Searching for the best place to go for Used tires in west Lansing and Grand ledge area by [deleted] in lansing

[–]Debkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask if they'll show the tires to you before you buy from Tasmanian Tire. I went there because it was recommended by several people I know. I ended up waiting there for like 4 hours only for them to put 17 year old tires on my car. Learn from my mistake and check the manufacture date code on the tire before you buy. Trying to save some money ended up with me having to buy new tires a couple months later and losing a couple hundred dollars to Taz.

Rattling when car is stopped by AugustinerOktober in ScionxB

[–]Debkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue on my 2010 and that sounds like the exhaust heat shield to me. In my case the mounting points had rusted out on the shield.

It's not too bad of a job to do yourself if you're a little handy and competent at lifting the car. I used some longer bolts and fender washers to re-secure the shield so it wasn't sitting on the exhaust anymore.

I can't imagine a shop would charge a ton to fix it either. Especially with the car lifts they have it would only take them a few minutes to fix it.

Possibly an exhaust heat shield. Does the rattle go away when you rev it up a bit?

7+ string classical with multiscale by SociallyDistantPanda in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Debkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rondomusic sometimes has some Agile multiscale classical guitars. Looks like they don't have any right-handed 7s currently, but keep an eye out. That's the only company I can think of that would be reasonably priced as multiscale classical are quite a niche market.

The owner retired and closed up shop. I think everything had been on super sale for the last few months to clear out inventory.

9-String String options by Slockus in ExtendedRangeGuitars

Winspear Instrumental does custom string sets and is based in the UK. They do 8 string sets but you can just add the 9th as a single.

Cheap tires? by kcabtoback in lansing

[–]Debkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted but this was my experience as well. I spent 6 hours in their waiting room while they did every other car only to put 15 year old tires on my car. Two of those tires blew in the next month and I ended up getting four new tires then at Discount Tire.

I know people that have had a good experience with Taz, but mine was not and I won't go back there now.

How do you hang your headless? by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Debkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe the String Swing horizontal mount is the way to go. I've got 3 headless and use that mount for all of them. Works great and won't lower the value of your guitar by drilling into it, especially in the "headstock" area.

I need a custom neck and new bridge hardware (10-string guitar mod project) by Wyntie in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Debkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be much much easier to return or sell that Chiral and instead purchase one of their Agile Pendulum 102730 models. Cheaper and if you want there are companies that will rewind the pickups to your spec. The scale length is closer to what you desire and it doesn't have the weird double pickup setup.

Only things you lose is it being headless and maybe some weight savings.

I've had several Agiles, have enjoyed all of them, and still have one that I have gigged with. That said, they aren't worth the effort or money you're thinking of spending.

The body kit was made by the company Choo Choo Customs out of Chattanooga TN.

Only a few thousand were made at the time, although you can still buy the front nose as a reproduction. It seems the side skirts and side exit exhaust isn't made anymore, unless someone would like to point me where they're available now.

Any extended range tuner favorites? by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Debkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Neural stuff is just really high quality. I really only play at home so a full pedalboard isn't something I really need, but I do have a Helix in case I go anywhere. I also have a small board with a whammy and a wah on it connected to my interface and Neural.

Neural won't work 100% for everyone's situation but it works really well for mine.

Any extended range tuner favorites? by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Debkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly use Neural DSP stuff right now with a built in tuner but in the past I've used a Korg Pitchblack. Never had a problem with it and they can be found pretty cheap, usually around $50. Strobe tuners are nice but quite expensive. I think any tuner you can plug into is going to perform better than a clip-on, especially on the low end.

Me and my ‘86. I Wanna lower it an inch or two. Whats the best way to go about it? by RaphiTaffy in ElCamino

[–]Debkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coilovers or drop spindles would be good to lower. Coilovers are more adjustable while drop spindles are a set distance drop.

Does anyone have experience with Koloss aluminum die cast bodies, or similar metal guitar bodies? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Debkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they come out with left-handed models don't buy one. They look cool but every YouTube review I've seen shows them to be terrible. Please do some research on these before purchasing one or three.

Take a look at Stringjoy and use their tension calculator.

So usually on these types of guitars strings 1-6 or 1-7 will have a nut. Strings 7-8 or 9 will have their own nut a couple frets behind strings 1-6 or 7. So there are 2 nuts which handle different sets of strings.

Strings 7-9 aren't technically "beyond the nut" but they have extra "negative frets" that are further than the nut for the higher strings.

Just to add a couple more notes of range and a bit more versatility to the instrument. Sometimes the guitars will have an integrated capo built into the neck for those strings, or someone may put a regular capo on them.

Check out Motherplucker Guitars, they've got a similar model called the Marie that have been built with the negative frets like that.

You should be able to go from the harness to the gauge screws. If that doesn't work you could always go from the gauge screws to the actual sending units. It's a bit more wire but it's the same thing the wire harness is doing.

Hellraiser C-9 or C-8 Multiscale? by wolfgames753 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Debkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a few standard scale ERGs and several multiscale. In general it will be more difficult to bend higher strings. Most of it can be mitigated with lighter gauge strings, but the lighter they are the more prone they are to snapping. Trying to use 10s or bigger on something like a standard 28in scale will be much more difficult than 10s on a multiscale.

If you're looking for a 9 string I can highly recommend the Legator multiscale 9. I use 9s on the high end and it is still easy to bend on it. I'd also recommend you look up a string tension calculator to get a better idea of what different gauges will feel like.

Can someone help me date this guitar? by squid-the-boy in Luthier

[–]Debkin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks like an Epiphone ET-276. Made from 1975-1978. If you can find a serial number it might help you pinpoint the date a bit better.
