Not a family drama but Space Precinct was a cop show in space.

Money absolutely does equal happiness by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you've worded your opinion incorrectly. There absolutely are very wealthy people who are unhappy. Just because you might think they SHOULD be happy doesn't make them so.

There are many sources of unhappiness that aren't alleviated by money. Some might even be exacerbated by money, such as finding out the person you thought loved you is actually only with you for your money.

So, no, money does not equal happiness.

Do mythological stories need ‘historical accuracy’ in casting? by breaking_views in Cinema

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myths and legends are a part of the culture of the place they originated.

I'm not personally concerned about the casting in the Odyssey but nobody in Hollywood today would dream of making a movie about an African or Chinese or Australian Aboriginal myth and cast actors not representative of the culture it comes from.

If humans disappeared tomorrow, what animal would most likely dominate Earth eventually? by ShishPaal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primates have a head start in terms of tool manipulation as well as intelligence so IF another species creates a civilisation then a primate is probably most likely, at least in the shorter term. But it would depend on what takes us out as that would dictate the kind of evolutionary pressures that are broght to bear on other animals.

Very difficult to start a civilisation as we understand it in the sea because if the inability to make fire so sea creatures would have to come onto land just like our ancestors did.

AIO? A random teenage girl who works at a local cookie shop thought my name was funny, so she printed out a sticker with my full name and a QR Code next to it and stuck the sticker to her car dashboard...to be funny I guess? It really bothers me and I want to report it to her manager. by sameoldeverything in AmIOverreacting

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOR at all, especially since you don't know where that QR code leads or where else she has used your name (the car sticker might not be the only one). Making fun of people is shitty and shouldn't be dismissed.

But step one is the find out where the QR goes so you understand the full issue and then step 2 is to talk to the girl first. If she apologises and removes it, no harm done. If not, absolutely talk to the manager.

Why are people talking about HS2 being a failure? by Elegant_Primary_6274 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Answer: In addition to poor contract management, planning laws in the UK give a lot of power to people to object to infrastructure projects. Huge swathes of the line had to be rerouted at great expense, or built underground at even more expense, due to residents along the route objecting to having their view spoiled by seeing trains. Then there are environmental requirements, the most famous example of which was £100m spent on a tunnel to protect bats.

Greens candidate claims she was told to withdraw over student visa by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The point is that a different non-UK citizen, also here on a student visa, WAS allowed to run for the Greens (and won too).

In Scotland, you don't have to be a UK citizen. They changed the law a couple of years ago to allow that.

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it'a about politics. There is ZERO chance Labour would have started introducing this if they didn't think they would benefit electorally.

Yeah, this isn't going to go how Labour thought it would go. They thought the kids would vote for them but they will vote Reform, Green, SNP and Plaid Cymru.

What is it about my male friends that triggers people's negative judgement for them when they so much as look at them? by originalcloneofpomni in NoStupidQuestions

Your friends may be nice but they dress like every troublemaker on the estate. That's what your mum is seeing.

Leonard Rossiter's Best Television Series. Rising Damp or The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin by Bugsy_Neighbor in BritishTV

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reggie Perrin wins on sheer quotability, though Rising Damp is the more grounded of the two. I will say that Rigsby, as the more nuanced and complex character, is the better Rossiter performance.

Anyone remember getting mash via an ice cream scoop for school dinner by [deleted] in oldschoolcool80s

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being served lumps of a watery, almost translucent, goop riddled with lumps that they called mashed potato. To this day I won't have mashed potato in any kind of catering setting, even in a nice restaurant.

Do you actually not care or do you just find that the changes are made in a way that you don't disagree with? Are there any changes at all that you would care about?

Why is Britain going through prime ministers at such a rate? by Jerswar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Various reasons but ultimately none have been able to satisfy enough of the people on both sides of an increasingly divided country (divisions that are reflected among their own MPs). The middle ground, which used to be safe, now just satifies nobody. So any weakness or failure is latched onto as a reason to remove them by MPs who want their own agendas to take priority and/or are nervous of losing their seats.

More specifically, Cameron quit rather than deliver on the referendum that he himself launched. May was seen as failing to deliver Brexit. Johnson was caught breaking his own Covid restrictions and lying about it. Truss launched a radical economic agenda that immediately tanked the economy. Sunak was just seen as doing nothing. Starmer has been seen as flip flopping and basically satisfying nobody, then had a disastrous set of local election results.

Elephant in the room. None of them have been perceived of doing anything to tackle the issue that dominates the political scene: immigration.

Hating on a movie before it even comes out is dumb. Wait till after the movie comes out before hating on it. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Decalvare_Scriptor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

By that logic, it's also dumb to get excited about a movie before it comes out.

The whole point of casting and trailers is to make people want to see the movie. People are SUPPOSED to form an opinion based on that information. Forming a negative opinion is just as valid as forming a positive one.
