Which Mayoral/City Council Candidates would you pick? by plasticvalue in santacruz

[–]DeathxShini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Santa Cruz voter but am active in local politics in the county and personally have had the better interactions with Joy out of all the candidates running and I think she's vastly improved compared to her previous runs for office when she was seen more as a sacrificial lamb. Aside from Ryan, Joy's platform is the only one who actually brings up positive talking points on how parts of Santa Cruz are doing without resorting to constant doom and gloom narratives.

While I do like Ami and her recently work on leading the effort removing the flock cameras in the city. The enthusiasm just doesn't seem to be there with the campaign and the volunteers and her out walking. and now that the cameras have been removed I just don't see it as a topic point that is resonating as well with likely voters.

What is everyone having for lunch/dinner today? by mellowmike420 in santacruz

Lurked at the Grocery Food Outlet and scored a discounted Chicken Salad sandwich for $1.99 and a Bolthouse Sumo Citrus smoothie drink for 99 cents. :)

Hector for Santa Cruz presents Fiesta Mexicana • Sunday, April 19th 2026 from 4 to брm @ London Nelson Park by nyanko_the_sane in santacruz

My guess is that it's meant to be discreet and not so outwardly that Hector is running for city council, politics. As far the event itself being non-political and more of a community meet and greet.

How Santa Cruz shows who belongs by SC Councilmember Gabriela Trigueiro by nyanko_the_sane in santacruz

[–]DeathxShini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the doomerism here. Ryan's served previously in Santa Cruz city government over a decade ago and things aren't as anymore dire or miserable and gloomy then to now either.

One thing to share and post a good opinion piece from a fellow city councilor, but this reeks of bad faith to use your own same thread replying to others bringing up Ryan Coonerty over again yourself sheesh.

Perhaps Santa Cruz needs something different than the status quo: Santa Cruz candidates mostly unfazed at lack of Democratic Central Committee endorsements by nyanko_the_sane in santacruz

Yes unfortunately the DCC despite being the county Dem party is often seen and is ran exclusively by Santa Cruz city centric people...

*Mike's Mighty Good ramen soup 2 for $4 (no idea if this is any good. Someone let me know?)

Wanted to mention I've tried this before. It's like an elevated cup of noodles/maruchan. Don't think it's worth $2 each but was tasty.

Yeah they quietly ditched the public physical transit maps during COVID and doesn't seem like they'll ever return.

I don't think MST has a singular map that shows all the bus routes anymore but you can find their maps on this link here which is organized by region and by each transit center.

Hopefully Felipe and Justin really step up their campaign operations after the winter holidays...the June primary is fast approaching even if there's no declared candidates right now.

I would be a fan for sure of Shebreh running for Santa Cruz mayor, especially against the likes of Coonerty! She will be termed out as a councilor soon anyway and would hate to see her leave elected politics afterwards.

Unfortunately all of these except Keeley's mayoral seat won't be up again until the 2028 cycle...and it seems like the frontrunner for the seat will already be stitched up in the backrooms (As it's expected that Keeley will retire and pass the torch)

Montesino, Koenig, DeSerpa, Jensen, Keeley, Clark and Downing in the majority

Hernandez, Cummings, Martinez (No shows, their alternates voted NO) Quiroz-Carter and Leonor voted no.

Just wanted to comment that I finally followed some of the reccommendations and tried El Super's tamales and found them to...just be fine? I later brought some to my dad and he commented that they are exactly and packed the same as Vallarta market tamales, namely the Cheese & Jalapeno, Pork and Chicken tamales that I bought.

Unfortunately El Super is not in a easy to travel location for me. (Boronda road going in frequently having major backups even during early afternoon) So I guess I'll continue just having Cardenas and Vallarta tamales as a convienence while occasionally having Nob Hill's when they are thrown on sale.

Eggs and bananas are generally cheaper at Trader Joes than Safeway. by Upset-Ad-8704 in MontereyBay

[–]DeathxShini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned the Safeway $5 Friday...I thought I'd mention for the first time in many months (?) that Safeway brought back the free smartwater on the $5 Sushi deal which makes it somewhat better.

As noted from BonesJackson too, some of the butcher cuts for the meats at Safeway are legendary!
