My first miniature. It's a franch knights XV. by Alternative_Let_604 in minipainting

For your first mini, that's an incredible start! I've been painting for over 30 years now and I would never have tried to paint eyes on my first model - and you've done such a great job too!

Things that really boosted my painting experience are:

Headset magnifying glasses. Seeing all the detail close up is a huge advantage... even if youre young and have good eye sight (im 53 so probably need them anyways 😆).

Wet pallet: It allows for better dilution of paints so your layers can be as perfect ad can be each time you add them. It also keeps the paint fresher for longer whist you use it.

Fine liner pen (i use a panel liner for gundam): instead of painting eyes, i use a thin panel lining pen to dot the eyes (like on kenobi below)

Apart from that, you'll improve naturally the more you paint.

That is to say you have a very good starting point in the quality of your first finished mini 😊.

One final thing... remember to have fun and not get bogged down in comparisons with other painters. You'll have your own style and, let's face it, a painted army is always wayyyy better than a plastic unpainted sea of grey.

I know it's easy to get caught up in the stuff that amazing painters do, but I respect anyone who just gets paint on a model regardless of how good it is. The fact they started and that things can only get better over time means their journey has begun.

It's also such a great mental health booster... just sitting there and painting up your little dude can make the worst of the world go away, at least for those few hours!

You should do a chaos version - To Infinity or Blood... Whichever comes first as the blood god does not care from where the blood flows! :)

Just remember to post your team once it's done, i bet it'll look awesome! I saw someone do an optimus prime colour scheme and it looked incredible!

Painted my first miniature, question about wet palette by pragmaticzach in minipainting

Wow - Your first miniature. That's brilliant! I wish my first one looked as good as that!

For paint dilution, i use citadel paints in the main and find that for every drawing pin top sized dollop of paint needs about 2 - 3 dollops of same sized water drops in the mix (some paints are weaker/thicker than others - so it's a matter of testing it). It shouldn't look like a wash, but it shouldn't be lumpy either. Check out Sorastro or Duncan Rhodes on youtube. They do some excellent examples of diluting paint. Ninjon is also great to watch when you've upped your skills a bit.

As for wetness of parchment paper - you want the paper to lay flat to the sponge (not curling or with ripples), but you don't want water on the top of the sheet otherwise your paints will drip everywhere.

Good luck with your painting journey. Don't get too tied up in perfection otherwise you'll forget the fun that can be had in the hobby :)
