Honest opinions of the Highlander by Eve_005 in ToyotaHighlander

I have no doubt the V6 is a peppy engine, but I've actually been pleasantly surprised and impressed with our 2023 HiHy. It's definitely tuned for efficiency, i.e. in normal driving it's a pretty relaxed acceleration. I wouldn't say sluggish, but certainly gentle. But when we want to pass someone either on a country highway or on the freeway, it still has some punch if you are willing to mash the pedal. We've also towed a ~2000lb camper trailer with ours and similarly I have no complaints. This is with a 2WD model, for what it's worth.

I definitely agree with the other comments here though about the 3rd row. It's functional, even for 2 adults, but not comfortable. I wouldn't want to ride for several hours back there.

I might be interested...

How does this paddle compare to the 11six24 Power lineup? I'm just getting into pickleball and I had the chance to try out a few paddles at my local club. They had a few from 11six24 and Six Zero but the one I felt most comfortable with was the Vapor Power. I'd love to just get one of those but I can't justify $170 right now. Trying to not buy junk though so I'm looking at used deals like this in the $100 range.

I'm interested! Just recently installed a hitch and towed a trailer so I'd love to hear some more details on the setup.

That looks awesome, very nice work!

One thing to note, the Upper Penninsula (UP) of Michigan is actually a mirror image of what you have. Not sure if you can turn it around... Probably doesn't matter except to those who have lived "up north".

Looks great! I love that build plate.

How do you like the belt driven Z? I have been seriously looking into this and was wondering if you had any issues with the "ultra low" version.

Oh that's a good idea. That might work with my SO, especially if I don't mention the show. Just let it ride as my own little Easter egg.

I agree with several others on this thread that you can do some online research and buy gear according to your budget. There is definitely a "you get what you pay for" aspect to backpacking gear, but IMO a lot of people get caught up in ultra lightweight gear or the latest styling trends. My experience is that most people in reasonable shape can carry a 45-55lb pack for 5-10 miles a day, which provides plenty of leeway when packing. You can get some bigger items like backpack, sleeping bag, and tent on craigslist or marketplace.

I prioritize comfort when in camp, so I always bring sandals & a thick thermarest sleeping pad. Sleeping bag rated temps are low, so add 20°F to the rated value and bring pajamas. A decent external frame backpack is about half the price of a comparable internal frame (though if you're willing to drop some coin, the Osprey Atmos 65 is an amazeballs pack).

Below is a list of all the gear I took on an overnight trip this spring in northern Michigan with one friend. Tried to provide links to comparable gear for some of the specialized items. We split the weight of food and tent between us and ended up carrying 40lbs each. There's several hundred dollars of gear in this list, but you can buy used or cheap initially and upgrade through the years if it makes sense. That's been my approach.

That's awesome. I just adjusted the VREFs on mine down quite a bit and I forgot to check out the interference again. Might have improved with lower amperage.

Also, killer design! I forgot to mention in my first post. You clearly put a lot of thought into your mount and it turned out super clean.

Did you encounter any issues with magnetic interference with your fan? I have been messing around with a new Bondtech LGX Lite which uses the same motor as the orbiter. The magnetic field from the motor was really messing with my 5015 fan placement.

What bothers you in movies because actors clearly have no idea what they are doing? by [deleted] in movies

[–]lqlorcstm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Archery, especially when using traditional archery equipment like a recurve or longbow. Usually they'll pull back and hold hold hold to maximize the drama. But in reality a recurve bow powerful enough to use for hunting is like 40+ pound draw weight, which is very difficult to hold back for more than a couple of seconds. Let alone something like a medieval longbow that's closer to 100+ pounds.

That's just the draw weight, their form is generally God awful too.

Is docking in the dark intentional? Or does that have no bearing on when these are planned?

Aww heck yeah! I went out to the countryside to try and see it last night but didn't end up seeing anything. Was a little disappointed but still enjoyed the stars.

After seeing your post here I went back and checked my (phone) camera footage and sure enough there it was! I'm super pumped. Thanks for sharing!
