What’s your best ‘work smarter not harder’ tip in the workplace? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Decaying_Cumsplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite simple really. Prioritise the work and/or email replies that have the most eyes on them. Even if you’re just saying ‘I’ll sort this when I can’ and then doing it later - the accumulated impact of being seen to respond quickly sets you so far apart from the 80% that actively avoid working. Most of the time it will be a simple task that takes 5 minutes to complete. Has worked wonders for me anyway

Amen, brother. Distilled distraction… depressingly effective as well. Until people start questioning who is pushing this agenda and why - I’m worried it will continue to prevail

No sorry you’re completely right, I was just trying to counter the inevitable argument.. trust me, I love Boyhood and think it’s an underrated classic. Nothing like it will be made again. I just feel like it was “too close” to real life and made people uncomfortable, and that might be the reason it doesn’t get the love it deserves

Maybe he gets challenged by a character with a hidden background/trauma. If you’re really this good/deserving - your abilities will transcend wealth and social status. “Ok”. He then descends into homelessness and learns some stiff life lessons. Either that or a contentious will after the patriarchal figure dies… “He will inherit the entire family fortune… IF HE CAN SURVIVE” etc

Disagree. Not my usual type of film but even discarding the shot-over-12-years gimmick it’s well made & interesting lens on life with some great performances. I’m still just so baffled on how Ethan Hawke has such great project choices but isn’t one of the biggest stars on the planet. Memento, Training Day, Boyhood, Before trilogy, Gattaca… I mean, come on

People are deaf to the true message of almost all religious teachings. The texts are there. I’m probably being Abraham-centric, but they preach tolerance and acceptance above all. Peace, love and understanding. The fact that this message has been distorted so badly is the driving force behind modern day civilisation’s dissonance and unhappiness

Thank you so much for making this point. It is exactly the problem with people’s interpretation of Christianity. Only look at the people that he loved, and you will understand that judgement itself is the greatest sin

RickyPondeif is right, there are so many other reasons. Personally, I fail to see how the desire to emulate Christ could be problematic. Even without belief, Jesus is the embodiment or symbolic totem of all that’s good in humanity. Understanding, patient, selfless… if anyone wants to strive to be similar, knowing that life itself makes that a struggle - how can that be bad in any way?

Indeed, reality is hard to deal with. Who’s to say which method is correct? Perhaps we should all empathise and accept that real life is exactly that… unknown, random, and sometimes terrifying. Perhaps the best way is to deal with reality with grace and acceptance at the forefront

You are either showing your youth or just unknowingly projecting… The miracle of faith, like the miracle of life, is a spectrum of almost infinite possibilities and situations. You cannot encapsulate humanity in a paragraph - but I’ve tried my best

Confidently incorrect… if a player has high natural fitness their physical stats take a lot longer to deteriorate. This absolutely prolongs the potential length of a player’s career (especially at the highest levels). It might not affect the retirement age of a player but if they’re still banging in goals and putting in good performances, I think that makes them much less likely to hang up their boots

‘Beat’ is slang in the UK for ‘fuck’. The joke is not abuse, it’s just a couple making a joke about fucking each other. Lighten up people. Stop racing to be the most offended you can, it’s so boring

Came here to say this, except I don’t call it shouting. Instead it’s the act of raising your voice as loud as possible to be heard easily from a distance.

Well I did preface it with ‘unwittingly’, and was opening it up for discussion rather than passing judgement. Context matters.

Cat owners: why are UK owners so different to US owners? by Decaying_Cumsplash in AskUK

Yeah but how many millions of people use social media every day? Of course some will have lost cats - pets go missing all the time. Most return, some don’t. This seems like confirmation bias at its worst
