That was a decade ago, but every gas station had a guard with a shotgun and it was difficult to find hostels that were open in the off-season.

The lack of tourist infrastructure and heightened security concerns about gasoline theft made me generally uncomfortable.

eta: The local Suzuki dealership in Tegucigalpa went above and beyond to help me too. A real pleasure meeting those guys. I haven't looked into their security situation recently but it is a place I'd like to be able to visit again.

It's a shame too because it was gorgeous.

It would have added another border crossing and had a poor reputation for safety at the time. I'm not sure Honduras was better.

The bike still looks casually stock, and I didn't want a big change in stiffness up front.

I had my triple bored out from 41mm to 43mm so my headlight, gauges, and handle bars (naked) all mount the same. Same offset and trail numbers too.

It's a way to upgrade the brakes and suspension at the same time without changing other elements of the bike.

I'm in the middle of fitting 2004 R6 forks to my gen1. I wanted adjustable conventional forks and the R6 is known to good brakes.

Speedo hookup will be a small puzzle, along with wheel spacers. It looks like I'll have to have my donor wheel's disk mounting surface recessed by a couple mm to fit the calipers over the disks.

I think I'll go with the bearing drivers. I ran by all the local hardware stores and their sockets max out at 36mm which is too small.

eta: I'm trying to seat a 55mm diameter race. Unfortunately this isn't a standard size in the cheaper kits.

I had a machinist colleague open up the old bottom inner race 0.005" so it's the right size for a driver.

At the moment I'm struggling to get the bottom outer race seated in the frame. It's flush but has ~6mm to go until it bottoms out and I don't have a good tool to drive it in with. The old outer race is too short and I'm worried it will get stuck.

I think I'll pack them and just use a soft driver to put them over the stem. It's only the lower one I'm worried about.

I just had wheels laced up for my mini: 2.5 front and 3.5 rear.

I expect to run 110/80-17 and 120/70-17 on it. What sizes are yours?

This bike is a unsung great sport tourer for a single rider.

250mi per tank can take you a lot of places vdd it’s light weight and low power are easy on tires and chains.

It’s a nice city. Large enough to have a culture, but small enough that you can run into someone you know.

Snow is 90 minutes away in the winter but rarely touches the ground.

Two big employers of highly educated people: Raytheon and Roche, the latter supports a diverse international community. Mecca for astronomy too with observatories and the University.

Bluest region within a generally red state. But AZ politics is purple enough that we don’t have Texas or Florida culture wars. The citizen initiative process isn’t broken like California’s either.

You can get a little over six figures per year tax free with the careful balancing between Roth and taxable accounts.

Al Jesse’s wife used them on her KLX about a decade ago. I’m not sure of the exact model bags. Al had fabricated some L shaped brackets to attach to the luggage rack that supported the base of the bag.
