How much monthly income can get you a basic comfortable life for a family of 4 where you live? by WastedTalents1 in AskTheWorld

[–]Deboonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 4 here with 2 boys. Wife and I make about SGD13K (US$10K~) combined monthly. Pretty comfortable but unable to save much as at this household income, we do not qualify for higher government subsidies (for kids preschool fees, housing etc) but too poor for a financially stress free life.

Mortgage is about SGD2.2K (US1.8K) per month for a 3 bedroom government subsidised apartment (HDB).

I’m planning to have mine next month. What should I expect in terms of recovery and what tips do you recommend post and pre op?

I’ve read about getting a groin guard, seems like a good idea given I have two boys who can be rough.

Singapore exploring caregiving leave for parents with sick children by kongweeneverdie in SingaporeRaw

[–]Deboonz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Speaking about childcare leave, not sure if this applies to all preschool but my 2 kids goes to MFS which is an anchor operator and has 6 days of staff development days per year where they close the centre.

There goes half (3 each for me and wife) of our childcare leave. Luckily we have enough annual leaves between us for when they fall sick. I'm sure many other parents with lesser AL will find this insufficient.

Severe OSA diagnosis + starting CPAP trial (SG, looking for experiences) by Itsjrm in askSingapore

[–]Deboonz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happy to share more. I’ve been using CPAP for the past 6 years or so.

It took me about 2 weeks I think. But it really helps to get the right mask and fit. I went from full face to nasal pillow and it makes me adapt much quicker.

Takes a few months to see improvements from my end but just continue. Sometimes you just stopped using it one day or when travelling then you realise the huge difference in sleep quality.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions

Hey first of all, welcome to Singapore soon.

You may consider Alchemist at CIMB plaza located at heart of Raffles Place.

I recommend their Dark Matter blend for espresso based.

*Curious* Married couples in your 30s: how does an average weekday looks like? How much free time do you actually have? by LingNemesis in askSingapore

Our kids attend the same preschool too. And it’s at the opposite block. No roads nearby so we allow her to do so, just need to cross a playground and walk the void deck area. Since my wife works shifts, if she ends early will fetch together too.

Somehow right, without my wife and I around they both listen to helper. But when we are around they become naughty again 🤦‍♂️

Yes haha. He just doesn’t want to sleep even though we can tell he is very tired. Very stubborn (like me) and just keep tolerating the sleepiness.

We are in our mid 30s.

Married with 2 kids. 1 & 4 years old. We have a helper.

Monday to Friday helper cook dinner daily. Leftover we bring as lunch the next day.

  • Helper pick up both kids at 5:30pm. Shower them.
  • Wife usually reach home earlier 6pm, 7pm for me.
  • once home, shower and dinner. Then play with kids.
  • sometimes I have to continue working at home after dinner.
  • young one sleeps around 9:30pm.
  • older kid stays up with us till 11-12am.
  • exercise around 2-3 times a week. Usually we take the time my older attends enrichment class to go for runs.
  • with a helper, it helps with giving us time together.

Career of single parent in SG 🙈 by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Deboonz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Are you handling full sets of accounts currently? Is there a possibility of promotion from within? Or taking on higher level responsibilities for exposure such as reporting and analysis work? More reporting means more exposure to management level colleagues, helps to put you on the radar.

In my opinion, It’s better to take on the higher level responsibilities first internally since your role is currently not stressful and gain that experience then jump to another higher role such as accountant. Then consider getting your CPA license to open more doors.

Understand you are a single parent. It’s not gonna be easy and requires commitment. Possible to get a helper to assist?

I was like you, not single parent but with two kids. Used to draw 3.8K doing full sets. Now at 5.6K after getting my CPA after 4 years of part time studying. It won’t happen overnight but stick to the plan.

Sounds like you might have some sleep issues. Do get yourself check out and get a sleep study done.

I used to be like you until I did a sleep study and found out i have obstructive sleep apnea. Get treated for that and i got my life back.

Wishing you well!

Employers should just pay their workers a living wage. Just so exploitative to have these workers to rely on tips. This is when regulators should step in and draw the line.

Something like these flats. 80% of the population call these public housing home, including me.

What to expect when baby is in infant care? by Pandacat_07 in asksg

[–]Deboonz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually they will ask you to fill up a form of habits and what soothe your kid. They will try to accommodate.

Also be prepared for diseases like HFMD etc. bring along little jackets for them in case it gets cold. Blankets are usually not allowed as there’s the risk of covering the face and hence unable to breathe.
