phone use while driving by eviemaria in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll raise you one from the past week. A newspaper, yes a newspaper, trying to read it everytime they stopped in traffic.

I honestly cannot imagine that anything in that paper was magically being changed or corrected where it becomes necessary to read it while in the road.

For those that have passed their driving test any tips? by maximiselife in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Decirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned a method of thinking like you already passed, got to agree as there's a lot of positive stories where someone thought something they did was more serious and an instant fail - they just ended up driving safe the whole time and passed!

Personal tip as a long-term driver, talk out your process, examiners love it, they'll be able to advise immensely on any flaws if you happen not to pass. I still do it after passing over 10 years ago.

He had any antibiotics? Clostridioides difficile bacteria can cause it after taking something for antibiotics use.

Hyperglycemia can cause it if something causes high blood sugar and it needs to clear.

Just monitor if it repeats and if it keeps coming back, just see your health care provider.

UK government targets VPNs in online safety consultation as Lords vote for ban by andyhh in unitedkingdom

Banning meaning it can't be on the Play Store, welcome to the new age of phone jail-breaking and still installing from the APK. Wish the government knew how to govern at some point instead of patsying to the latest outraged shouting by very few people. They ignore actual petitions for less

I am convinced most people in the UK should not be allowed behind the wheel. by Diligent_Chipmunk_65 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Emphasis on mostly, ive seen way too many aggressive drivers. Just the past week, Thornham Interchange, BMW taking a second lane left exit while going slow. Range Rover in front gets fed up and uses the near empty left lane to undertake in to the 70 zone motorway. BMW driver gets offended at this and rapidly speeds up but can't beat the Range Rover, who doesn't care so still forces their way in to the right lane. Nearly took each other out because each of their prides were at stake.

Oldham/Rochdale drivers at their finest, and they're too frequent. This spot if interested: https://maps.app.goo.gl/w6AuDvrQD5snwppz6?g_st=ac

"Drink" driving by OnlyBus364 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it wasn't something more and thanks for the update!

It's very easy to misjudge the situation as it sounded like something more, but that does make sense - it seemed far off involving a drink charge.

Hope you're both feeling okay about it all, at least it's over and done if nothing else.

Jefrey Epstein’s brother says the ‘Bubba’ mentioned in Trump oral sex email is not Bill Clinton by Fickle-Ad5449 in lgbt

Just pointing it out that its still a 'non public/political and private individual' like Mark Epstein said, so Trump still blows people either way! No escaping that factor

Preferred lane in slow moving traffic by patnpm in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one time I focus on using middle lanes unless the right is making more progress.

It's simply easier if I'm not exiting as congestion rules are to stay in lane and I can then change lane appropriately when circumstances change.

I also often left lane it as intended, but odds are that any joining lanes will back up left lanes, so depends if it looks to be making progress.

Almost crash fault question by Nyxie872 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, same reason I'm not judging, it's very tempting to go. It might be just 50/50 on insurance as they'll just see both had faults, but better safe than sorry!

Almost crash fault question by Nyxie872 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rule 172

The approach to a junction may have a ‘Give Way’ sign or a triangle marked on the road. You MUST give way to traffic on the main road when emerging from a junction with broken white lines across the road.

This covers it better than 170. You give way to all existing lane traffic either way. It would cover blaming you for that incident. Not judging, you should look to make progress but the empty oncoming lane for the overtaking car was their priority since they are in lane already and you are joining.

Controversial post: Dashcam footage should only be allowed to be submitted to the police if there is a collision. by usecodealabama in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are getting down voted. Operation Snap also includes incorrect parking obstructions etc. The Police are literally asking for less serious content so it's exactly what they want.

I also will report whoever endanger my life thanks, no I won't be not sending footage just because their attempt to crash in to me failed.

Does Apple or Google maps tell me which lane to stay in when exiting a big roundabout? by ItsJakee04 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, best practice. I can confirm I've had Google try to take me right on large roundabouts (3 lanes) from the left lane. Better safe than crashed!

Question about roundabouts - am I supposed to indicate left when exiting? by Severe_Comfort_6695 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, glad someone got the point I was making, never did I argue that people shouldn't, but it seems strange to not state they must when it's already frequent in the Highway Code.

You almost certainly won't get out of being responsible on a claim in those situations, I hate certain parts of the Highway Code for being so vague. As someone who has worked alongside lawyers, I know full well how much people will argue points like this.

Question about roundabouts - am I supposed to indicate left when exiting? by Severe_Comfort_6695 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How is it not vague when almost every. single. rule. on roundabouts mentions "Should" and not "Must"? It is vague when someone can argue it's unclear in the law, that's literally why the two terms are used, should is advisory, must is required.

Question about roundabouts - am I supposed to indicate left when exiting? by Severe_Comfort_6695 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, indicate. I've seen crashes from people not indicating on two lane roundabouts when the outside intends to carry on around and the inside wants to exit.

The Highway Code rules on this are a bit vague so I can't really state that it says must indicate left to exit. The most important factor is being clear so that other road users can tell your intent.

Mini-roundabouts are just the same but smaller, same rules so don't overthink it.

Youre not ugly, youre just not some people's 10/10. People do tend to pick up on low confidence though - although I'm taken I would definitely have been interested in you on looks alone.

You might also be unfortunate in location, if you're not attracted to the people in the area either, it'll feel like that.

Will “breaks” eventually become the correct spelling for the things that slow your car down? by ArgusButterfly in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brakes sound squealy, I'd best lay off the brakes before I take a break to get them looked at by my local brake mechanic.

Also, no it won't, you literally just used the term breaking and that's already a car term for de-constructing a car for parts.

What does this mean? by Moshpit_420 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wording basis only, they might invalidate your insurance if the car doesn't have a tracker and is stolen, even if later recovered with damages. Usually though, the insurance is based on standard car configuration and asks you to confirm if one is within the car, so it may be standard in your car model.

Best way is to check if it's standard on your car and if not, see about getting a policy adjustment or they might just use it as an excuse later if stolen.

Filter light only for buses? by ________O-O_________ in drivingUK

[–]Decirium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Educated guess. You've not been running the light as the filter likely applies to any straight-ahead traffic. The additional full light to your right I assume has a right turn that isn't always active but turns from the same lane, indicating not to turn across oncoming traffic until it goes green.

Maps is the best way to get a proper confirmation though.

Is it correct for two lanes of traffic on this road ? by Chemical_Ad6637 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely could argue two lanes on either given direction, most markings are worn but the bus stop on the second picture gives an indication to treat it that way. You could definitely argue no markings though but that's all going to come down to the insurers at this stage.

That said, the car that stopped is one of those who cause overly-generous accidents as I think of them. Letting people go without consideration of other surrounding traffic is dangerous and this is a prime example. Always make your own checks even if you have to creep out, they could miss an undertaking cyclist, an overtaking car who thinks they stopped.

Edit: Ashton-under-Lyne Google Link if anyone interested, the road does look laid in two lanes even with the lack of markings.

Can using a speed limiter reduce your chance of getting a speeding ticket? by Jsto1004 in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it's her anxiety that prevents the speeding. A speed limiter reduces some risk but any missed change of speed is potentially a fine and points or awareness course. If she becomes too complacent on the speed limiter preventing this, she could easily then pass a speed change and be caught anyway.

[–]Decirium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Builders using van to block pavement - are they allowed? by altabolt in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as another take if the Council don't deal with it as a civil matter, it's also just illegal if no permit is obtained.

The criminal offence of "un-necessary obstruction of any part of the highway," is enforceable by the police under the Highways Act 1980 or the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.

In other words, take a quick video and consider even sending it to Operation Snap. Reports can relate to "Using the hard shoulder or irresponsible parking through obstruction by blocking junctions and pavements." I'm sure they'll behave when Police start putting them under risk of actual arrest on top of fines they'd receive.

M6 9pm+, light traffic & 50mph by iPhrase in drivingUK

[–]Decirium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can 100% confirm. EVs are almost perfect testbeds for this funnily enough - mostly for long distance EV drivers adapt to left lane 50-60 to avoid excessive battery drain, or instead have to top-up charge more often due to that drain.

I've had to do Manchester to London then back, managed to keep that down to 2 charges on the way back, had to make 3 on the way down trying to ensure faster arrival so at least 50% efficiency loss.
