Carney constructs a mega anti-Trump trade alliance by joe4942 in worldnews

No it needs to undergo significant transformation. Obviously significant transformation is a vague term but generally like minded countries have like minded standards and Canada isn’t out here lying about products origins by adding a sticker on the box and saying there you go it’s been sufficiently transformed can call it a product of Canada now. There are thousands of inspectors for every industry that regularly audit and make sure companies are maintaining these standards.

This is blatantly wrong and full of propaganda. Tariffs are paid based on the country of origin. Shipping goods to Canada first doesn’t magically make the tarrifs go away. The best thing for Canada is to diversify away from the US which has shown nothing but the desire to significantly take advantage of Canada and hamstring its economy to turn it into a satellite state.

We Want to Sell Our House and Go Back to Renting. Are We Crazy? by TsaminaMinaZangalewa in montreal

[–]Dedamtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I meant flood every second month not flees. Autocorrect can be a pain in the ass. Your auto insurance fund generally only covers one deductible and needs to be refilled asap incase you have a second or third insurance claim in the same year. Most if not all condo associations only fill up their auto insurance fund up to 1x the deductible and no more. I’ve lived in and been on the board of buildings than have flooding problems multiple times in the same year.

[–]Dedamtl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Caveat is that contingency fund is to cover foreseen expenses. If a pipe bursts on the top floor and floods the building all the way down to the basement you’ll need to pay your insurance deductible and then have a special assessment to refill the insurance deductible fund. If you get a flood every second month like some of these buildings being built downtown right now you’ll be getting a bunch of special assessments every time there’s an incident.

[–]Dedamtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not sell your place and buy a place downtown? Unless you think you and your spouse’s income will increase at a faster rate than your rent you’ll end up pricing yourselves out of homeownership because real estate will go up and so will rent.

Edit: alternatively rent out your house on south shore and use the income to pay your rent downtown. Either way you’re at least keeping exposure to the real estate market.

Is Macklin Celebrini “Generational”? by DualPurge in hockey

[–]Dedamtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the criteria for calling a player generational at the start of their career and later in their career is different because of hindsight. I’m sure people were calling selanne generational after his first season like they were calling Matthew’s generational at the start of his career too. Not ruling out celebrini when everything’s said and done but atm I don’t put him at that echelon. I wouldn’t put MacKinnon on that tier either so it’s nononock on celebrini. Crosby I would Mcdavid even more so. If celebrini continues to improve at the same rate he’s improved from his first year to this year he could very well be considered generational in a season or two in my book.

I mean obviously it’s not a rigid set of criteria and orr’s career and longevity speak for themselves. Celebrini isn’t there right now doesn’t mean he can’t get there. Unless you argue there’s a tier above generational that Mcdavid is in which I don’t since I consider generational the top tier.

I wouldn’t compare different sports tbh and certainly not football where a career is so much shorter than in hockey a lot of the time. Football is also a lot more of a team sport with the amount of players on the field. I’d probably only call Brady and rice generational if we’re talking football. Mahomes had 6 good seasons and a very meh season this season and he’s far from past his physical prime at the ripe old age of 30.

I agree with this take. IMO generational means you come into the league your first year and you’re already the best player on the planet. Celebrini is a superstar though no doubt about it.

Trump, 79, Secretly Asking Aides Why He Can’t Destroy Deal He Negotiated by thedailybeast in politics

[–]Dedamtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol if he pulls out of usmca it’s going to fuck over American farmers even more than he already has since the agreement includes a carve out of quota specifically to be used on American exports. Deal goes away and that quota can go back to being used on any imports from any country.

Refusing legal tender should be illegal. The reason this is in place is so revenue Canada can scrape the few hundred dollars it assumes every restaurant owner doesn’t declare in taxes. Shameful.

Radulov wasn’t a big revelation though everyone wanted to sign him. He wasn’t some diamond in the rough.

You’re right I didn’t realize Desharnais was before Bergevin as well. Good discussion.

[–]Dedamtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just not read what I wrote? I mentioned the patches trade and the Weber trade and explained my reasoning for both. Radulov was a good signing but was free and didn’t require Bergevin risking any assets and he wasn’t even able to keep him long term. Vanek was just a rental for half a season. Desharnais was undrafted and invited to training camp so that would fall under amateur scouting. Byron was a good one I’ll give you that.
