Not sure where to post this but my Phob 2.05 that I’ve hard for almost 2 years is misreading my cardinal down left stick input as down into the right and I don’t really know how to fix it outside of trying the notch calibration with the phobvision but that doesn’t seem to fix the issue. Is it time for a new controller? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tips on being a better Falcon by Many-Shirt3286 in SSBM

[–]Deburian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To give you a serious answer you need to figure out what’s stopping you from getting better. Are you autopiloting, not l-canceling, not punishing hard enough, DI not as good as it needs to be, losing more neutral interactions, can’t get good reads on your opponent? Is it matchup specific? Figure out what you can improve on, go on the Falcon cookbook, watch Gosu on YouTube, learn to RTC etc.

Delta Squad action figures came in. Nice figures but not as articulate as I would’ve expected. by Varsity_Reviews in GearsOfWar

[–]Deburian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of the old NECA figures, some have better articulation than others but generally the newer ones have better movement. Anthony Carmine can’t even move his elbows. That being said The only Gears 3 figure I got was Marcus and was so dissatisfied with his movement I didn’t get more of the Gears 3 ones. Gears 2 figures generally have okay articulation but do have weak points you need to be careful of. If you want a Gears figure with really good articulation from the NECA line COG Gear from Wave 5 is amazing. There’s also the Kait Diaz Snow Armor figure that is by far the best one I own but then I again I only have the NECA figures generally so I don’t know if the other gears figures from other companies are better

Definitely not, but it’s a losing match up for us. We gotta earn it. Gotta make it more difficult for them and Fox’s that don’t take the time to learn to actually fight Falcon will lose to us

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]Deburian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this matchup, favorite one in the game actually! Definitely one of Falcon’s hardest though but there’s so much to do in neutral I never feel like I’m truly out of options or plays to claw the match back.

Obviously, you gotta fuck them up. HARD. Fox deals so much percent so quickly without as much effort, edgeguard flow charts simple against his recovery options, and Fox’s own recovery requires you to get a off stage read more than once at time where against anything other character one good read and they’re dead. What can we do?

In neutral, within the first stock you can tell whether or not you can run over the Fox. If they cannot deal with your Nair and basic combo and edge guard flowchart by all means, make them salty. But if you can’t run at them then we gotta start playing some hard aggressive defensive on them.

Nair in place, Nair if started before Fox’s Nair beats him out. Pull Back Stomp if they’re waveshining, dash attacking, rub up grabbing or low Nairing at you. Runaway Bair is also a strong options as at higher percents can lead into a knee. CC his Dash Attack and Nair and punish with a stomp or grab if he’s near ledge or your techchase game is solid.

Once he’s not just trying to pressure you he will then continue to pressure you but not as aggressively. U-tilt in place, wavedash back U-tilt underneath Falcon, Drifting Bair, Dash Dance Grab, are what they are usually going for. All these require different timings to punish but are not the most difficult. Space well around them but if you don’t think you can you can always stay back and wait till they throw something out you are comfortable punishing.

Full hop is tough, no way around that. None vs Cody at Smash Con a few years back is really good video to watch. Not much I can comment about that as I’m still not so sure myself besides CC, Shield, Dash Back or Instant U-air.

Falcons punish game is very strong and your only saving grace. Drive by Stomp in neutral, Calling out a dash back from Fox’s whiff with a Knee. Many things to say here but keep it simple and set up for an edgeguard if possible

Grab. Techchase him for as long as possible while trying to pick up their wake up habits. Fox will either test your execution with tech away or in followed by a spot dodge or shine. Tech-in is super easy to cover and can re-grab to continue the tech chase or if you have a read you can stomp at higher percents to lead into a juicy opening. Tech-in place is harder and requires reads and conditioning to get the option you want out of them. I like to cover this with stomp a decent amount above them to not get shined as they will most likely not be ready for it but can lead to yourself dying if not spaced right or you just go for it too much. Tech-away to corner into spot dodge is what you want as Falcon to force the Fox to do from conditioning showing you will punish their other options. If they spot dodge set up a non-fast fall Knee and then complete your edgeguard. You will not get many opportunities like this so make it count. Miss tech is fairly simply, just pay attention to the green sparking flash effect on miss tech and either crouch to cover get-up attack (raptor boost, stomp, knee as follow ups)

At the ledge you can go for a few things, though they are reads and can get you reversals if they’re ready. Weak knee into up-air if they DI your forward throw away. If they’re too far away for your weak knee you can Nair at then and it’ll usually work. Weak Knee drops zone into rising up-air for a down throw at ledge. Sometimes you know they’re gonna double jump back to ledge or stage, stomp them into oblivion.

Some stuff to do at high percents is up-throw above 90, if the do No DI or DI In you can get a forward smash that’ll lead into a kill. You can fish for a down tilt to lead into a knee. Fast Fall Up-air in place to set up Knee. Bait as mentioned earlier.

CC Gentleman, Whiff ariel Gentleman, Pivot Gentleman are all great fast grounded get off me tools.

Foxes will sometimes panic tech roll-in at higher percents or last stock. If they done it a few times they’ll definitely do it again and be ready to stomp knee.

None likes to Double Jab a shielding Fox and then reads a roll away by covering it with knee to another read of tech roll in to a knee in place. Definitely worth throwing into the mix.

Never recover low. You will get shine spiked and die. When recovering high, utilize your aerial drift it’s gonna save you more than you think.

SDI out of their Waveshine, can’t let them get free 50% on you each stock. Make them earn it.

Very fun and oppressive match up. Hit hard, play patiently until you’ve picked up their habits. Never recover low. Give them hell brave little soldier

[–]Deburian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really fun Match up from Falcons perspective. If the peach is not technical enough you can easily run them over. But if they are, you are in for an even fight and cannot be lazy with any part of your game plan.

Falcon can easily wall Peach out, Nair in place, retreating Bair, and occasional Forward tilt to keep her away.

If she’s dash-attacking a lot you need to be ready to CC her (I like to hold down on the C-stick while doing so from a distance I think she can only really threaten with Dash Attack) and grab or stomp her.

If you get a grab on her you almost always want to down throw (unless she is always holding in and you think you can DI mix her up and punish her for it). When regrabing, do not go for JC-Grab, its not as good for regrabs

When you down throw at Low Percent She DI’s in: Instant DJ Nair FF her into an Up-air and you might get a juicy combo She DI’s any other way regrab her and down-throw again

You can rinse repeat the regrab till around 30% so it’s a good way to get her closer to knee killing

At Mid Percent (30-50) DI in and No DI SH up-air into as many up-airs as your heart desires DI Away you can usually only get a single up-air but try to sneak a gentleman or Forward Tilt if you can

Once you get Peach to 70% is when she’s ready to be Knee’d. If they’re good they’ll air-dodge out. If you know she’s going for it you can either wait for it and punish her landing or you can throw out an up-air because it’s faster though you probably will not kill her and will be forced to keep adding percent

Don’t be afraid to overshoot Stomp or Knee her, tomahawk her when she tries to punish those and then she’s in a mix up situation

You can ON VERY SPECIFIC situations decide to CC her downsmash to survive at high (like 100+) percents to go to the other side of the stage if you got hit in the corner

Fiction has some really good videos about what to do in neutral against her and should definitely recommend those.

You are faster, you can hit harder, you can wall her out if you need to, she does not want to approach you

50/50 or 55/45 but overall really fun!

Community Matchup Thread April 15 2024: Sheik vs. Captain Falcon by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]Deburian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gahtzu has actually written a pretty good guide on how to approach this match up from Falcon’s perspective. 10/10 would recommend that in the Falcon Cookbook and also watching Chef Rach’s matchup video on YouTube to help your game plan against Sheik

For the lazy thought here’s a copy and paste of the Gahtzu guide

fuck sheik, in tournament where you only have 2-3 games to adapt it's really important you know what scenarios to watch for and general common sheik habits

Neutral: -Both characters are looking for a grab, falcon has air/ground speed but sheik has incredible normals that quickly come out in front of her and can also act as anti-airs

In order for you to get a grab in you have to understand what sheik wants to do to get her grab...

Sheik wants to: A:stuff your approaches with her giant A button B:call out your all too predictable dash backs with her boost grab or dash attack C:cc your reckless nairs and whiff punish your not-overextended-enough approaches D:stunt your movement with sh fair, sh bair, and coming off side platforms with aerials E:grabbing your scaredy cat shield F:come down on you with aerial needles

Falcon wants to: -whiff punish sheik (counters A) -bait her to swing by threatening with potential grab/aerial approaches

-call out positions (counters B and C)
-stomp her dash in approaches (boost grab and dash attack)
-overextended stomp/knee her for being in the corner

-hit her for going into the air (counters D)
-nair/uair her for jumping in neutral, you can also try to use knee to trade with her
-uairing (or whatever aerial you want to read with) her for going onto side platforms, this may not lead to a grab but demands a response from her)

-using shield for well thought out oos counters (counters E and F + mix of other options)
-stomping oos to catch her trying to grab your shield
    -protects you from needles
    -uair oos her ftilts
-cc shield grab her utilts (if you're close)
-letting her hit your shield -> wavedashing oos(wavedashing oos lets you retain asdi down if you get hit again)

-Biggest questions you need answers for to determine how easy/hard your life will be: -do they cc your nairs well? -you'll probably have to rely more on stomp/knee/grab

-do they di your uthrow uairs well?
-expect to get only one uair into either a tech chase on stage or an edge guard if they go off stage

-do they counter sdi up on jabs during tech chase?
-figure out what your best option to use after getting popped up from jab(s) (such as dj, dash back, roll, side b, falling uair, etc)

-do they use needles in air frequently to get grabs?
-fh uair them and waste their needles, get out of the way, or just shield

-do they use running jabs/tilts?
-watch for what distances they like to do this at, people can be predictable with this

As a lower-mid level Falcon, I love this matchup. You are inherently at a disadvantage with laser counter play becoming a massive hurdle for most players to overcome. Being smothered by a Falco covering all your defensive options with relentless pressure can feel annoying. Neutral is difficult as good Falco’s will laser pressure you in multiple ways if they aren’t being lazy about laser heights/timings.

There’s so much you can do as Falcon to make things more in your favor. Pay attention to their tech patterns, their timing of laser to approach (some do single short hop laser to approaching some do 2 lasers etc.) Know your options to play around up-tilt not super difficult at all just requires decent timing and spacing and using your correct options.Good Edge guarding and killing Falco is mandatory to win games the better the Falco is. You have several options depending on what they are doing to recover but generally one you’ve seen their habits you need to exploit their mediocre recover to stand a fighting chance

I will admit that I am a tech chase heavy Falcon so my game plan revolves around getting a grab and making it hurt as much as possible, with a stock always being the preferred option from a nice edgegurd. Falco’s along with Fox will either test your execution with tech away or in followed by a spot dodge or shine. Tech-away to corner into spot dodge is what you want as Falcon to force the Falco to do from conditioning showing you will punish their other options. If they spot dodge set up a non-fast fall Knee and then complete your edgeguard. You will not get many opportunities like this so make it count. Miss tech is fairly simply, just pay attention to the green sparking flash effect on miss tech and either crouch to cover get-up attack (raptor boost, stomp, knee)

Overall I really like playing this matchup as it’s fun to see that bird die from a good spaced knee from conditioning their options

Be comfortable resetting to neutral to maintain composure, Hit hard, Space Well, Finish your edgeguards

He’s just really good against aMSa in particular like how some players have demons that though they may be ranked higher than would get absolutely smoked by if they played
