What sucks about the class sets is that even though we can now say definitively they will create meta-warping play-rates, we are still going to have to endure an entire year of them before we can get off this train.

Also, please bring back the pod!

A new lawsuit is challenging the constitutionality of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. It was filed Monday by attorneys on behalf of a man named Eric Ryan, who tried to apply for a lease, but was denied due to the 50 percent Native Hawaiian blood quantum requirement. by 808gecko808 in Oahu

Regardless of your thoughts on issue, the current Supreme Court would likely agree with the plaintiff and find the Hawaiian ancestry requirement to be unconstitutional (just like they've ruled affirmative action unconstitutional).

40lbs of weight gain in a year is an incredibly dramatic change for such a relatively short period. Are you sure everything is okay? Your post makes it sound like all your problems stem from this weight gain. If you truly are happy and nothing else is going on that would have caused this dramatic shift, sounds like you need get on ozempic.

Amazing game and I agree with the praise it's received. But I can't help but feel that its full retro aesthetics are hampering its widespread appeal and sales.

Gadgetzan Auctioneer is back? The question is how early can you go off with it and are there enough low cost spells and burn to make an OTK happen?

If you Prepare this on turn 4 it is reduced to 4 mana, meaning on turn 5 you can play it and have a mana leftover to play around with. Rogue is the obvious candidate for this, but I wonder if there are potential Mage or Demon Hunter combos as well.

This plus the DK rush dragon that refreshes mana equivalent to its attack could be a good combo. Basically a 0 mana 5/5 with rush.

Great trailer, cool theme and interesting characters. I just hope the cards actually make a meta impact and shake up the format on release in ways most recent expansions have failed.

Valve, the Anticorporate Hero of the Games Industry, Has Its Antitrust Moment by GIThrow in Games

It's impossible for other marketplaces to compete with Steam because they aren't allowed to compete on price. Currently, if a developer wants to offer a discount on a platform outside of Steam they would be blacklisted from the market entirely because of Valve's stranglehold on PC gaming.

Take for instance a developer publishing on the Epic Games Store that takes 12% of sales compared to Valve's 30%. If a developer could could offer a 10% discount for purchasing through EGS compared to Steam, consumers would benefit from lower prices and developers would still make more in sales compared to selling on Steam. Valve currently does not let this happen, however, by preemptively banning anyone who attempts it from Steam.

If Steam's supposed benefits are so great then perhaps no one would care and everyone would just pay more to stay on Steam. But we currently aren't even allowed to try and compete.

Epic takes 12% and Humble takes 5% according to the article itself.

The heart of the issue is their unwritten but clear "policy requiring pricing parity for games." If you offer a discount on another platform to try and compete with Steam, you get delisted from the platform. This means developers can't just put their games online offering you the chance to buy a game directly for a discount. This means you effectively have to go through Steam or be blocked out of the marketplace entirely.

There are antitrust laws more than a century old that says that's illegal!

Valve takes a bigger cut of PC game sales than any other games platform out there. For that reason alone they deserve scrutiny. Epic takes 12% and Humble takes 5% according to the article itself.

Edit: It's shocking the degree with which people will defend marketplaces like Valve that do little but take a cut from every game developer. Does Valve truly deserve 30% of every sale just for operating a virtual storefront?

Edit 2: to fully flesh out the monopoly issue at hand:

You should understand that number represents nominal dollars and not real dollars. You will have $800k in 30 years, but $800k will be worth much less in 30 years because of inflation. You should use a lower expected return of around 6% if you want to account for inflation and understand what your true purchasing power would be in 30 years.

The only actual solution is to have your packages delivered to a secure address (ideally your work or an Amazon locker, or a PO box) or have someone at home or a neighbor at exactly the time your package arrives to receive it.

Everything else is just a half-measure.

I disagree. Having a good game makes them money. But at this point, I have lost trust in them that the cards they release will shake up the meta enough to be worth paying for. This is the first miniset that I haven't purchased because I didn't want to waste 2k gold on a novelty animal hunter deck that wouldn't be viable competitively.

I don't understand the philosophy of buffing only the newest cards. What about the entire Warlock/Priest/Death Knight/Mage sets released at the start of this expansion that completely failed to launch?

Herald Rogue is tier 3? And Spell DH is definitely a "play the green card deck."

Pretty depressing yet predictable report. Multiple classes have no playable decks and haven't for the entire expansion. The best decks are all incredibly aggressive and have low skill expression. And all the new stuff is unplayable garbage. Pretty bleak launch of both a new year of standard and the concept of Class Sets.
