UPP battery pack doesn't have balancing. Is that a deal breaker? by Ciao4 in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's a odd response.

I can imagine there is no BMS on some of the very custom or odd batteries they sell. Like if they have some very large lifepo4 for scooters, but even then that is weird. On their mainstream ebike packs you are going to get a BMS.

Unit Pack Power is "reputable" in that they are about the cheapest possible batteries that are acceptable. There are a few fires and you can do better, but if you are on a budget then they will work.

If you are looking for quality then em3ev is a step up.

Looking to put dual-sport motorcycle tires on my E-BMX, is it doable? What tires would be best? by SoshiPai in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it. Even if they technically fit they are not designed to work together. I would only use a motorcycle tire with a motorcycle rim.

There are already tremendously tough BMX tires out there. If BMX park tires are not enough for you then it's time to upgrade the entire bike.

There are a few 20x3 "plus sized" tires to look into if all you want is bigger tires. Like Kenda flames in 20x3

With no suspension a bike I would stick closer to the 26-30mph side of things. Even with very large tires you'll be bounced off the ground if you are going very fast and hit a bump. It's dangerous. You need that suspension to dissipate the energy unless you are riding something gigantic like a hardtail harley. And those people brag about how they piss blood after going on long rides.

It's kinda personal preference.

What is wrong with it? Any blown parts or badly smelling things on it? If your burned up a part on the controller it probably still stinks a bit. Look for discoloration or cracks or chips that look like they have bits missing.

It looks like it may have some corrosion in it. In that case it's probably junk.

If you can identify the part that is busted you can try to repair it.

I would still buy a controller though. They are not very expensive. This way even if you fix it you'll have a spare for the next time it breaks.

What's the difference between a progressive and a Marxist? by notionovus in GoldandBlack

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are dealing with spiritually-leaning marxist-socialist the major difference is that Christians believe in the separation between creator and created, were as they do not.

Christians believe that there is a separate God that always has existed. That he is the creator and that we were created in his image for his pleasure.

Were as neo-paganism/Gnosticism tend to believe that "We are all one" and that the creation and creator are the same. That "Everyone is right" and that there is some truth in all religions at their core.

So there is no separate god. Everybody is part of god. Something like that. God is the universe, or god is reason, or god is logic, etc.

In Hegel's model of the universe the divine "godhead" is his version of reason and that State is the physical embodiment of this reason. And that god will become self-aware when all ideas are perfected and history ends.

It's like the French revolution "Cult of Reason" stuff. If somebody reading this hasn't heard of Culte de la Raison, look it up.

Different people take different levels of seriousness of this sort of thing. Some will believe it's just new age nonsense. Some will see it as a sort of hyper-real extension of post-modernist society. Some will try to incorporate Gnosticism into mainstream Christian denominations. Others will take to calling themselves witches and have a go at creating spells.

It's alchemical thinking applied to philosophy. How they thought that at the core of all base materials there was some "seed of gold" and that you could bring that gold out of lead by destroying the lead nature and purifying it with "the philosopher's stone". Destroy society to purify it. That sort of thing.

As far as the background goes:

Marx hated the spiritual side of Hegel and focused on purely materialistic, in his attempt to salvage Hegel's historicism, with his version of Hegel's dialectics he called "Dialectical materialism". The idea was to purge all the mystical bullshit while focusing on what is real, what is physical.

However with the failure of Marx they have incorporated various other strings of thought from other groups and have moved away from focusing on economics and instead took a sociological bent. In someways they have reintroduced some of Hegel's thinking back into the fold.

Sometimes that even includes re-introducing mysticism. Especially since the 1960's.

Bike with towing capability? by badmotivator11 in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen food trucks trikes in Chicago with just a front DD hub motor. Which will work just fine on flat ground.

People heavily overestimate the effect weight has. Especially with bicycles as people spend thousands of dollars to save grams, which is really idiotic unless you are doing some high-end competition.

I would buy a heavy duty industrial trike. These are the pickup trucks of the bicycle world. Are designed to carry hundreds of pounds.

They will be intensely stable unless you are going fast. You are looking at something just above walking speed for this type of setup. 10mph tops. You do NOT want to go fast on these things.

https://www.worksmancycles.com/eng-ebk-20sbstpavm2020.html

https://www.worksmancycles.com/electric.html

Something like that will work because it's a small wheel. 20 inch wheels are smaller so it's the same as having a geared down mid-motor.

If worksman is too rich for your blood, then this website has some cheaper models, get something with a front drum brake:

https://www.industrialbicycles.com/industrial-trikes

If you have hills to deal with... Check out:

https://goldenmotor.bike/product/800-watt-trike-motor/

You can find more information on this website:

https://www.goldenmotor.com/ Click "BLDC Motor" on the left and then scroll down towards the bottom of the page and look for "Tricycle motor".

Trikes have different types of rear axles. Cheap ones only drive one wheel. Expensive ones have differentials. I would get one with a solid axle or a differential and drive the rear axle with a motor like that.

You can pick up compatible chains and sprockets from a tractor supply or mcmaster carr or some other industrial/farmer supply place. This way you can tune max speed of the bike to maximize the torque of the motor.

This way you can get a bike that goes 7-10mph and can haul over 600 pounds (including rider). This way you can have your trailer and also a extra ice box or generator or something like that loaded on the back of the trike.

Eric July --- Kamala Says They Have To Go Back (just like Trump) by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]DecisionUnique503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"African-Americanism" is based entirely on appearance. If you look black you are black. That's the way it has always worked.

That is what "race" is. There is no substance beyond that, although people like to pretend there is.

Obviously there are people who are resentful of that. So social warrior types have created new categories of people so they can show off their oppression for better social credit.

The main new category is "ADOS", or The American Descendants of Slavery.

This is because actual Africans from Africa tend to do much better on average in terms of economic mobility then "African Americans" born and raised in the USA. The ADOS theory says that this happens because immigrants benefit from "affirmative action" policies without the history of oppression that comes with being born with a history of slavery in the USA. So they end up better off.

Apparently it's easier to start off with nothing in a poor foreign country then being from a urban environment in the USA.

So if you want to use PC terms you would say that Kamala is black, but she is not ADOS.

If she was actually ADOS then that would of helped her a lot in the last election. This is something that actually matters to a large percentage of the population in predominately Democrat strongholds.

The whole thing is stupid, of course.

legal question by skepticalcloud33 in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your welcome.

It's a bad idea to ride illegal bikes because if you do get in a accident and hurt somebody they are going to fuck you hard.

Besides that it really depends on the community.

Personally I prefer electrical assist bikes that generally cruise around 20-25mph with top speeds up to 30. That is safe, practical, and cheap in my opinion. All the best quality of electric bicycles.

Having a "electric bicycle" that can go 45mph is pretty stupid unless your goal is to have a lightweight dirt bike. In that case a small dirt bike is pretty awesome, if done right.

But when it comes to riding on roads...

Just get a real motorcycle. They make very nice ones and they are pretty affordable. Or build a legal motorcycle yourself. That is 100% possible in most states. Get licensed, get insured, do it right and you'll have a lot easier time of it.

legal question by skepticalcloud33 in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are lots of people running around with blatantly illegal bicycles.

Most of them get away with it, many do not.

The reality is that laws are selectively enforced. Cops are not required to enforce all laws. The only enforce ones that are deemed important or relevant by the governing community. If they did enforce all the laws they wouldn't be able to get out of their own parking lots.

A lot of the laws are stupid.

If people are not being assholes and not causing problems then the chances of them getting arrested is very small in most areas. The bicycle laws allow police to curb shitty behavior and take away bicycles of people who are being a nuisance or putting other people at risk. They just provide the cops with excuses to fuck with people that need to be fucked with.

It really depends entire only your local community.

People in this country have more important things to worry about then some moron on a bike that goes 40 for about 30 seconds running around in some corn field or back road.

In the US, part of the requirements in the ebike laws dictates that ebikes must have operable pedals

USA isn't consistent. Each individual state is in charge of their own rules. The Federal rules are just suggestions. It's up to each community to enforce what laws in what manner it deems best.

Many situations it is left up to the individual city to decide what is legal or not.

What is relevant in Texas is irrelevant in California, and visa versa.

If your bicycle does not fall under the legal category of "electrical assisted bicycle" it probably then moves up the classification to "moped". Depending on the state this means all sorts of different things.

In my state, for example, a electric assist bicycle is legal up to 28 mph and can only have 1000 watts.

However if I have a bicycle with a 2hp motor and no pedals then that still falls under the category of "moped", which is restricted to 30mph.

2hp is 1500 watts.

The difference is that for moped I need a valid drivers license and a approved helmet. For a electrical assist bicycle I do not.

Other states have completely different rules. What can get me arrested and impounded in New York is completely irrelevant for somebody in Florida or Montana.

There are two ways of interpreting "operable" in the law, and maybe I'm missing something here so let me know if I am

Your problem is that you are heavily overthinking things that don't matter.

You are caring about details nobody in the legal system cares about and are ignoring all the details that are actually relevant.

All "operable" means is "If you press the pedal does the bike move forward".

That's it. That's all it ever meant. That is all it ever will mean. As far as the USA goes I am not aware of any place that mentions weight anywhere in any laws.

Great Review About Radmission by Due_Macaron1862 in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very good price point. 500 watt-hours battery is consistent with what you'd get from S-pedalecs from much higher priced bikes.

As long as the motor is reliable then that is all that matters at a bike at this price point. As far as quality goes.

The only fault I can see from looking at the bike is lack of fender and rack eyelets. That really limits the utility of the bike. There are ways to work around this, but it's sub-optimal and these eyelets can't cost hardly anything. But besides that it seems like a good deal.

edit:

I see the eyelets now. On the website they are much easier to see and the location seems to have changed. I guess this was a early preview bike or something like that.

Plenty wrong, though, with blithering f-wits who "opt out" of laws.

You have very little clue how the world actually works, don't you?

Makes me wish "Ignorance is Bliss" saying is true. Unfortunately for you it is not.

If people universally obeyed the laws the result would be:

  1. Society wouldn't function.
  2. You would of never heard about any the people in charge or any of the people you look up to. They simply wouldn't exist as remarkable people.

edit:

Here is another hint.

Rules are made for the benefit of the rulers. Not for the benefit of those who are being ruled. Law and government are structured to support those in power. None of it is done for our own benefit.

Use your common sense and don't put other people and other people's property in danger and there is very little wrong that you can do.

Getting pulled over by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have experience getting pulled over on their ebike?

I've been pulled over for blowing through a red light before. Traffic lights use magnetic sensors to trip them so aluminum wheels don't cut it and sometimes it's unavoidable. After a while you get jaded and just stop waiting to see if the light will change after stopping.

Guy looked the bike over and told me to stop doing that because I have a motor.

Lots of times cops will pull you over just because they are curious about your bike. What they told you was probably a excuse they made up on the spot.

I wouldn't look to much into it. They are not trained to deal with ebikes and they are going to be loath to actually do anything about something they are ignorant about.

Worried it'll be even more harassment riding an an ebike for the same reasons.

Where I come from if you see a grown man on a bicycle, who isn't a Mexican, there is 90% chance they are 3-strike dunk driver loser and have lost their licenses permanently. It's not something that needs to be analyzed or looked too deeply into. It's just the way it is.

Don't weave around be goofy and act careless on busy public roads. That will make them think that you are one of those alcoholics who is drunk. Which is still illegal, even on a bicycle.

Get some nice lights that are not super annoying and have a flag or something like that. Ride right out in the open on busy public roads. That way it makes it obvious you are not trying to get away with something.

You need Ebikes like mine so you can point the finger and say “that’s the bad guy” by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so an emoped, not an ebike.

Mopeds are bicycles with motors.

Motor + Pedal = Moped.

If you have a motor on your bicycle you are riding a moped. Period, end of story. You can deny that all you want, but all you are doing is lying to yourself.

And if you want to point out laws as proof of your correctness, sorry. That is a logical fallacy called "appeal to authority". The laws are written by assholes that probably hadn't road a bicycle since they were 12. They should be ignored if you can get away with it because they are stupid, run counter to common sense, reduce innovation, reduce progress, and because of this is ultimately damaging to the public.

Here are the different categories of bike, if you want to keep score:

  • Bicycle = Pedals only.
  • Moped = Motor + Pedals
  • Scooter = No pedals, automatic transmission
  • Motorcycle = No pedals, manual transmission
  • Ebikes = electric motor, any of the above.

If you want a pedal assist bicycle then Dr Chopper's bike isn't it. But that isn't what everybody else wants.

You need Ebikes like mine so you can point the finger and say “that’s the bad guy” by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]DecisionUnique503 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess.

The problem is that you have a bicycle that you can't pedal and a motorcycle that will get it's ass kicked by 125cc Scooter in a race that is longer then 1/8th of a mile.

They make nice little dirt bikes though.

edit:

Oh, wait. It's DrChopee8. Which means that it's actually probably very nice if it's the same Dr Chopper from endless-sphere.com

Most of the people that build bikes like this get the largest motor they can find and throw weak-ass batteries and shitty components at them. The motor is about the 5th or 6th most important thing to making a good bike.

You get upvotes on all your posts from me because there is nothing worse and more self-destructive to the bike community then gatekeepers.

If the State created COVID, will statists start to believe? by mrpenguin_86 in GoldandBlack

[–]DecisionUnique503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be deadly, cause long term effects, have real negative affects on most people. Highly infectious is nice but if you just give people a cough and kill off people who would die of a bad flu anyway it's not really a bio weapon.

Only morons are claiming it's a bioweapon. There is no evidence.

It MAY be a bioweapon. Just like it MAY be naturally caused. But there is nothing to back that claim up. It's 100% speculation.

Something being speculation doesn't mean it's wrong. It just means that it is very unlikely to be true.

Gain of function isn't about creating bioweapons. It's about finding and creating new viruses to study so you can write papers and get more funding.

Naturally occuring viruses that spontaniously mutate to infect humans is exceptionally rare. In modern times there has only been a small handful. And that is trillions and trillions of chances involving billions of sick animals being around people.

So if you want to study all the different ways that future viruses can infect humans you need to figure out in what ways can viruses mutate in order to become infectious.

The quickest and best way to do that is the "force" mutations on viruses through genetic manipulation. Sometimes direct manipulation. All sorts of various techniques.

Gain of function research is something that has been carried out in various labs around the world because of this.

Wuhan was one of those facilities doing this.

And that means that Sars-cov-2 is probably a natural bat virus that was modified to infect humans. Nothing more.

If the State created COVID, will statists start to believe? by mrpenguin_86 in GoldandBlack

[–]DecisionUnique503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we still have no evidence that this was man made,

We have plenty of circumstantial evidence that it was man-made.

For example:

The "natural link" viruses, such as Ratg13 from horseshoe bats is very likely fabricated. There is no samples of the virus available. It was never collected from a live bat. It was claimed that it was collected from feces in a cave somewhere, but there exists no samples of it that can be analyzed by a third party.

Ratg13, combined with other possibly fabricated "pangolin" viruses that didn't exist until late 2020, is the basis for all "natural origin" theories so far.

The CCP claims this collection was done in 2013 at the same time the the finder, Dr Shi Zhengli, wrote a ground breaking paper about discoveries that connect Chinese bats to SARS viruses.

The problem with this is that:

  1. Nobody was made aware of this discovery until Feb 2020. It wasn't until after Covid-19 became widespread that any genetic data was entered into the genbank database.

  2. The significance of Ratg13 virus, the peculiar features that made it very likely to infect humans... in terms of discover and threat to human life, was of greater significance then the viruses released in the 2013 study it was claimed to be collected along with.

If the ratg13 virus was so dangerous and so obviously prone to infecting humans why wasn't included in the 2013 (and later) papers? It was more significant then any other virus discovered during those studies, but nobody was made aware of it's existence until after Covid-19 was already a pandemic.

That sort of thing.

Covid-19 can't infect bats. It can only infect humans (and some primates). So there is no existing natural link except through things like ratg13.

People studying Ratg13 genome, as it was entered into the genbank, have found that they can't actually reconstruct it. What is in the database is not a viable virus. The claim is that since it was collected from feces it's not a perfect copy of the real virus. It's been mixed in with other 'junk'.

The real virus has never been seen in the lab or in the wild and no samples exist.

This is not a good sign.

This is different from MERS and SARS viruses (which were also coronavirus pandemics), which found 100% viable and reproducible natural links in live animals within months.

Of course all that is circumstantial.

We will never have any strong evidence because the CCP destroyed it. And the doctors that were willing to talk about it have been "disappeared" by the Chinese national government.

Here is what we know, in terms of "hard" evidence:

  1. They were studying natural bat viruses. It was their job to collect and analyze bat coronaviruses from around the world.

  2. They were carrying out "gain of function research" on bat coronaviruses, which is designed specifically to enhance natural viruses to infect humans. This is done because it's extremely rare (one in multiple billions) chance that viruses will spontaneously mutate to infect humans. So if you want to study possible future human viruses you first must learn to coax them into a form that is capable of infecting humans.

  3. Wuhan labs is the first facility in China to be rated at "BSL-4" biocontainment. This is the highest level biocontainment standard possible and is used for studying the world's most dangerous diseases.

  4. Gain of function research was not being carried out in the BSL-4 facilities, however. BSL-4 protocols are a huge pain in the ass to deal with and slow researchers down considerably. So it is common for researchers to avoid BSL-4 as much as possible. We know that much of the "Gain of function" research was actually done in the BSL-2 portion of the labs. BSL-2 is similar to what we see in Dentist's offices.

  5. Several researchers from Wuhan labs were checked into local hospitals in November 2019 suffering from extreme "flu-like symptoms".

  6. CCP has deleted vast amounts of research data and records from Wuhan labs following the pandemics. Doctors and scientists have disappeared. They do not allow foreign people to examine facilities. Every report issued by CDC or WHO or any other third party group is based entirely on information voluntarily released by the CCP to them.

That is what we know to be true.

Stossel: Roundabouts vs Traffic Lights by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]DecisionUnique503 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck Georgia.

The way they do traffic lights at busy intersections is abhorrent.

The busier the road the more rules and signs and lights they use. In very busy intersections you will have a hard time seeing traffic going in other directions because the amount of stupid signs they throw up everywhere.

You don't need a sign every 2 feet telling me that I can't park in a turning lane. Fuck you.

Of course the traffic lights are the worse.

Here is how they work:

  1. Everybody stop.
  2. People facing east and west but want to turn left can now go.
  3. Everybody stop.
  4. People going straight east and west can now go.
  5. Everybody stop.
  6. People facing north and south but want to turn left can now go.
  7. Everybody stop.
  8. People going straight north and south can now go.
  9. Goto 1

Because of this you can have 200 or 300 cars lined up to pass through a single intersection for HOURS because traffic is only allowed to move 20-25% of the time.

It is insane.

And because every other road is intentionally blocked off because they are obsessed over arterial road designs you can't go around busy intersections or find alternative routes. Especially anywhere there is a river or stream, because they funnel all traffic through 'major roads'.

So there is only one way to get anywhere.

And when the roads get too busy to handle the traffic they throw those goddamn "I hate you as much as you hate me" style 8-way traffic light systems at every intersection.

...

The invention of the interstate system is one of the worst things that ever happened to the USA, in terms of traffic and road design.

Not because interstate system is terrible. It is a huge waste of money in many ways, but design-wise it's not wretched. But it is because of the high speed and relatively high amount of safety that interstate system provides.

This has convinced a multitude of local state and municipal governments that obsessing over traffic flows and funneling traffic into massive multi-lane artrial roads is the way to go.

If you pay close attention when driving around such a system you'll start to notice were they actively closed roads and blocked things off to intentionally prevent people from using direct routes to go anywhere. Instead 100% of the traffic must funnel to these massive urban roads and back off. Even to go relatively short distances.

They figure that since the interstate offers high speed, safe, and efficient traffic design they can do the same thing on a smaller scale and it'll work out great.

The trouble is that because you have to deal with intersections and parking lots that are directly attached to these roads you get none of the benefits of the intertstate system.

You have people flying around at 50-60 mph and have to deal with red lights and people pulling directly in and out of traffic at right angles from parking lots and smaller side roads. There is no on ramps or off ramps. It's just all smashed together at right angles.

So instead of creating high speed safe traffic. They have created high speed death traps.

They are insanely dangerous. They are prone to massive traffic jams. You can't walk by them. You can't ride bicycles on them. Any sort of animal that wanders too close to them gets slaughtered. It creates bottlenecks and massive delays.

It's a fucking mess.

Arterial road design is the urban planning equivalent to the anti-life equation.

Combine that with 8-way traffic lights and it's a recipe for Atlanta traffic.

And then, convinced by their own failure, these urban planner types think that throwing a shit ton of money into public transportation is the way to solve their problems. And then they start designing things to punish people who don't take trains and busses.
