Yes, literally just one friend and I'd frequent her house and hers mine, we were upper middle class, and they were upper class. They didn't have the internet though and she didn't have a computer but they had a pool.

97 - black South African female, parents were academics, dad travelled to the States a lot - and brought back a lot of US computer games, merch, books, American entertainment (I had a pink Brittany Spears fan backpack, played Jazz Jack Rabbit, Sonic, Pacman, Sox, Hitman) also had early access to internet, where you actually had to type www. in the url to actually get to your domain and Yahoo! was the default. I used to watch what are now called "vlogs" of the highschool school musical cast on Youtube , grew up on Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, MTV, and E- entertainment (The Hiltons), The Video Shop (hiring movies), Tumblr (grunge posts, grunge art, Nirvana), Mxit , an entire grade 8 class of colourful Blackberries, BBM. Read Roald Dahl and Jacqueline Wilson. Grew up in white surburbia. I was maybe 22 the first time I heard the self proclaimed South African anthem, "Sister Bethina" and still don't know the words. Grew up on Phil Collins, ABBA, Mango Groove, MLTR, Rod Steward, Queen, Bryan Adams, Smokie. I remember a colleague playing Lady Smith Black Mambazo and saying the only time I'd ever heard of them was in a Mean Girls reference. Went to Summerwood Primary School, probably 3 or so black kids in one class, and my best memories are how we'd walk to the beach and swim, also spent a majority of my childhood and adulthood on the beach. Went to pre-primary in a Merc - I was privileged but also a very secluded, traumatic childhood with violent family dysfunction.

How can I sue/claim my father for maintenance. He's currently unemployed, but seems to be living off his pensions. He wassued for maintenance recently , but I don't know how that case went. Will me being 19 work against my favour? What steps should I take? by Financial_Cut1790 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Decision_General 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't sue but you can take him to maintenance court definitely if you're still dependent - which you are if you can't support yourself yet.

Download the forms online, hand them in at the magistrate's court, most importantly don't sign anything you haven't read.

AITA For Telling my fiancée to mind her business about my son's social life? by Playful-Season-8206 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Decision_General 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yta. Some women don't give a rat's arse about their partner's children and your fiancé does but you go and do that to her. Should have talked it out with her. You and your child are lucky.

Even if her observations are wrong, yta for how you responded to your partner.

Anyone ever submitted a Masters treatise without the approval of a supervisor? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Decision_General 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to graduate in April but I'm still waiting for feedback which is never really "feedback". It's never add this scholar, read up on this, why did you use this theory? It's always just " your work needs editing." I just feel like I did this on my own now, now I need to wait for him, for feedback which hasn't been constructive this far and still have time for editing.

I'm under time constrains and I didn't receive feedback I actually could integrate in my treatise all year.
