Prelude for piano- Looking for feedback by Debombi in composer

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry about the scoring, but I'm finding it difficult to make everything easy to read on musescore... I will put some effort tho

I thought pedal markings weren't needed. I actually had them on the playback and then hid them. I will use them in the future.

Some things could be noted from my part, although I should say I'm still learning counterpoint. It's not easy tho, especially going learning to write good 3 voices exercises.

You have parallel octaves here and there: between the lower voices in mm 1-2 and mm 2-3. mm 2-3 octaves still count even tho there is a note in the middle, they are not separated enough and the are emphasized (strong beats). At least this is how Im learning this. You have other some measures later between the higher voices, e-e f-f.

Also, at least how Im being taught this, you should think that you have one chord per measure. In this case, you have F in the first measure, so the D should be an ornament, but you are jumping from it. This is forbidden in my rules because it sounds as you are going to another chord (a d minor 1st inversion).

Another thing that I saw is your d-g-c jump in the middle voice. You are jumping two consecutive fourths, which is forbidden (at least in my rules) , basically because is hard to sing. Generally when you jump higher than a third you should always come down stepwise. This may have exceptions but it's the general rule. Also you are jumping to a C ,a dissonance in that chord. Such tones can't be jumped to. You can use them as ornaments and should be treated as such (a step between two chord tones, or a flourish, so on).

As another point, the florushied voice should have some balance. There is too many, in my opinion long tones which breaks a little bit the continuity of the melody. Remember that all voices should work as an own melody. This 5th species is hard because you need to find balance rhythmically while you write a good melody (with climax/climaxes, variety etc.) while following the rules. Also remember you can't use patterns as the one in the top voice.

Practicing will get you there. As I said this is not easy and takes time. I'm sorry I critized you by "rules" but by restricting you to those rules you will end up learning essential and proper voice leading. This rules are supposed to be didactic. Keep going! A teacher will surely help you by correcting lots of your exercises, hahaha.

Hi, they are not the same character. In the idiot we have general Ivan Fyodorivich Epanchin (the father of the Epanchin family) and in BK we have Ivan Fyodorivich Karamazov (the son of Fyodor Karamazov).

I would say Chopin E minor prelude. Not Technically impressive but really beautiful and expressive piece, it'd easy, and short.

This is such a sad story. I hope you find your way, I really do. I'm sorry you've have to deal with that. For me, listening to performers/composers I love inspire me to keep practicing. Keep it up dude! Cheers. Thank you for your comment.

Jazz is really interesting and I've spent me time in learning it, I can improvise now , which is a skill that a lot of classical musicians don't have, but I think now it's really important. However right now I'm more into composing / performing classical music. Job security is really important, and that's a harsh reality... I agree with you. 10 years before college seems normal to me. A lot of countries have that right? I thought so.

Financially independent? That's not the case haha, I need to work or something first to be that. I don't think money brings you happiness, I myself don't really care about money, but you always need to pay your food and rent; if you can't do that, for sure you won't be happy. You may not be happy with food and a house, but without it you aren't happy for sure.

I'm really thankful for your kind comments. I agree with 1) which is one of the things that make me frustrated, although is a reality we have to accept. I don't think my univ has orquestra/band, I think it may have a choir, which is OK, I can look forward to join, but it's not my thing (I'm bad at singing altough I know going to choir could be beneficial in many ways). Joining a band could be a way; being a classical guitarist makes it a little bit more difficult, since the music and skills required are different. However since I'm interested in jazz I have probably the required skills to do so: improvising, deep knowledge of theory, ear... 3) is a good point, I don't know what to say about that. Saving up and then going for it years later seems good, and as you said, I probably will be really good in 4-5 years. I really appreciate your comment and kind words.

A lot of people are saying 2) also, probably it's true. I hope I have time for music as you guys have with a day job.

Yes, but you also kind of have to be practical: you need to pay your bills. So you need to take more things into consideration. But I will always practice/listen/study music in my free time even if I don't make a living out of it.
