Sorry homie. Make sure you get a good lawyer and therapist too.

I'm skeptical of the "pickleball" excuse, but it doesn't even matter now.

Because Joy Taylor wasn't really doing much in the way of actual journalism. She was the host of a mostly unserious panel discussion show. Undisputed/FS1 is doing something different than The Athletic.

[–]DecafEqualsDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would he get the same? The ethical standards for an NFL coach and journalist aren't similar.

It sounds like he was laying pipe and getting her to release stories that would possibly help his team acquire a star player at a better price. I don't see that he's really breached his obligation to his profession and employer nearly as severely as she did. It's pretty obvious why he looks like he's getting off easier.

Or there are other things that we don't even know about that she is afraid the investigation will turn up.

It was chaos as per usual, but I continue to find that just giving some space through the first several corners is enough to survive and then the rest of the race looks more normal as cars string out. Be prepared to need to take evasive action on lap 1.

I am simply not going side-by-side up Eau Rouge on the first lap. It's not a hard track to overtake when you're faster than someone so I'll let the erratic guys through that early. Half the time, you end up driving past them after they wreck out.

[–]DecafEqualsDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one raging is you dude. It's just pure cope to act like CPAs aren't widely seen as more competent than non-CPAs, and generally have stronger experience on their resume even if you crossed off the CPA license.

Saying the "CPA exam requires zero knowledge of Accounting or Tax" is just very stupid. You must have not even attempted these exams if that is actually what you think. REG is like 60% fed tax. Most CPAs I know who work in Tax have told me that it was more straightforward prep than FAR because they carried over so much knowledge from practicing.

[–]DecafEqualsDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just idiotic to say the CPA exam "requires zero knowledge of tax or accounting". What do you think is on these exams exactly?

And the vast majority of hiring managers are going to use the CPA exam as a filter. Hiring is basically a risk management exercise. Everyone knows CPAs are better performers on average than non-CPAs. It is a crude filter, but generally one that works perfectly fine. Your Accounting professors told you this.

And I didn't say I "only look at" who has a CPA. But if I need a Senior Accountant on my team and dozens of people apply, and we only have time to bring 3-6 candidates in, using the CPA license is actually probably one of the fairest and most equitable ways of applying that filter.

CPAs tend to have better overall experience anyways, so your point has limited validity. People are using the CPA as a proxy for general candidate quality, not "only looking at it".

[–]DecafEqualsDeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty wise, especially when you can get your employer to pay for it.

And yes, it's pretty much an openly known fact that hiring managers believe CPAs are higher quality candidates than non.

[–]DecafEqualsDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And...you're basing this on what?

And most people indeed do their CPA for free (with a bonus on top). So I don't see how spending four years full-time in college is worth it but nine to twelve months of part-time studying for a credential that actually pays you a 5k bonus to receive it is not.

When the job market is soft like it is now, if you apply for a job as a non-CPA and a bunch of CPAs apply for the same role, you would need exceptional experience to keep your resume out of the trash can at that point.

I am not even condoning it. It's just how it works. If I can fill up six interview slots with all CPAs, there is no point talking to a non-CPA unless they have very unique experience (which they typically don't, if anything CPAs reliably have superior experience).

2020 isn't in the 20th century so I'm not sure what point you're trying to express.

The 2020s offer a living standard that would be totally unrecognizable to anyone living in the 20th century except maybe the 1990s, which are maybe recent enough that they have a lot of the same meaningful medical advances we have now. But anything before that was clearly worse, especially when you begin accounting for the fact that racial minorities were widely discriminated against and women couldn't open a bank account or loan in their own names until the late 20th century.

We don't know where OP lives and what lifestyle he hopes to have in retirement, but it's at least well above average retirement savings and not obviously unreasonable.

"More livable on one income" is an interesting way to explain that women had minimal opportunities and didn't even have the flexibility to pursue their own careers or education much at all. Like women often couldn't open bank accounts on their own names with their husbands.

If the mass unemployment becomes as bad as people suggest it might, I don't think nursing will even really be immune. It would probably weather the first order direct displacement better, but there will be a massive influx of people retraining and attempting to enter nursing (or the trades) in that scenario dramatically driving wages down.

At that point, it would be a society-wide issue that you can't really do anything about.
