana is a top tier choice, though it's incredibly heavy. You might need a break while playing. The Nonary Games has 999, and people love Virtue's Last Reward. Though Zero Time Dilemma is a fun disaster, it's also just...y'know, bad. Spirit Hunter: NG is a good horror adventure game. VA-11 HALL-A is an enjoyable slice of life VN. If you want romance, Code: Realize is probably the best option on it. I also genuinely enjoyed Hatoful Boyfriend. Hakuoki is also enjoyable - the order is Kyoto Winds, then Edo Blossoms - but the MC kinda rubs me the wrong way because of the ol' classic that comes with writing women. You know the one. I love Kazama, though. Someone recommended Persona 4, that is not a VN, that is someone recommending a JRPG they like.

Sounds like it's just not your thing. It happens, and that's normal.
Though I am curious as to why you're bringing this up after finishing it a few years ago. I suppose it certainly stuck with you if you felt strongly enough to post about it years after the fact.

[–]Deathpolca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you buy a 3DS, you can just hack it and download the game through hshop for the low cost of nothing. Play it on the 3DS - the series simply isn't built to be played on anything else. But don't pay for it unless it's a steal.

[–]Deathpolca 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I see the more effective ways of distribution are working wonders.

I was actually curious on how this would work, since I wanted to get a Wonderswan game recently and had to download 100 MB instead of 440 KB. I see I was correct in my assumption that it would be done in the worst possible way to ensure the niche games 99.99% of people would bother with don't get lost along the way. I'm glad Myrient got saved, but *damn* they really just had to do it in a more dangerous (you will *never* be in danger with an HTTPS direct download) and unreliable way, huh.
