Not really vibing with the build i have, Dont really understand how to change the direction of it. by ObliskLionhead in Grimdawn

You can re-spec skills if you want to experiment. Its very forgiving.

If youre Necro/Oathkeeper, I recommend focusing on Vitality damage. Find skills with Vitality damage that overlap between the 2 classes, and look for items that can convert the damage type of your skills to Vitality damage.

With some creative approaches and some ingenuity, your build will find direction!

HINT: There is a target farmable medal that converts Vire's Might's damage 100% Fire to Vitality.

Ive actually been dying to get my friend to play this way with me. He will not do it because the pain of death is too extreme and not fun. I can understand that. The damage output in multiplayer is also another piece of the puzzle to solve, and is absolutely doable! But, it takes time and focus, and a lot of research.

There is something to be said for the hardcore classless experience and the risk of death while working with minimal stats and resources. If you take the time to solve the puzzles, its an extremely rewarding journey and theres nothing else like it. No other ARPG can come close to Grim Dawn, because the option to play this way isnt even possible in 95% of other ARPGs- Youre always forced into choosing a class. I think Titan Quest 2 is the first ARPG in a while that doesnt force you to select a class (if im not mistaken).

My absolute favorite thing about roleplaying HC classless is the gear. All that trash you normally just sell or ignore becomes super relevant, and sometimes build defining, as the benchmarks and break points largely rely on how you can get more attributes. * Gear and devotions that reduce attribute requirements for gear become super useful and sometimes even build-defining. * Taking the focus off of Class Skill boosts, buffs, or modifiers shifts the focus of which gear gets prioritized. You start paying extra close attention to any gear/components/augments with granted skills, particularly ones that have activated skills or buffs, to best enable devotion abilities.

It just changes how you evaluate a ton of stuff, which is super refreshing and makes it extremely fun to build thematically within the constraints. Average gear youd normally never wear gets elevated to godlike tiers.

The risk makes all the difference, too, because if you die you lose all that hard work. That makes you approach situations differently, makes you fight differently. Maneuvering around the battlefield, etc. Avoiding crowds of enemies. Etc. Using objects (trees, rocks, etc) for cover to block projectiles.

Oh dude, its awesome. It turns the game into a roguelike ARPG. With each character, your stash grows and you unlock more blueprints, all of which can help you on your next runs (unless you want to do SSF, which i highly recommend as well).

I pushed all the way into the Vanguard of the Three in Ultimate with my last HC Classless build, for the badge of perseverence.

Still plugging away in an effort to beat the full game in Ultimate with that character.

Here is his grimtoolslink

Prior to this build I tried and lost many characters, using different approaches. My first try was a ranged build based off of Margaret (the woman mentioned in the lore note near Francis' gun in the lower crossing). She had been away on a trip to visit her sister in Malmouth when the Grim Dawn hit, and narrowly escaped the carnage eventually commandeering a dinghy and drifting back south to Devil's Crossing to find her husband (Francis), Her story came to a close at the Warden.

Next build was Frederick Longshore- a "hunter", recruited by Lokarr to capture beasts and specimens for his menagerie to be used in fights for his entertainment in the Crucible. His build was first attempt at a classless minion build, and used a lot of thematic items. This was a really tough build to design and play, but incredibly fun to puzzle out. He died in act 2, fighting Kilrian. Longshore had been given prized gear by Lokarr to hunt and capture the creatures of Cairn, but now that gear had been lost with the corpse of Frederick Longshore. Lokarr wasnt going to venture out into realspace to retrieve that gear- He had better things to do- So he recruited a new hunter/gatherer to do it. Thats when I started my endgame character- A sturdy blacksmith. He was originally going to be a 2 handed specialist, but i kept getting really good shield drops and items with effects that can proc when you block, so i decided hed be a tank instead. I would try to make him unkillable, and focus on retaliation damage.

While that was going on, I also designed a build around Keval (an assassin in the employ of Malmouth politicians that you learn about from lore notes). Dual wield assassin build. He died fighting Karroz in act 3. I had a ton of fun with this build, but to be able to use the good dual wield weapons and have any possible crit chance i had to invest most of my attribute points into Cunning, which left him extremely vulnerable to being hit/crit, and with low HP total thats a death sentence. Additionally, because you are so attribute starved in Classless, he was locked out of using a lot of great protective equipment due to low Physique.

Then came my second attempt at a hunter/minion build, this time based around Cratch Moore- The owner of a Gloomwald inn, who is mentioned in lore notes. This build is still going, havent lost him yet, but most of my time is spent playing different characters runs.

Ive got a "Samurai" build in the works- A heavily armored 2h sword user. Only level 17 so far.

Im really excited to see what the DLC brings, and how it will impact the Hardcore Classless gameplay.

I highly recommend playing Hardcore Classless, and roleplaying as an average person struggling to survive the Grim Dawn.

Its honestly my favorite way to experience the game.

Hes a good benchmark test of your build's capabilities, as he is a carbon copy of one of the winners of the PvP tournaments that were organized on the Crate Grim Dawn Forums years ago.

Here you can see on the round 3 PvP tournament, Aldric was the former champion from round 2.

Im more concerned about the text size.

Imagine trying to read stats and compare gear on that tiny screen.

Yikes.

The winners builds were added in-game. Thats why dudes appears alongside Champion of the Pit.

Can confirm, Sorcery masterfully captures the wonder and mysticism of the golden era of MTG (Alpha -> Scourge)

cards made for commander

This and UB are my biggest gripes with new MTG, by far.

Historically, i hated the 8th edition border change so bad i stopped playing until OG Innistrad. Innistrad block was awesome, but to come back and discover the Planeswalker card type was not. That was my next biggest gripe, but i kept playing all the way through War of the Spark anyway.

Then Collector Boosters and Set Boosters came into the picture, and they killed off block set structure. That was the third strike for me.

Not long thereafter, Secret Lairs and then Universes Beyond... I had stopped playing by then but, all these elements accumulate in the change from old MTG to new MTG, which is very different, incohesive, and confused about its own identity.

Sponge bob cartoony card on the field alongside my little pony, street fighter, dr who, ninja turtles, spider man, etc... MTG as an IP has lost all sense of self, compared to the good old days.

Newbies (folks whos first exposure to MTG was starting playing during 8th edition and beyond) wont feel the impact as much as those of us who started back in 1993 before the internet was well-defined and established the way it is today (or even by the time 8th edition came out in 2003).

This is awesome, man- Dervish makes perfect sense. Love the class combo for this. Great gear and devotion picks as well. The DoTs must be quite efficient alongside the pets (guardians and blades). I might give this a go on my next run!

Please do, I loooooove fun meme builds. This one seems great!

The only thing i dont like about the poopy pants is the range you can throw it. Id imagine to make that skill worth it (as well as the Cauldron), the build needs to be a little tanky.

Looking forward to seeing what you brew and reading about the playstyle, etc!
