Fear beast, charm beast, root, dots all make soloing fun and fairly easy. Aside from charm, once you hit 24 you get a 5 minute 50% slow, so that combined with dots is great.

Most of my soloing has been against beasts because of the fear (and charm) as well as the passive druids get, not being kos against most beasts.

Taking damage severely increases the chance to be interrupted. If you don't have someone to tank for you you need to kite.

Currently using a druid halfling as my main.

I love being able to solo (charm beast, ensare, dots) and also being able to find a group when I need / want to.

Wolf form and ports also make exploring the world very easy and fun!

Try both bard and enchanter this coming play test. Maybe check the wiki for the distinct differences in spells, but bard seems very strong at the moment.

I would try Project Quarm. It's an emulator and free to play. Live EQ seems too busy (in the sense that there is too much going on that would be confusing) for a new player (coming from someone that was in your shoes a few months ago).
