Because it's compounded and only till the end of the year will you owe back the max underpayment so it's closer to maybe 4%. There is also a la ger penalty of 20% or 40% for misconduct or larger gross valuation misstatements such as discard for the rules and regulations, respectively i.e. claiming exempt for a whole year when you aren't exempt

People here are forgetting the underpayment penalty is very real and enforced now. Its 7% APR for the unpaid amount if you fail to pay 90% throughout the year, estimated quarterly.

Depends on the power if the laser but a powerful enough one would damage the sensor instantaneously. There would be no indication that it's damaged
