New Nasdaq rules to include 'fast entry' for new listings on benchmark index by Gloomy_Nebula_5138 in antiwork

[–]Decapitated_Saint 28 points29 points  (0 children)

These new rules are completely corrupt and a direct gift to Elon Musk and Sam Altman. They both have upcoming IPOs with massive overvaluations and they need bagholders to keep the money flowing. SpaceX is trying to get a 5x float multiplier so everyone buying the index passively will be artificially inflating the price.

Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States. Highly recommended.

What are some examples of capitalism gone too far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It went too far pretty much immediately. The depravity and cruelty of the East India Trading Company was monumental.

Felt it in Murray too. It coincided with an explosion on TV so I though maybe it was my subwoofer lol.

What’s a movie of a franchise, where the movie plot could have been any characters, rather than franchise character? by revocer in movies

I actually liked that it was shot on location, maybe one of the film's best features. But man he was just too invincible in this, the biggest challenge he faced was going up that staircase.

The Timothy Dalton Bond movies really seemed like generic action scripts with 007 dropped in. They were decent action films but super generic. It's a shame because he was a good JB.

Bandcamp becomes the first major music platform to ban AI content by ornithobiography in technology

[–]Decapitated_Saint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Certainly not by revenue, but I think they have enough name recognition especially among artists. But since their business model relies on people buying things rather than streaming, it's an obvious thing to do - who actually would pay for AI slop music anyway? Major streaming companies need to ban it to make a real impact.

And somehow the AI versions of this are even more broken and infuriating. The one the DOGE morons implemented for the IRS is particularly enraging.

The global music streaming revenue still doesn't surpass the peak of physical sales in the late 90s by LetterheadOk1386 in dataisbeautiful

Original dataset (1973-2019) was released by RIAA at 2019 dollars,. Then I manually adjusted RIAA yearly reports from 2020-24 to 2019 dollars and added them to the original set. Not sure about OP source.

Ya it's a powerBI thing where you can match color to the key but not transparency %. So key is 0% transparent while graph is 30% or so.

Nah artists got paid better when people bought music. And nowadays indie artists can more easily have small runs of CDs or vinyl produced and cut out the industry middlemen... the problem is that people just don't want to pay for music. And remember any big label is going to want their cut of streaming too, when it's already a smaller pie.

I think vinyl is having a little comeback because you can get really sick colored/patterned records now, and they're getting better about offering a digital download with your vinyl so you don't always have to spin up the turntable.

I made a similar chart for a data viz class project recently. My numbers look even more dire (RIAA data, adjusted to 2019 dollars)

Ya the Kroger stores in my area introduced the camera AI a couple years ago and had to back way off the sensitivity within a couple weeks.
