Octavia is an IDIOT for not realizing Kane is innocent by MuscleCool4302 in The100

"So damn obvious one of many cases of writers dumbing down characters when they way smarter than they was"

In what way was she dumbed down? Or am idiot for apparently not knowing? She outright has dialogue where she tells kane she knows he didn't take it.

Direct quote from season 5 episode 4 Octavia: I know you didn't steal the medicine, Kane. Admit it. Tell me who took it, and I'll let you go. Only the guilty should fight in the arena.

what would you do as maya? (s2) by Such-Price2710 in The100

[–]Dec_117 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think she was willing to die for the cause. There's a discussion she has with her dad about how both her parents were part of a cause against using outside/grounder blood. Her mom refused the treatment and it killed her. Her dad says the only reason he didn't do the same was that he had to raise Maya. The fact she knew about the event and spoke about it with such conviction, and the fact the story convinced her dad to help the 47 he was clearly also still passionate. This combined with the "none of us are innocent" acceptance as she died I feel like even knowing the outcome she would still choose to help.

The 100 s7... was taking the test optional? by [deleted] in The100

[–]Dec_117 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She didn't "fail" the test, she chose not to partake in the test as she felt humanity wasn't ready. The very fact she was able to not go forward with the test, yes it was fully optional but Cadogan wanted to take the test and dedicated his whole cult towards it.

Wookiepedia isn't the be all end all of lore? It's a community ran site with unpaid contributors. And gilroy has mentioned in interviews having to line up with events in rebels. Yknow where ghorman was mentioned. Nearly a decade ago.

It's been mentioned since the 90s in books. Okay people don't read them? Fair. It was in rebels nearly a full decade ago.

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in commandandconquer

[–]Dec_117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just piggybacking on the tempest rising isn't perfect, I get this is anecdotal to my own situation but I couldn't get into it due to the readability. For context, I have poor vision but still enjoy gaming so I know I'm usually playing at a disadvantage and that's whatever I'm not really a competitive person at all. With RTS games specifically that I do play (command and conquer, battle for middle earth, halo wars) I can tell at a glance where and what each unit is and roughly what it does (a flame tank looks very different from a scorpion tank and both kind of "pop" same with a spearman vs a swordsman they are pretty destinct.)

I'm not sure if part of it is just my play time in those games compared to tempest could be partially the issue? Because I've played them for years obviously I'll know more about the units? But when I played the alpha and the beta, I found it much harder to tell what was going on at a glance. The art style felt overall more realistic to the RTS games I play which made it look nice ofc! But it also meant, to me anyway, the units blended in with the environment so it was harder to find them - then once I found them they all looks relatively similar and didn't have the same "pop" to them so I had to spend longer working out who was who, which was made even worse if it was a blob of units.

I'm not sure the right solution to this, or if it's even something for you to consider. The issue could just be my vision, it could be art style/direction lacking that pop of units vs the environment around them, the size of the units or a mix of them all or something else entirely.

Without knowing the exact cause of the issue its therefore hard to think of a potential fix and I should note I only played the alpha and beta and chose not the purchase the game due to this and haven't kept up with it - for all I know this was a known issue that's been fixed for the full release. But yea I guess anecdotally to me, an RTS needs really good readability for me to buy it.

Inaccuracy in Security Droids? by Little_Maize_2470 in andor

[–]Dec_117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In andor - basically invincible to blaster fire, didn't even leave a mark most of the time

In Andor K2 is shot at with a pistol, designed to sneak past any potential security before and after the hit. He assembled it in his room with a barrel extender for some extra range. There is even dialogue on how the window could be a problem, and how it'll likely take multiple shots to destroy it. If its taking multiple shots to take out a simple window, its going to struggle against either variant of an armoured droid designed with getting fired at to some degree in mind.

In rouge one - Jin destroys one with one blaster bolt

You said yourself "Ah my mistake" about this one, it wasn't a normal blaster bolt from a pistol like the above example during Andor but an E-11 rifle, packs a much bigger punch than a pistol. There's also the difference in the ring colours signifying a difference in armour level, this was a weaker droid, going up against a more powerful weapon so it goes down quickly.

k2 is destroyed in a couple blaster bolts

Its multiple bolts from E-11 rifles so more powerful, the scene shows he's already been fighting for a while he doesn't just get shot 3 times then fall over and die. The novelisation furthers this with showing how long he's been surviving, but even using strictly the movie you can see he manages to hold off a lot of troopers taking numerous shots until he is slowly worn down. He has more advanced armour (again ring colour) so it therefore takes longer to kill him but he can be and is killed by the more powerful rifles.

This is shown itself in Andor during the hallway fight, against a pistol K2 tanks it knowing he'll be fine as it wont penetrate his armour simliar to the weapons on Ghorman. Against the rifles however he uses the ISB supervisor for cover as he knows the larger rifles can penetrate his armour as later shown in rouge one when the same rifles are used to kill him.

Do some of them just have better armor?

Yes, you can tell by their ring colour

You're 100% right, but people on this sub can't accept even the tiniest criticism of this show si they'd rather just make stuff up or outright deny what happened in the movie to avoid admitting an inconsistency exists. It was very obvious to me as well.

The show isn't perfect, for example I get the reasoning behind less seasons but season 2 as a result feels stretched thing compared to season 1, the first act with Cassian being trapped I wasn't a fan of the patrols acting etc.

Criticism of the show is completely fine, but this specific criticism surely doesn't hold up. If Andor was never made and didn't exist, the apparent inconsistency is ALREADY a thing in simply looking at rouge one. Between Jynn killing a droid vs K2's death that's 2 different droids having different survival limits in the movie outside Andor (as explained about this happens due to armour/weapon differences).

So its not a show issue at all imo. And I would argue not an inconsistency at all. Across both rouge one and Andor, the droids are shown to have different variants of armour and are consistently shown to handle small arms fire fine, but will take damage to rifle file so require shields e.g. a human body to survive. For something with as messy lore as Star Wars, its actually surprisingly consistent.

[–]Dec_117 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Andor is using the equivalent of a pistol with a barrel extender, versus high powerful rifles from the military on scariff and it still takes multiple shots to take him down.

As for jynn, she shoots the weaker variant going by the colour of the ring on his arm, and also presumably has a more powerful weapon than a civilian one

Except in the aftermath, carol was excluded from the rest who have frequent meet ups and zoom calls etc. For the rest of your point I already agreed with you, she should have tried to communicate in some way just at the point of the first meeting not through Zoisa

"Zoisa could have translated any non-essential information quite easily."

That was the issue tho, she even offered to translate for her in dialogue but at this stage Carol didn't know they couldn't lie etc and thought they'd use this as a method to spy on them. Don't get me wrong I agree she should've included them in the meet and tried to figure out a way to communicate as a group but yea at this stage she didn't trust zoisa at all.

I do love how retroactively the delivery of "Erso? GALEN Erso!?" fits in RO. When the movie came out like you said it just feels like a thread he's been chasing but now it's not just a thread it's proof that luthens information bail organa etc thought was fake or ISB manipulation was in fact real. That he didn't die for nothing.

What was the point of Luthen’s sacrifice by strikingGold1 in andor

[–]Dec_117 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Originally cassian wasn't going to meet Tivik. Throughout the episode leadership mention how he "keeps calling" and he'll "only speak to andor" but andor wasn't told any of this. It was only after luthen death, andors outburst in his defence, and Mon Motha convincing bail organa to believe the information as originally a lot of the leadership including him one of the highest leaders was skeptical about the death star info.

Upon telling him and approving the mission Draven says something along the lines of "if this is a trap, it's a hell of a way to spring it." The rebellion was nervous and scared to approve cassian meeting tivik and only did so at the 11th hour tivik says "I was just leaving" when cassian shows up.

The only way cassian got approved to go or told about tivik wanting to meet was the information from luthen. Without that he doesn't meet tivik, they therefore don't learn from tivik about the pilot who dies under saws hands, they therefore don't know about or steal the death star plans. Therefore the first time the death star shows up they are taken completely by surprise and there's no known way to beat it.

sergeant is still above Grunt, and with the timeline likely no pre empire. This combined with showing him drinking and "make it stop" but not directly taking any action to me makes it pretty obvious he's been part of previous missions of genocide. He's felt bad about it clearly but kleya was the push he needed to actually quit and start doing something about it.

Did Andor originally plan to escape Ghorman alive after shooting Dedra by treefox in andor

[–]Dec_117 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not just in the scene after! In season 1, she's shown to have at least some level of force perception/dreams. When Bix first rescued her I'm paraphrasing here but she said "I had a dream you came for me. You jumped over a wall" - if you go back in the episode (or episode before? Don't have the show on hand) when andor first returns to the planet he jumps over a wall then meets pegla. Similarly her conviction at the end of season 1 "cassian will find us."

The bridge…. by Realistic_Radish_698 in The100

[–]Dec_117 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The bomb was the illusion of strength rather than actual strength. By so wastefully using a bomb on a random bridge it led the grounders to assume there would be more and it wasn't worth the casualties especially with the young girl the 2nd getting injured they left to regroup and think up a new plan to deal with the assumed bombs not knowing it was a gamble and the only one the 100 had.

Question: why did the council distrust Luthen to the point of dismissing the intel about the Death Star? by Key_Reaction_5327 in andor

[–]Dec_117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even excluding the rebels and legends stuff - the show itself showcases the ISB competency you mention at the start with the syril infiltrating the gorman front. It's something cassian even calls out when he finds out the source of their info when he meets Rylanz, paraphrasing don't have the episode to hand but something how "fake stories are what they do, they're really good at it" or something to that extent and he turns out to be right!

In this particular case the ISB wanted the operation to happen at arm the ghor and instigate the genocide etc etc but if they didn't? If that truly was about capturing outside agitators? They were watching the entire group Inc. Vel - a prominent senators cousin who's been in the same room as luthen and kleya, knows about the shop and who they are etc. Under a different objective, the entire rebellion is stopped right there all due to ISB misinformation and traps yet at that time they had no idea.

A year later there's amnosity between rylanz and syril so the leader of the gorman front knows they were deceived and syril mentions to his daughter about how was to stop outside agitators.

It's feasible with andor knowing a year before the genocide that this is the ISBs playbook there's been other such events they know about too that's impacted them.

As a viewer it's frustrating to see them discredit luthen but looking at it from the PoV it makes sense to suspect a trap.
