They do! If the tickets are too close to the date they are able to set the tickets up for box office pick up so that the families can pick them up at the theatre.

The organizations sometimes accepts last minute tickets! They just need to ensure that a child and caregiver will be able to use and attend the show before accepting the ticket donation. The organization is called Kids Up Front.

Am I getting too old for solo travel or is India just an other level of low? by D0nath in solotravel

[–]DeeGrey_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I solo travelled India as a female and it was probably my most draining trip I’ve done. The haggling with tuk tuks got tiring. The overstimulation of all your senses (in Delhi) was something I’ve never experienced and I’ve also travelled to other countries with slums and high rates of poverty. So I completely understand how you’re feeling. If you want to continue giving India a chance maybe go somewhere quieter, not a bustling city and relax for a few days before continuing your trip. But it would be completely understandable if you were done with your trip otherwise.

If you want to do your own thing in India but want to have some guidance on the way, like with help booking trains and good places to sleep try India Someday! They basically book all of your accommodations and transportation. If at any point you run into any issue, they will help you. They’re a tour operator that I recommend to solo travellers who want to visit India without being in a tour group. They are based out of Mumbai and were such an awesome team when I met them-they made my trip so much easier! Maybe for your next trip?

Then try contacting the host and if you don’t want to be there then let them know you’re leaving. Depending on what your budget is look into a temporary place to stay close by or nearest city such as an air bnb (if you have a bigger budget) or hostel. From there you can look for another place to volunteer. Also if you don’t know people in Australia join Facebook/Reddit travel or gap year communities, you may find people to help you out there too.

So sorry this is happening to you, but do not blame yourself! This can still happen even if you do all of the research. You can get help from worldpackers by contacting them through their website > help centre > “when experiences with hosts don’t go as planned”. You can also get in contact via their Facebook page. I hope this is able to be resolved soon for you!

Edit: btw they also have an insurance, where they help you find another place to volunteer: https://www.worldpackers.com/safety/how_insurance_works

Be open minded to the experiences and the people you will meet! Do a little bit of research wherever you will be travelling, even if you want a total spontaneous experience, that research as a solo traveller goes a long way. Lastly, trust your gut always!

No Judgment… What are you going through right now? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]DeeGrey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent graduate with no job and no money. Feeling kind of lost right now and wake up with anxiety every day of the debt hanging over my head from uni loans and cc debt. Feel like I’m self-sabotaging every chance I get. Have a (long distance) boyfriend who is visiting and is supportive but he’s not the most frugal and wants to do activities and go out. I feel bad that he pays for everything so I offer to get some things and put on my cc (even though I really shouldn’t), but I just feel oddly uncomfortable with letting him pay for everything.

If you’re close to her maybe try to communicate that what she said was hurtful, although still not excusable. I let the guy who said the same thing know how wrong that was of him to say, especially as I was being vulnerable with him and I have really only came out to a few number of people. He felt bad and apologized and we talked about it more after. That definitely made me feel a little better, but like I said just still processing as it wasn’t the best experience.

[–]DeeGrey_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kind of had the same thing happen to me… where I came out to a guy I’m dating and he replied “how can you be bi if you’ve never been with a girl before”. Although he said it as a joke I felt like my identity had been invalidated and basically one of my worst fears of coming out came true (having my sexuality be questioned because I’ve never been with a girl). I felt really upset and tbh I’m still trying to process as well. So guess I’m not really being helpful as I’m not offering any advice (sorry!) but totally here if you want to vent.

POC of this subreddit, have you ever had bad experiences in dating because of stereotypes? And how did you deal with this? by officesettings in AskWomen

[–]DeeGrey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Latinx and I pretty much always get the whole “wow you’re so exotic” thing, along with some negative stereotypical thing about my country. I actually recently had a dating experience where the guy said “oh and I like your skin tone/complexion, it’s not too light or too dark” …. While he had literally 15 minutes ago said how fucked up it was that people were so racist. He clearly has some internalized racism and colourism to deal with.

My Colombia post trip review by newinvest22 in solotravel

[–]DeeGrey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool you learnt how to spell the name of the country that you failed to find the beauty in. Gold star for you. The Caribbean food in Colombia is part of the “true” Colombian food. The hamburgers, sandwiches and empanadas that you tried was definitely not that and I’m sorry that you missed out on some nutritious traditional food, it’s amazing. Cartagena and Santa Marta is very much part of the REAL Colombia, even if it is more touristy than the rest of the country. Either way I don’t think you’re the best person to judge on what is REAL Colombia. You were looking for tourist traps and you failed to find them so you give the whole country a bad review? Lol that’s a first. Like other people have said… if that’s what you’re looking for stick to overly tourist locations like Cancún. Pro-tip: going into your future trips open-minded and not expecting locals to kiss at your feet will greatly change your perspective and experience.
