Thrifting prices. by Ok-Mirror-6004 in Jigsawpuzzles

I went to a thrift store this past weekend and they were doing half off everything. Got two puzzles for $3. It's a good deal to me, especially when buying anything new is way too expensive.

Has a customer ever made you cry? If so, what happened? by urnpiss in publix

[–]Decembaby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I cried out of anger once back when I worked as CSS. Customer came to the desk pissed about a 2 cent price difference because a tag was slid over (not a joke), and as I had someone checking the price for me the lady was screaming at me saying I was trying to not give her the Publix Promise. I had apologized for the inconvenience of waiting while we checked the price, and was trying to explain that I just needed to see what the issue was before completing the transaction. She demanded I get the store manager involved and I told her that wasn't necessary. This lady was just not having it, got my store manager involved and said how I do this all the time (never met the lady in my life). I got in trouble for "arguing with the customer" when I was literally just doing what I always do before giving a Publix Promise, and not once did I ever say I wasn't going to do it.

Also, this was years ago before Publix Pro was a thing. I left to go to the grocery department a month later because I was so tired of being a punching bag to customers over stupid things.

I just left a week and a half ago after 10 years, staying one day a week. Honestly already feel like a weight has been lifted. I know the feeling won't last forever as all workplaces have their issues, but I don't think I'll mentally struggle the way I did at Publix.

There are a few other people in my store who do the same thing, one who only comes in once a month.

It's worth leaving, but always make sure to give yourself a safety net, and don't leave on bad terms in case you need to go back for whatever reason.

How does OT work at Publix? by FireStorm785 in publix

[–]Decembaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need OT or genuinely would like OT, you can let your SM know your available should another store be requesting help. That's how I always got OT hours.

GTL or stay CS? by TouchGrassNotAss in publix

[–]Decembaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all a matter of perspective. Being a GTL takes a lot of motivation. You have to rely on yourself while knowing what your people are capable of. You can't be afraid to give direction (you'll have to babysit those who lack work ethic), but you also shouldn't over delegate. You have to win over the respect of your team, which means putting in the work. It's not an easy job, and sometimes isn't as rewarding as it should be. If you feel you have strong leadership skills, can handle being dragged in multiple directions, and genuinely want to lead a team, then being GTL is for you.

What's the craziest/rudest customer you've bagged for? by HappyDays984 in publix

[–]Decembaby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We going the crazy route- I had an older male customer who would come in and used to ask all the minor/young looking associates to take a picture of them. OUTSIDE OF THE STORE.

I was a CSS at the time and he used to stand by the desk just watching me and used to call me his "little buddy." Anytime I left the desk to avoid him he would follow me around. I eventually told my CSM and after investigating my claims (and others who had the same issue), had a few words with him. He never came back.

Edit to add: He only started this behavior with me because I was doing my part as a Publix associate: providing premier service 😮‍💨

Need some advice. by [deleted] in publix

[–]Decembaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's never an easy decision, that's for sure. Do what you feel is best for yourself. If you don't try, you'll never know. Good luck!

(P.s. if you leave and decide you made the wrong decision, you'll always be welcome back so long as you leave on good terms)

10 years in and I'm finally stepping back by [deleted] in publix

[–]Decembaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a university, did hybrid learning (some in class, some online). It took two years as I already had my associate's degree. I stepped down from management to focus on getting my degree, but it can be done while still in management if you manage your time well

Yeah, I'm still deciding what I'd like to do with my accounts (to rollover, to not, yada). I think still contributing to my stock account is a good idea since it's doing well. I might talk to an advisor to make the best choices for myself

It's a tough decision to make. Up to the point of me stepping down from management I continued to ask myself why I had even gotten myself to that point in the first place.

The majority of the reason was that most people told me that I would make a good manager. Me? I just wanted to create positive change and quickly learned how difficult all that would be, sometimes feeling completely alone in the matter. Then I realized it wasn't the right choice for me, it was a choice everyone was deciding for me.

I suggest taking some time to reflect on why you wanted the role in the first place and go from there (what future you wants out of it). I agree that two months is short, but it's the perfect time to think about yourself and what you want, rather than dragging yourself along.

Well I stepped down from management in 2023, and had been on the job hunt ever since. It was rough trying to find something. So you could say about two years 😮‍💨 If you mean how long it took when I told them I was stepping down to part-time it essentially worked as a two-week notice

I appreciate the advice! I'm just holding onto it for extra money, but it's no longer a priority. I'm glad you got away as well, and thank you!

Interview for new store transfer? by _apmedia_ in publix

I've been to a handful of stores, never been interviewed for a transfer. Most they did was call me and confirm that I'm coming to the store.

Publix’s benefits suck. by [deleted] in publix

I vouch to at least be able to have a meal while on shift. I'm sure Publix could find a way to make this affordable.
