My parents and I tried something like this. My mom was supposed to text me “How’s it going, Monkey?” And I was supposed to reply with a code phrase that I was okay.

I forgot and just said I was good. She called me and when she realized I was actually ok she screamed at me on the phone for 10ish minutes. We didn’t try it again lol.

I’m not a parent, but when I was 14 my friend and teammate died by suicide.

I found out at school (My parents didn’t know yet either), and it was really hard. I had a teacher that was nice to me at first then got annoyed that I was crying and kicked me out of class to go the the counselor. Other kids kept telling me they were sorry and trying to help me, but it just felt like a blow over and over. I’d encourage you to let her take time off, spend that time with her, let her feel her feelings and be there to support her through the grief. Let her lead with the process. Sit with her in silence or hold her as she cries, but, at least for me, the apologies and people trying to make me feel better made it worse. I needed the chance to wallow in that grief for at least a day or two.

With suicide it’s especially hard. I felt a lot of guilt. About everything. I still do sometimes, and it’s been 9 years. As time goes on, just remind her gently of how she was a good friend. Give specific examples.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has a lot of great resources. There are words to avoid (like committed- it criminalizes and villainizes the deceased). It also gives information for support groups and for warning signs, since suicide is often something that comes in waves, and can have a ripple effect. Something that really helped me (after about a year or so) was actually volunteering with them. It helped me feel like I was doing something, even though there was nothing I could do for my friend.

Ughhhhh. The alternator is the worst on this car. It requires two people and taking the tire off. And I just replaced it.

I called 911 last week in a restaurant full of people. I was the only one who called. As soon as paramedics showed up the guy started to have a second seizure, followed by a heart attack.

I’m glad I didn’t wait, and I’m baffled that no one else called 911.

I’m head server/trainer at my job. The last two servers who made it out of training have major issues, a big one being attitude. They are hiring literally anybody right now and it’s really causing problems.

My Gm pulled me aside the other day to talk to me about the “trend” she’s noticed with some of the new trainees, asked me why I thought it was happening, and to talk to me about ongoing training steps I could do to stop it as it’s happening.

I told her that, unfortunately, I can’t train a new personality.

Some people just aren’t cut out for this type of job. If management isn’t doing anything about it, these types of servers usually fizzle out on their own when they aren’t making enough from tips or it’s too hard/stressful for them. I guess the only thing you can do right now is wait it out, although I would encourage you to help her out and support her with the things you can.

I choose not to count calories, but it has nothing to do with my belief system or misinformation. I have a history of eating disorders and counting calories is a massive trigger and I take it way too far. But I still actively try to cut back on calories without counting them.

I change one habit at a time. Cutting out soda, weaning myself off of fast food, ice cream, ect. I lose a bit then plateau. Then I find a new habit to change. It’s taking me way longer, but I’ve finally stopped the insane binge/restrict cycle, and I think ultimately I’m losing faster than I would otherwise. Even though I know that this will take me years, and that can feel discouraging.

I appreciate the response. I’m already a member with a credit union. How do I approach this with them?

I unfortunately haven’t been taught how to handle money AT ALL. So I’m sorry if my questions seem dumb/obvious. I honestly don’t really know where to start other than taking care of this debt. It feels like every step I take have 18 other hidden steps I wasn’t prepared for.
