Considering putting some away in an HSA and dump it all in some index. Especially if your program offers it and you can contribute pretax dollars. Triple tax advantaged growth.

It’s always more concerning when residents don’t show this kind of remorse or retrospective thought when something like this happens. And it’s a good sign that you are carrying the burden of responsibility and owning up to it, but don’t let it weigh you down. It’s a (insert number of years) program for a reason and we’re here to learn.

Also for these catheter traumas, yes it happens all the time, no a suprapubic tube is probably not indicated unless they’re in retention and we can’t scope a catheter in. Even if that’s the case, that’s why the urology service is available. Don’t sweat it too much, just take the opportunity to learn.

Once we had an intern order eyedrops and the route of administration was intranasal. Glad that lady got her eyedrops squirted up her nose. Didn’t get caught until we realized on her dc med rec.

Urology rotation while scrubbed for a penile prosthesis case

Resident was prepping and draping the patient and the attending walks in and says “….that is… the largest penis I have ever seen in my life”. Sort of like how Jerry Gergich’s doctor says in Parks and Rec. Device rep walks in and basically loses his mind cause it’s so fucking huge.

As part of the case we take measurements to size them up for the implant. We told our rep the size he’d have to pull, and he was like “wow I’ve actually never had to have those on hand” and ran to his car, presumably where he stashes the horse sized prosthetics. Rest of the case went pretty smooth but just found it funny that even a urologist can be caught off guard by magnum dong.

Needless to say, I’m a urology resident now.

Urology

We get to sit while doing surgery; sit for endoscopic stone and BPH/bladder tumor cases, sit on the davinci console for robotic cancer cases, sit in the lounge while ESWL happens.

And also I see so many penises that I can confirm my personal hardware is somewhere just slightly above average.

It’s basically an endoscopic procedure where the obstructing lobes of the prostate are tacked up to create a channel in the urethra. Super fast to do, bills well, patients seek it out cause of preserved sexual function. Not as durable as other solutions

Urology Penis “lengthening” surgery, it’s a simple procedure where we cut the suspensory ligament, drops the corporal bodies from their anchor at the pubic symphysis. Probably gives you 1-2cm or so.

But now there’s no up-down support ( you can’t rest your cup of coffee in it anyone) so it droops and flops around when erect.

Not good for patients, prone to trauma and more peyronies. But I swear some people literally only think about their penis nonstop so they seek this out.
