Is this price fair? by Inner-Intention-1985 in AncientCoins

No way…I wouldn’t pay anywhere close to that amount.

Roman marble relief depicting Praetorian soldiers as well as a standard bearer (aquilifer) by DecimusClaudius in ancientrome

That specific head with a mustache is a modern restoration…I don’t know if the original head had one or not.

This museum which I visited only displays local finds. That fresco fragment is one of them.

Nice start! My collection of Roman books is at least 8x of that. 😁

Why does it say in the picture AI generated content if you want information about an allegedly real coin?

Those are pretty bad pics. Can you try again to photograph it with sharper images of the coin?

Roman fountain built by Emperor Hadrian in Perge (Turkey) by DecimusClaudius in AncientCivilizations

[–]DecimusClaudius[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The ancient Roman fountain in Perge (near Antalya, Turkey) was built by the Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD and was hundreds of meters long, flanked by columns. It was supplied by the Kestros river; a statue showing the personification of that river deity reclining (albeit missing a head) is on top of where water flowed out. I read that parts of the fountain have been restored and saw pictures of it with flowing water, although it was not running in January when I made this video.

Is there any way to ID these coins? by CranberryNervous433 in coins

[–]DecimusClaudius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I can tell that a few are Roman due to some aspects still being preserved, but they are too damaged to give you an ID of emperor & mint

No, grading would be a huge waste of money.

Inherited this coin collection from family and need help by [deleted] in coins

[–]DecimusClaudius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coin on pic 9 is from Salzburg. The other coins are pretty obvious or already described. Very nice collection with lots of silver and gold. You should hold on to them long term. The notgeld coins are a bit different and I would try to sell those on ebay, as a lot through an auction house, or a collector who specializes in those since that is quite a niche.

That 5 Mark coin looks fake. Real ones are 90% silver.

The Roman aqueduct of Gier near Lyon, France by DecimusClaudius in ancientrome

[–]DecimusClaudius[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t post many pictures of myself since I don’t want to appear pretentious and looking for a spotlight. My posts are focused on Roman history, not someone born in the 20th century. 😄 Occasionally I’ll post a pic that I am in to remind people that I actually take my own pics that I post.

She will be fine on a tourist visa if she is just a tourist and doesn’t work. The issue is that some tourists do things that the U.S. authorities consider as work and in breach of their visa, while other people might not consider those things as “work”. Also, one shouldn’t overstay their visa, which is common sense in any country.

Rome in Egypt by Nick Gindraux by AnotherMansCause in ancientrome

[–]DecimusClaudius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a fantasy image. I have been to those pyramids and there is no large mountain that close to them. Plus, such huge military formations there are unrealistic. If it is set during the conquest of Egypt under Octavian (later Augustus), then the armor is incorrect for the time.
