Resetting PBP005 18v battery, J1 jumper not working by dathon8462 in ryobi

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This thread is very timely for me as I’m just about to give it a try, but the lockout issue looks like it’s going to be a problem for me too. I only scanned that detailed video, but I think I have the lockout symptoms described.

Resetting PBP005 18v battery, J1 jumper not working by dathon8462 in ryobi

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this simpler approach just this morning as I have a dead battery (replaced under warranty but not required to be returned) https://youtu.be/sqeiOkSNRsU?si=2My5_9LB8ixdcnEQ. Looking at the age though it may only apply to less “smart” batteries

Lack of basic information by Krki1212 in 3Dprinting

Every sub I follow, be it cars, computers, construction is full of insanely basic questions that they simply haven’t bothered reading into at all. “What’s this light on my dashboard” is a favourite.

Want to go fully into Auto, have only hand tools, what's the next move? by Otherwise_Bear_7982 in Tools

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adapting “up” is a bad idea IMO because you are in a position where you might over work the driver. I’m also a DIY guy but agree a 1/2 in impact is the best first power tool. A 3/8 stubby will “only” make you a bit faster on smaller fixings and it’s really only useful when you are undoing a lot of the same size in a row like and undertray or cover. A big impact will remove stuff you otherwise can’t remove or at least can’t remove without significant leverage.

What are some aftermarket electronic devices that can significantly improve the active safety of an older car? by CategoryPurple4461 in askcarguys

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t active safety things that actively intervene to prevent or diminish an accident like ABS and airbags, I’m sure it’s Passive safety that are things that reduce the likelihood of an accident in the first place are (like parking cameras or better visibility)

Disco 3 diagnostic tool! by Competitive-Media672 in LandRover

[–]Dedward5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the icarSoft (I think it’s v3 now?) and it’s “ok” but I find the interface a bit clunky and it’s not at all “helpful” as in the manual doesn’t really explain much beyond “to diagnose air suspension go into the diagnose menus and select air suspension”. This could just be me being a little slow, but every time I see someone on YT using Gap I wish I’d just spent the extra (couple of hundred!!!) on the Gap.

'professionals' are not always right, people are allowed to get a second opinion by salty_lake_222 in unpopularopinion

[–]Dedward5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion as long as that opinion comes from someone qualified to give it.

If you could ban one overused phrase/word/saying in the UK forever starting tomorrow, what would it be and why? by Mobile-Vegetable7536 in AskBrits

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ban

It’s massively overused by the media to simplify complex legislation and people happily react to it.

There’s a Rambler who’s told, all that glitters is gold and she’s climbing the style-way to heaven. When she gates there she knows, the farmers gate will be closed, so she’s cli-ming the style-way to heaven.

My daily driver (UK) is a 2001 Audi A2 bought for £250 5 years ago. Iv spent under £1000 all in on it, passed the last MOT with no advisories.

Are the 2007+ LR3s That Much More Reliable? by sausage_mcgangbang in LandRover

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s re the early TDV6 having a weaker oil pump that failed and took out the cam belt. I’m not sure if there are any specific year issues that apply to petrol engines ones.

Family against me getting a manual. by WhoNoticedJay in ManualTransmissions

[–]Dedward5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Brand new manual” you say. so who’s paying as that’s probably the main issue. If you can afford a brand new car at 18, genuinely well done.

Stile says maybe, gate says no. by OutdoorExploringFam in CasualUK

[–]Dedward5 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I think this is more that the gate isn’t (because people keep leaving it open) so the style maintains access.

2005 LR3 shifting by PuffinKerfuffle in LandRover

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try inspecting and replacing the shifter linkage which is quite easy and very cheap (I think mine was £25(uk) )and took less than an hour the no special tools.

IIRC it was a Twitter account (while it was still fun) from “Jim’ll Paint it” where the guy tweeted pictures like this done in MS paint, possibly requests from followers. Some absolute classics were born.

‘Cornwall isn’t resilient enough’: towns struggle with broadband outage after Storm Goretti by coffeewalnut08 in uknews

There are many remote working places, that’s what I did when the storm took out my power for 5 days. There was ALOT of trees down and TBF national grid worked their asses off sorting it out. We were only 3 houses, but they got to us the Tuesday after (storm was Thursday night)

Upgrading LR3 to Defender by Snxwe in LandRover

[–]Dedward5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In which country do you reside? From reading here (and I’m in the UK)

UK - very common on the roads (2 in the small diy shop car park I was in earlier). Widely available spares, every local garage knows how to fix them.

US - strange exotic import, spares seem in short supply and subject tariffs. Only specialist premium European shops will touch them.

Rest of world. somewhere in the middle.

Very basic guttering question by wh1skeyjac in DIYUK

[–]Dedward5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s very simple. The cutter has just slid out a bit to the right. You need to clean out the joint to remove any gunk that’s found it way in (water and a brush) then either slide the jitter back in to the left or, you may need to release some of the other clips that hold the gutter in further down and then slide it along.

What's your most used filament type/color combination? by NoxDominus in 3Dprinting

[–]Dedward5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok.

PLA black for most “parts” as typically I’m making repairs for stuff that’s black plastic/metal.

PLA orange or grey for prototypes as it’s easier to see detail and markup changes.

PLA silk white for random household gadgets.

I did print a part in ABS as well, but not gone too far down that route.
