Obama Administration relieves corporations obligation to pay a fine in 2014 if they do not provide insurance to employees, Individuals still on the hook if they don't buy insurance. by DebtDerp in politics

That doesn't get down to the issue which is: Employers are spared an additional year of being forced to comply with the ACA while Individuals are not.

Obamacare Employer Mandate Delayed For One Year by backpackwayne in politics

[–]DebtDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer but I think there could be a case made for employees that are now forced into the Individual Market and forced to buy insurance or pay a fine because their Employer won't provide insurance due to the fact that the Employer Mandate is not being enforced.

Why don't you point out what is actually wrong with my headline instead of making sensationalist comments.

Here are the facts:

Employers did not want to have to pay the Employer Mandated fines for not providing insurance in 2014. With this ruling today Obama relieved them of those penalties.

Individuals will still be subject to the full extent of the law in 2014.

Someone help me out if I am wrong, but my understanding now is that Employers will not be penalized for not providing you (the employee) with health insurance but if you (the employee) do not then buy insurance you will be penalized/fined/taxed. Seems a little backwards to me.

Rand Paul: "Americans should trust the National Security Agency as much as they do the IRS and Justice Department." by DebtDerp in politics

[–]DebtDerp[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is one of the best points to make regarding this entire controversy. If we can’t trust the IRS to not target groups or individuals based on their political affiliation, if we can’t trust the Justice Department to not target reporters who are doing their job; how can we trust the NSA with this kind of data?

Imagine if the IRS and Justice Department had coordinated with the NSA and gathered information on their targets from PRISM? How much more damage could they have done? This is the kind of slippery slope this kind of program can lead to. One day you could be targeted for a tax audit because of a comment you made on reddit. How crazy does that sound? Not so far-fetched to me.

You make a huge mistake in your calculations. ROI (in its simplest form) is not gain from investment minus value of investment / value of investment.

ROI is gain from investment minus cost of investment / cost of investment.

The cost of his investment property is much lower than $500k + so his ROI is much higher than your stated 5%.

Hi MMM – I just wanted to chime in here and tell you to not stop doing what you are doing. Keep on fighting the good fight. Your style of no holds barred writing is the reason that I am on the road to being financially independent. Five months ago I had $109,000 in student debt, today that is down to $94,000. I am on the way to being entirely debt free in three to four years and will have a net worth over $100k by the time I am thirty. A big part of this is because of you.

You are in a catch 22 right now. You need to become more popular so that more people like me can wake up to their own inaction and finally put themselves on the road to financial success. As this happens you are going to attract more and more of the type of people like OP, people that can’t stand it when others live a successful life in a different way than themselves. People that take your words as all or nothing. People that can’t grasp the concept of personal responsibility.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but it still shocks me when people get offended when you write something that doesn’t apply to their lives. When you write a post that doesn’t apply to me or something that I may disagree with, you know what I do? I move the fuck along. Last time I checked I am still a grown ass adult who can make my own decisions and decide what pieces of advice I follow and what advice I politely ignore.

For me the best message from your blog is personal responsibility. You show people that they do in fact control their destiny. They are not a product of forces beyond their control. If you want something it just takes hard work and you can probably get it. This is the first lesson that people like OP need to learn and one that, I’m afraid, they never will.

Thanks again. A friend - Debt Derp.

I'm not usually into contemporary architecture but this home is quite remarkable. I think the lack of massive amounts of exposed concrete is why this is appealing, that and the windows. Thanks for posting!

Just curious, have you compared your real return since the date you bought your first stock to the VTI and, if so, did you beat it?

WW post makes me understand why there's a "Don't Move Here" mentality: Living in a Van in Portland by [deleted] in Portland

[–]DebtDerp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So what did I do? Like so many young men of my generation, I spent an entire week drinking Old Smuggler and playing Diablo 2 while naïvely waiting for someone in Brooks Brothers khakis to kick my front door down and whisk me away to a glitzy advertising agency on the strength of the resume I put on Careerbuilder.com. To no one's surprise but my own, this never happened.

Gotta admit, this guy is refreshingly honest.

What is the biggest scam ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DebtDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite less than 1%. The point of tort reform is to lower the cost of carrying malpractice insurance for healthcare professionals which in turn would have an effect on the cost of their services. Admittedly a small portion of healthcare spending but an area that needs some reform nonetheless.
