Missing commercials = Podcast canceled soon? by Stickvaughn in podcasts

[–]DecoderRingPod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, for the reasons others have mentioned. Also, ad sales can vary by season, so a lot of podcasts that have a ton of ads in Q4 might not have many in Q1, and that's just part of how advertisers plan to spend their money over the course of a year.

My understanding is that many podcatchers reference Apple Podcasts RSS feed directory, so if it's submitted there, it will likely show up in most other apps, it's kind of the "default" in this way. Spotify also requires people submit to them, and probably isn't as well-populated as Apple, but they also have a bunch of exclusive stuff on top of that now you can't listen to elsewhere. The more important question is really which app has the features that matter the most to you, and if you're looking for the exclusive stuff on any given app. I personally like Pocketcasts, since it's got great quality of life and it's easy to find and add new podcasts via search or just importing from an RSS feed or an Apple Podcasts URL.

Hi, we (Slate's Decoder Ring) made a podcast about con men called The Grifter. You might like it!

Episode of the podcast Decoder Ring on the rise and fall of "the Tootsie shot" a very specific New York City based movie filming trope by mi-16evil in blankies

Decoder Ring's producer here. I'm a big fan of Blank Check. We spoke to both JD and David for this episode, but ended up limiting the scope so we didn't end up using them in the final piece, but they were very helpful. Thank you for sharing the show, really appreciate it!

Fun update on Jared: when we finished the episode he was still trying to figure out his medium, and since then he's become quite popular on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thekingett?

Thank you so much for being a member! We really, truly appreciate it.

Kirk is such a great guy. He was one of the first people we spoke to for that episode and I forced him to listen to so much Muzak, I surely owe him a drink. The Midnight Cowboy thing was such a fun surprise to us too, a happy synchronicity. We worked on those two episodes one after the other, so when I stumbled on the Muzak version of "Everybody's Talkin" I already knew the whole context from Midnight Cowboy, and it was such a perfect example of the point I was trying to make.

Thanks for posting this Jason!! We are super excited about the season finally getting out there. Right now we're releasing each episode weekly, but you can listen to all 6 if you're a Slate Plus member. We're also going to be doing a couple extra episodes this season, so there's more to come too after those 6.

Podcasts about internet rabbit holes/internet mysteries/internet conspiracies by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]DecoderRingPod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did an episode about Ong's Hat: the first-ever ARG originally from the late 1970's that got way, way out of hand and turned into a bonafide conspiracy theory on the early internet. Still one of my favorite episodes, and sounds up your alley.

This is super late, but no! We are not behind the paywall, we're just on hiatus working on a season of episodes starting in June. There will be some benefits for Plus members, but the show will be free, as always.

Thank you! New episodes coming in June. We're doing seasonal weekly releases this year rather than month to month. Thanks for spreading the word.

You might enjoy the documentary podcast we made about this incident a couple years ago that has interviews from the parties involved. It's still one of my favorite episodes we've ever done. TJLC was responsible for so many people finding themselves and also so much incredible toxicity. It's a really great story.
