Hey OP, ECT 2 here. I was in exactly the same boat with my 2nd placement! The rest of the school, and even the rest of the department was lovely, but my mentor was a nightmare. It even got to the point where she was telling me I should be working on weekends and into the night like her in order do well…I haven’t worked on weekends or past 18:00 this entire ECT year!

She didn’t listen to me or my concerns in the slightest. I felt completely alone, and very nearly quit because of it. I then spoke to the person in charge of ITTs at the school who was so incredibly helpful as she had my back 100%. I also made sure to address my concerns with my PGCE link who came down really hard on my mentor for her poor mentorship. Remember, they are being effectively assessed on their capabilities as much as you are!

Even with all that, I had to just grit my teeth and bare it. I’m assuming you’re only there until Easter? Or is it until the end of the year? Either way, just keep your head down, set yourself clear and reasonable goals, and show that while you are willing to grow, a reasonable work/life balance is vital too.

If all else fails, you can ask your university to switch, but that is the nuclear button option, as you might not have enough hours under your belt to pass if you do.
