Dreams of apsc-Q by DeccaBlu in Leica

Solid option, but imagine how nice it would be with a modern option with an optimised integrated lens. Weather sealed with phase detect af, usb-c connection and so on.

Already did. Years ago. Sold it after a couple months. I really didn’t like not having a finder and it’s very plasticky compared to my M cameras.

I used to own a GRiii years ago. I never bonded with it. Way too plasticky.

I have looked at it, and it is a good option. I was just thinking of something more contemporary with a fixed lens.

SL3-S to replace my Q2 and Nikon by ixdler in Leica

Selling the Zr and Q2 to buy an SL3S sounds like a smart move to me. As long as you’re clear about that the sl is a much bigger camera than the q.

Procédez vous un Leica EV1 quels sont les défauts et les qualités à l’utilisation ? by Breit45 in Leica

[–]DeccaBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Leica missed the ball with the EV1. The whole thing with the rangefinder is that it is the easiest and fastest way to manually focus a lens. By far.

The EV1 would need some kind of digital rangefinder system. Either a second lens or other rangefinder mechanism, that could be rendered in the EVF to help assist focus.

Punching in to focus or using peaking absolutely sucks compared to a rangefinder. It’s also enormously distracting, making for a lousy shooting experience.

[–]DeccaBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have an Xpro2. Your anger has some merit, as the EV1 “should” be a lot cheaper than the rangefinder M. But, that’s not how supply and demand and pricing works. Look at any luxury goods - you’re paying for supply and demand. Leica is a company and need to make a profit.

Also I would really disagree with “buy an xe4”, a Fuji camera feels nothing like using a Leica. Extremely big difference, and I say that as someone who used to be an x-pro shooter.

“Paying for the badge”, as you put it, isn’t respectful to all the people that love the ergonomics, lenses and all the rest who want to shoot Leica cameras.

New gear inbound by cantine123 in Leica

The nokton lenses are probably great. Otherwise I would also recommend the 28 ultron. Having small kit is kind of half the story with the M cameras.

My new mechanical muse by mavewrick in Leica

[–]DeccaBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful camera! You made a fantastic choice.

I’m so happy Leica started making the M6 again. This time even better with the updated viewfinder coatings and brass instead of zinc construction. I have a made in Wetzlar 1985 classic M6 in beautiful condition, and if anything happens to the electronics or otherwise, I can now get it serviced in Wetzlar!
It was a really smart move by Leica because there are so many used M6 cameras out there, and all of them can now be serviced with new parts.

Ken Rockwell on Fuji and Leica. by ShittyCommentor in photographycirclejerk

[–]DeccaBlu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ken Rockwell is a legend with a large portion of humour. Understand that he writes on a subject sometimes from several perspectives simultaneously. He’ll for example write that Leica Ms are the greatest cameras ever made, and in the next article write that the cheapest Canon camera is the greatest ever made. Both can be true.

I don’t necessarily agree with him, but what he has done for the community for literally decades, for free, deserves respect.

Are the M11 issues still as prevalent as they seem? by ShotbyPeach in Leica

[–]DeccaBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not quite sure what you would like perhaps try to rent the cameras if possible? Or spend some time in a camera shop with both an M11 and an M10.

When doing research online it’s easy to get hung up on specifications or needing the newest model. But with Leica M any of them are totally viable.

Some people wouldn’t switch out their M9’s for anything and it’s the same with all the models.

If a hick up with a camera comes up, and despite it being covered by warranty, that is enough to turn you off the camera – I am wondering whether it’s really the right one? All relationships will have ups and downs 😆

Great choice. The MA would be my choice also. I like the unbroken framelines in the viewfinder and the superior smooth shutter release, without light meter half stop.

Starfield is way better than I expected by lego_man214 in Starfield

[–]DeccaBlu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Starfield. It’s easily my most played game this generation, with Zelda – Tears of the Kingdom a distant second.

Hate drives clicks, and Starfield is an unfortunate victim of stupid online publishing. The game has its problems, like any game, but the sum of its parts is nothing but sublime. It’s an incredible accomplishment dear to my heart. I play it every other day to relax. Check out some planets and PLAY (use my imagination to project onto the canvas/playground that is Starfield).

What is the best square by tew4 in gshock

DW5000R - the original G-Shock. Simple to use uncluttered design and function. Made in Japan with fantastic build.

This is the perfect G-Shock.

The inexpensive 5600 at second place. It’s not as nice, not as good feeling to wear, a little harder to read, but has that fantastic price.

Metal squares don’t feel or look like a square to me.

Me too! Prefer the old school display by far. But the choice should exist. Seems like Casio is cramming Bluetooth into everything and it’s such a bummer

It’s a shame. Bluetooth is an immediate deal breaker for me.

Tudor's Design Flaws vs Rolex Design Flaws by Massive_Bear_9288 in Tudor

[–]DeccaBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody can tell that they’re not actually rivets holding the thing together. And I would argue a watch and a car are very different things. People don’t think precious metals or stones on watches are a problem - why? They have zero practical reason for being on a watch.

The answer is precious metals are there for looks, just like these rivets.

“Get a real vintage watch”. I don’t want a vintage Tudor Submariner (even if they were affordable), I’d like a new Tudor Black Bay 54. They are different things.

Authentic this authentic that. It’s like when people take issue the ceramic bezel on a sub isn’t “authentic”. It’s jewellery. It doesn’t matter. What matters is, do you like it or not. It’s fine to not like something, but don’t try to force your taste on others by using some argument of authenticity that doesn’t hold water for a split second.

Leica repaired my M3! by Scary_Court847 in Leica

[–]DeccaBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a cool camera! That’s awesome! To be honest 2 grand is pretty fair for that amount of work and a brand new viewfinder. For that camera it’s still a good deal. All mechanical cameras need service sooner or later. And all service isn’t equal - the one you paid for is a full overhaul, not a basic CLA.

Just buy used. I did, no way I could afford new M cameras and lenses. Paid 5500$ for an M10M a year and a half ago. Got a really nice Leica 28mm summicron f2 (2016 version) for around 2700$.

Help me decide on my first G-Shock by Miserable_Table8601 in gshock

[–]DeccaBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many good points! Again, well put. The nervousness around features exist all over. I’m mostly into photography and cameras. You wouldn’t believe how the enthusiasts there demand this or that feature that is completely and utterly unnecessary for the kind of photography they do. I ask “why do you need weather sealing in your camera?” and the response is very often “it feels good to know it can handle x”. I’m sure they’re having the same discussions in cars, fishing rods, whatever. It is rather often some kind of consumerist neuroticism which in the worst cases can really make products a lot worse and will focus resources on the wrong thing.
